Posted November 12, 200717 yr I will be using Amtrak for the first time this week; I'm taking the Lake Shore Limited out of Cleveland this coming thursday morning to Boston. I'll be returning the following thursday morning. Can I leave my Jeep at the station the entire time I'm gone? The Amtrak System timetable I have says that short-term parking is available at the Cleveland station for free but overnight parking isn't (huh?). I would take the rapid, but we're not supposed to get back into Cleveland until 3am on T-giving day. I really don't want to wait around the station for a couple hours with the fiance that morning waiting for the rapid to start running. KJP or any other amtrak veterans with info would be greatly appreciated!
November 12, 200717 yr It has been about 5 years since I rode Amtrak out of Cleveland. I always used to park my car there long term and it was never an issue. I still see cars there during the day, so people are parking long term anyway. They also close the gate when the station isn't open. I doubt that Amtrak personnel enforce long term/short term parking there. I once saw the same broken down car with a front wheel jacked up (no tire) parked in the same spot there for nearly a year. Your train will likely be on time on the return trip. The freights tend not run many trains on holidays.
November 12, 200717 yr I think the Amtrak website must be referring to the "pay" parking garage just East of the station. It's not far from the station if you're not lugging a lot of bags. What about a taxi on the return trip?
