February 5, 200916 yr too much ballin and shot callin for those up tight folks. I am afraid that you are right. They would never say it, but the powers that be probably think that basketball courts=gang violence. I used to live in St. Louis right next to their Central Park, which is about the same size as NYC's Central Park. It has everything. It contains the Zoo, Art Museum, History Museum, dozens of tennis courts, handball courts, 2 golf courses, several ponds with boat rental, bike trails, concert venue, soccer fields, baseball fields. But no basketball courts. Not hard to guess why. I think that it would be very interesting to see a baseball field integrated in the park. NY's Central Park and Chicago's parks near the lake both have a bunch of them and they are always busy in warm months.
February 6, 200916 yr heck the b-ball courts right by short vine used to be the spot a couple of years ago ha. but they cleaned it up pretty nice... cameras pointed right on the courts usually do the job
February 6, 200916 yr My sister is a teacher and her students took a fieldtrip to the Freedom Center and were awestruck by its location between the two stadia. I can't wait for this park to be there for everyone to enjoy. When will the first phase be completed?
February 6, 200916 yr I can't wait for this park to be there for everyone to enjoy. When will the first phase be completed? The first phase of the CRP should be completed right around the same time as the first phase of The Banks - late 2010, early 2011.
February 6, 200916 yr The public courts in Oakley always have pick up games going on. I've played there before but the games aren't too good. Being able to walk down to the riverfront park during lunch hour and play a game would be effing awesome.

The first phase of the CRP should be completed right around the same time as the first phase of The Banks - late 2010, early 2011. and if all goes according to plan QSC II should be topped out and the streetcar under construction

