In all my years in Cleveland, I've never been to the Shaker Lakes Nature Center so we figured what the heck. Glad we made the trip - and I loved the mural in the lobby describing how Al Porter (I'd be happy to spit on his grave, and I say that about very few people) wanted to plow this (and 400 homes in the area - see above) all over for a freeway:

THAT'S why I moved back to Cleveland! 

 

I went on a nice 7-mile run last night and boy was the Theater District hopping!  The flashing marquees, saxophonists, packed restaurants, PEOPLE, made the area feel like a 'big' city!! It was cool.  Also, CSU is beginning to look/feel like a real college!  And this is just the beginning!

Well, to be honest I haven't seen too much of Cleveland.  I've only been here once, and in most of the pohto threads here I see mostly downtown and mostly the skyscrapers.  While those are nice, they don't really show the true character of the city, imo. I've seen pictures of Tremont, and a little bit of Ohio City, but none of those really show what I think Mayday showed beautifully in this set.  The pictures of Cedar-Square, Shaker Square, Belgian Village, and some of the more industrial shots show areas that I had never seen before and that I really like.  Kudos Mayday!

Dammit... I've been in a vintage mood lately and saw the title of your thread and got all tickally excited thinking that it was some old fall pics of Cleveland in the 1970's.  Oh, well, I guess these beautiful pics of the modern day Cleve will have to do.

 

Time to head back, one of my favorite views on Cedar Road:

 

^ By far one of my favorite views as well.  I love coming in from Legacy Village on Cedar and how you can start to see Key peeking over the horizon; as you get further down on Cedar, Terminal and BP start to pop up.  It's one of the only roads I know of where you can follow the skyline from such a far distance out all that way into the city.

Sorry for sounding so negative in this thread--I think Cleve has some cool neighborhoods but thats hilarious. There has to be much better views of the skyline in Cleveland.

^ I get it. When I was little growing up in Cuyahoga Falls, I used to ride my bike to this one spot in a neighborhood right on the edge of the Cuyahoga Valley, and I could see the Akron skyline in the distance, and it used to just get me so excited. Skylines have always been so interesting to me, just imagining the excitement that goes on on the streets and such.

Of course. Skylines pretty much represent the economic power of a city. It's what gives a city a huge "presence" but I think the more you learn about cities, the more you realize tall skyscrapers are irrelevant and more of a novelty item :)

 

I remember driving to Miami when I was 16 and thinking "wow,there are so many skyscrapers; this is a big bustling city". Driving down 95 is a pretty cool experience in general. But then you learn about how they're struggling to be occupied. That has little to do with Cleveland...I was just saying..

^ I never said it was the best view of the Cleveland skyline; I can think of many, many better views than that.  What I love the view is how the buildings begin the rise over the horizon from a distance, that's what I like about seeing the skyline from the vantage point.  It's no where near the best view of the city, but it's still pretty cool IMO.
