Just a couple miles NW of Oxford sits College Corner, Ohio. It was named as such because it was in the corner of College Twp, what would later become Oxford Twp. surrounding the City of Oxford and Miami University. The small village overlaps Butler and Preble Counties in Ohio and the small business district actually sits on Indiana/Ohio border. While one community, the Indiana section is legally a separate entity--West College Corner.

While you may not have an idea what county or state you are in, College Corner is still a pleasant little town. When Oxford was dry, it was where Miami students used to drive to get their boose. :drunk:

We'll start with the Indiana side...

I seem to remember seeing some video piece on this town a while back and it showed a much more cohesive and nice business district that truly straddled the state line.  Are these pictures the whole town/business district? Or could there maybe be another town with this set up?

Must be another town; this is all there is to College Corner.

Cute town. Some of the commercial structures look fairly well preserved.

Maybe you're thinking of Union City? It's been many years since I've been there, but I remember it as a larger community with more commercial buildings.

I remember reading in a Dispatch article that the half-court line in the elementary school ran along the state border so as the kids would play basketball they would be moving back and forth between Ohio and Indiana (and time zones).  The Dispatch had a picture of the school which has two entrances; over one entrance it said "INDIANA" and over the other it said "OHIO".  College Corner was even more interesting when Indiana didn't use DST.  If someone wanted to meet with friends or whomever they would have to add a qualifier to the time they wanted to meet:  e.g. Let's have dinner at 6:00 - Ohio Time or 7:00 - "Slow Time" (as they would call Indiana Time).

Huh.

perhaps he is, but UC's "bussiness district" is almost entirely on the Indiana side a block from State Line street (on Columbia Ave). Union City is much larger than this town, though.

Ugh.  I don't really care for College Corner.

Well, it is no Nelsonville, I'll give you that.

As Ink mentioned in his introduction, during my days in Oxford the only reason you went to College Corner was to buy booze.

Hmmm...interesting:

No it isn't, because Nelsonville actually has a college!