March 12, 200916 yr Money from the approved spending bill today (2nd highest amount of any local project)... $2,871,000 - Ohio Riverfront (Sens. George Voinovich and Brown; Reps. Schmidt and Steve Chabot). http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20090311/NEWS0108/903110314/
March 12, 200916 yr Anyone found out about that restaurant for the park yet? The one to be announced a month or whatever ago
March 12, 200916 yr ^No, and I sent an email to the Parks director about it. He told me that he would "keep me posted."
March 12, 200916 yr That bird is "hawking" him on defense and who is the douche bag playing with no sneakers?
March 22, 200916 yr That is an incredibly sad view of one of the important spots in Cincy. Does anyone know what the flood wall will be like? The picture kind of looks like a stepped design, like a flattened serpentine wall. Is that accurate?
March 23, 200916 yr ^yea and this is literally my first time seeing the spot up close. I feel sorry for the homeless there but damn, this was at Cincy's doorstep all of these years? jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh. I can't wait until they build the park.
March 24, 200916 yr Yeah that whole strip has been in quite a dismal state for some time now. If you've ever taken one of the water taxis from KY to a Bengals game, they drop you off right there. Trash, old broken concrete ramps, and old mattresses and tents were there the last time I did it. It was really depressing to see a group of people hiding under a makeshift tent and huddling around a small fire as everyone filed their way back to the boat.
April 1, 200916 yr It's been 117 days since Mr. Carden said that "if all goes according to plan, an announcement can be made within 45 to 60 days.". Ugh, the agony of waiting for news about our riverfront. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
April 2, 200916 yr During my lunch, I Walked around the "construction zone" that is our riverfront. Great weather! And sooo much activity going on at The Banks! Great to finally see progress being made! Snapped some photos with the iPhone, including the one seen below. Wanted to get some thoughts/opinions on how the Developers could incorporate the arched masonry pylon of the Roebling Suspension Bridge into the Central Riverfront Park. The South side is currently next to Mehring Way (photo taken from there) and the North side is next to a parking lot. Development plans call for Mehring Way to be moved to the North where the parking lot is. The area is not being used now, gated on both ends, and it's just dirt and trash on the inside. April 2, 200916 yr Random generic ideas, all with South facing fronts: Bike rental shop - might be plenty of enough room for storage there First Aid Center Snack Bar "Cool Zone" - like seen at Kings Island, etc "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
May 20, 200916 yr We are well into Spring and still no news on what two restaurants will be in the park. Not a good sign... "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
May 20, 200916 yr Technically they have as they've been installing the cast piles. We were supposed to have info on restaurant signings 3-4 months ago. I'm wondering if they had to restart their search... "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
May 27, 200916 yr Think the developed park will look better than this? LOL that's aweful...Cincinnati has an ugly riverfront. I'm glad this is changing.
May 27, 200916 yr Video with article link... Luncheon To Benefit Cincinnati Riverfront Park http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story/Luncheon-To-Benefit-Cincinnati-Riverfront-Park/Y1ML5Qwtfk6Xm0Lu6kCdzA.cspx Cincinnati's Riverfront Park is taking shape, and you can get an up close look Wednesday. A luncheon will update Tri-Staters about the project, while still raising money for it.
June 15, 200915 yr Ohio grant could aid first phase of Cincinnati Riverfront Park http://www.building-cincinnati.com/2009/06/ohio-grant-could-aid-first-phase-of.html Cincinnati City Council is considering an ordinance that would allow the City to apply for, accept, and appropriate a $2.97 million grant for the $36 million first phase of the 45-acre Cincinnati Riverfront Park.
June 15, 200915 yr A lot of folks have been asking about the restaurant. I read recently (can't remember where? perhaps on of the food blogs?) that a local restaurant group has the inside track on the deal. Can anyone confirm or deny this or have any speculation on what it could be?
June 15, 200915 yr and the foundation for the park has been completed. what does this mean? I haven't seen much going on down there.
June 15, 200915 yr ^ It means all the auger cast piles for Phase 1 have been drilled. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
June 23, 200915 yr $2.97M Cincinnati Riverfront Park grant application approved http://www.building-cincinnati.com/2009/06/297m-cincinnati-riverfront-park-grant.html Cincinnati City Council has passed unanimously an ordinance allowing the City to apply for a grant that could bring in an additional $2.97 million for the 45-acre, $100 million-plus Cincinnati Riverfront Park.
July 1, 200915 yr Cincinnati to enter agreement with Army Corps on riverfront park http://www.building-cincinnati.com/2009/07/cincinnati-to-enter-agreement-with-army.html Cincinnati City Council has approved an emergency ordinance allowing city manager Milton Dohoney Jr. to enter into a project partnership agreement (PPA) with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for construction of Cincinnati Riverfront Park. According to the ordinance language, the PPA is necessary in order "to foster a partnering strategy and a working relationship through a mutually developed formal strategy of commitment and communication as embodied within the PPA, which created an environment where trust and teamwork prevent disputes, foster a cooperative bond between the Corps and the City, and facilitates the successful implementation of the Project". Both parties entered into a similar agreement for the engineering and design of the park in June 2003. Under terms of the agreement, the City will be required to contribute 50 percent of the $30-$36 million cost of the park's first phase, which will include among its sources $7 million in capital improvement program project funds and the total combined value of City-owned land, easements, and rights-of-way in the project area. Groundbreaking was held in September for the first phase of Cincinnati Riverfront Park, which is expected to include a grand fountain and pools, a glass floor promenade with balconies, a new restaurant, shade trellises and play areas, a visitor's center and a public bike center.
July 29, 200915 yr Patience. Sitework and foundation work always takes the longest... Look how long it took for QCSII and The Banks to get up out of the ground. We've seen that once the construction gets above ground, it tends to proceed at a pretty good pace.
August 15, 200915 yr Very little progress. Oh well....patience. What kind of progress were you expecting to see?
September 3, 200915 yr Brewery planned for riverfront park By Laura Baverman • [email protected] • September 2, 2009 With glockenspiels, biergartens and a working microbrewery, the Moerlein Lager House could provide the first sign of life for the long-awaited Riverfront Park and Banks development. City Council approved today a preferred development agreement with Christian Moerlein Brewing Company for the construction of a 15,000-square-foot restaurant and brewery and expansive outdoor biergarten facing the Ohio River. Set to span the full block on Main Street between Mehring Way and Theodore M. Berry Way, the Lager House will sit at the edge of Riverfront Park where a garage for the The Banks project will be constructed. It will lie just 200 feet from the southwest corner of Great American Ball Park. September 3, 200915 yr While this is CERTAINLY good news, I just still can't seem to get pumped up about it like I should. I LOVE what Morlein is trying to do, but why try to recreate OTR? It still exists....well half of it is left at least. All this investment $$ could have gone a long way towards making a better OTR, instead of trying to create a new neighborhood. We keep trying to build a new fake recreation oc Cincinnati, while the real authentic Cincinnati crumbles.

We keep trying to build a new fake recreation oc Cincinnati, while the real authentic Cincinnati crumbles. Its a good way to market your brand to a lot of out of towners who just won't venture into OTR. Especially those in town for sporting events and concerts. I'm all about a re-vitalized and authentic OTR but from a business point of view, this makes sense. Baby steps. OTR offers a character and charm that the Banks will never be able to replicate and enough peope know that. It is just going to take time (and a streetcar!) Believe me, I fully understand why they are doing it where they are. Doesn't stop my lament over the dreadfully slow pace in OTR. Some of us have been watching OTR for many, many DECADES. I understand baby steps. I just wish we were already running.
September 3, 200915 yr Morlein is a CINCINNATI beer, not an OTR-only beer. In my opinion, they can put the brewery anywhere they please downtown. It's about bringing people together, not creating 2 OTR's. It should be fantastic when finished:)
September 3, 200915 yr This has been posted in three places, so please direct any future comments on the brewery at The Banks to the Cincinnati: Beer/Brewing News That's a great discussion over there and all, but with this being built in the Central Riverfront Park and affecting it's overall design, this would be the more appropriate place for updates on approval/designs/construction news. IMO... "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
September 5, 200915 yr If Oktoberfest is eventually moved to the CRP as has been suggested in the past, then you would have a two-week festival and the largest Oktoberfest celebration in the world outside of Munich right there next to Cincinnati's historic German beer brand. Makes perfect sense to me...there are still great opportunities for Moerlein in OTR (stay tuned).
