Why would Smale Park need to be modified? The areas of Smale Park and The Banks that are currently flooded are areas that the planners knew would flood in these types of high river events, it seems to

.....and that ugly azz old Riverfront Stadium era retaining wall east of Roebling.  THAT looks discusting from the NKY!

Since it isn't used for anything worthwhile, perhaps they could expand north and west and find a good use for the white elephant known as Paul Brown Stadium. I'm thinking sand volley courts, lawn bowling, and a couple soccer fields.

Perpendicular to the river are section marks.  Parallel to the river is maybe the existing shoreline?  Looks like the photo was taken with high water.

It was at high(er) water look for the inundated Mike Fink landing...

If this premium spot gets a Cheesecake Factory, color me DISAPPOINTED.

I'll RIOT if it's even close to a Fridays, Applebees, or Olive Garden!

No worries....I heard it was going to be a Carraba's...JK!

lol ... there's no way this will happen.

maybe an old "french" restaurant that's mia...

Local presence...hmmm that really narrows it down doesn't it.

great. local presence = frisch's    LOL

Local presence = Jeff Ruby's to me.

Could also be Montgomery Inn, although highly unlikely with the boathouse not far away.

Would love if Boca opened a location there though.

As much as I despise the idea, a Cheesecake Factory would do amazing business there.

Larosas?

Christian Moerlein Ale Haus?

I really hope it's not another Jeff Ruby restaurant.  I'd much rather see something relatively affordable in the park.  Something that can handle a lot of business like a Skyline, Izzy's, Larosa's, etc would be great.  I hope that they leave the more expensive restaurants in The Banks proper.  Are these the two restaurants that are supposed to be in front of the Freedom Center?  I was unaware that there would be restaurants IN the park.

Christian Moerlein Ale Haus?

Oh man, if something like this was executed, I'd go crazy. Excellent idea!

I don't care to see another Jean Robert or Jeff Ruby's either. If they keep opening up restaurants, we're going to have another LaRosas on our hands.

Totally agree. Something like this that is both uniquely Cincinnati and welcoming to all (not too expensive) would be absolutely perfect.

I also vote for a Christian Moerlein Ale House!  Everything else will be a disappointment.

Seriously, let's let our voices be heard! Let's all bombard his inbox with emails and letters.

Can someone post email and physical addresses?

^

Trust me, Greg has some awesome things in store.  Don't know anything about this particular idea, but he'll do the city right.

if all goes according to plan, an announcement can be made within 45 to 60 days.

Bring it on!

Yeah, that is a good idea.

A Moerlein Ale House would have me visiting at least once a week.  It would be huge.

Now if only someone could find something to put in that Freedom Center that would actually attract as many visitors as a Moerlein House/Beer Garden would...

good PR

^Maybe a second "front door" lol.

How do we go about getting basketball courts on the riverfront?  Probably impossible, or unwanted by a lot, but I would love some courts down there.  Downtown cincy has no basketball courts anywhere.  Hopefully they have some kind of field for recreation such as football/ultimate frisbee, etc too.

absolutely... all your best beaches have the same...why not Cincys front door...

activity breeds activity

Why can't we get a designated swimming area in the Ohio River?

Look at how pure and clean the Ohio is!!! :D

I would guess liability reasons.  That current can get mean!!!!!

That's not a bad idea, but I could see it running into a political headwind due to the perceived issues that come along with basketball courts.

too much ballin and shot callin for those up tight folks.

That is what I figured might be a potential road block, but they really need something of the sorts down there.  Maybe they can at least put basketball courts somewhere else downtown, but it's hard to believe they don't have any (other than gym memberships).

I know this is completely out of the question, but it would be sweet if they put a artificial grass field somewhere down there that would allow people to play soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, etc.  The cost would probably be a lot more but they might make a decent chunk back on maintenance.  Plus it could be used year around regardless of weather.  Pipe dream, I know.

Not completely out of the question...you might find this interesting:

I think the county owns a very nice set of football fields that should be available to the taxpayer and they happen to be next to the Central Riverfront Park.

I've got to admit I'm surprised there isn't a nook somewhere in Sawyer Point for basketball, that seems like the most logical of the parks. While we're at it, didn't there used to be a rowing center below Montgomery Inn? That's something I always wanted to get into

Well why isn't it open to the public?

that's Laguna Beach in the second picture... the demographics there would make Indian Hills shiver...

The lower level, right? I thought that was more of an all-round fitness center. Is that were UC's rowing team practices.

I agree some basketball courts would be nice. If Sawyer Point can have tennis courts. A B-ball court or two could fit somewhere. How about the area near PBS where that cement/sand company is? I always thought that business was on borrowed time. Weren't condos consider there at one time.

As long as a deep water pool isn't built, I'm all for more rec. activities down by the river. Didn't Seinfeld play softball in Manhattan? ;-)

I've heard it'll cost $10 mil + to move the cement company. They've got a good business w/location and access to rail and water. But yeah, on any plan you see of the riverfront they've disappeared.

When are the restaurants going to be announced? Didn't it say in December that they would be announced in 40-60 days? I'm getting anxious!

The fitness center/rowing center under Montgomery Inn is a City of Cincinnati Recreation facility.  It was originally created as a privately held, though public rowing center and is still used as such.  The City took it over about 13 years ago, it is in fact open to the public and very inexpensive.

I've never seen it open, and the City of Cincinnati website says "The Rowing Center at Sawyer Point is closed to the general public. Any inquires about rowing tank rentals should be directed to Mandy Bello at 513-352-6184."
