If you enjoy your personal rights, stay the hell out of Union Township!

For those that don't know, Union Twp is near Cincinnati...

I lost my phone and a Hamilton County Sheriff found it at the Shell station in Clifton. He contacted someone on my contact list and I called him back and arranged to meet him in Anderson by the Beechmont Mall which is the area he patrols. Once I got off the Beechmont exit, I turned around and  pulled out of a private driveway into traffic and the car behind me had to slow down (because HE was speeding). A Union Township police officer started following me and finally put his lights on after about half a mile. He pulled me over, explained that I failed to yield when I should have, which I have no problem with--I should have yielded. Then he asked me to get my proof of insurance, so I reached in my glove compartment. I had a few papers on my passenger seat so I stuck those in my glove compartment as I tend to be a neat freak. He then asked me where the box was that was sitting on my passenger seat. I said I don't know what you're talking about; there was no box on my seat. He said yes there was, I must have hid it when he wasn't looking. He told me to step out of the car, where he patted me down and claimed he felt something in front of my pants, so his partner handed him rubber gloves and he did a more thorough search. He was being very hostile with me asking me what was in my pants and I said "Sir I have nothing on me". After he realized I had nothing on me but my wallet, he searched my car, went through my glove compartment and found a small flat piece of cardboard which he said he thought was a "box". I told him that piece of cardboard had the contact info for the Sheriff who I was suppose to meet up with to reclaim my phone. He told me to get back into my car, then he went back to his car, and wrote a warning citation for failure to yield.

I met up with the Sheriffs who had my phone and told them about the former incident and they said everything those officers did was illegal. They did not have probable cause to search me or my vehicle. I asked them if there's anything I can do about it and they said the best thing I can do is stay out of Union Township because If I report them or file a lawsuit, they will come after ME. The whole thing was ridiculous!

Apparently Union twp is notorious for that. There's too many cases like these where people in power think that the ends justifies the means, except that too often, there is no reasonable moral basis.

I guess no one cares about the corruption in our executive branch but I will not be silent!!

Probably a good thing they didn't catch you with dozens of photos of buildings and infrastructure on your digital camera. You'd be on your way to Guantanamo by now.

^ Rob, people have been harassed and their cameras stolen for taking photos of buildings, subways and bridges in NYC. I don't think Gitmo is too far fetched anymore :(

Re: David

Welcome to the fascist pigs that unfortunately have the authority in some jurisdictions. It's also why I carry a voice recorder and stash it in a hidden stow-away in my SUV (due to one incident that has long since been resolved). Now you know why cops rank as some of the most untrustworthy employers.

I once had a police officer who was asking me a few questions ask me why I was acting nervous.  This is why.  I wasn't acting.

I know. I didn't intend for my remark to sound sarcastic. I've had my own encounters with city cops, transit cops and security guards, and some of those guys are pretty menacing and gung-ho.

The two worst bullies from my high school during the time I attended went on to become cops. With their juvenile records, I don't know how they ever made the force, but as cops they were heavy-handed thugs. One, while working a second job as a security guard at an industry, got ambushed at night in a parking lot and beaten to death with a jack handle. They never did find out who killed him.

What I don't understand is that I would never be subjected to such a search or treated in a hostile way in any other situation than while I'm sitting in a car. A police officer almost never has a reason to search a pedestrian, but if you're sitting in a car and don't use your turn signal, you must have concealed weapons, open alcohol containers or maybe you're smuggling drugs--if the officer has nothing better to do. They're required to tell you your rights as they're arresting you but they are not required to tell you your rights as they pertain to search and seizure. In my case, he didn't even ask me if he could, he just did it.

You guys should read up on Steubenville, Ohio. I wrote a short blurb on it for Wikipedia, but the amount of corruption there is just astounding.

This calls for Internet karoake:

The year is '94 and in my trunk is raw

In my rear view mirror is the mother fucking law

I got two choices yall pull over the car or

bounce on the double put the pedal to the floor

Now I ain't trying to see no highway chase with jake

Plus I got a few dollars I can fight the case

So I...pull over to the side of the road

And I heard "Son do you know why I'm stopping you for?"

Cause I'm young and I'm black and my hats real low

Do I look like a mind reader sir, I don't know

Am I under arrest or should I guess some mo?

"Well you was doing fifty five in a fifty four"

"License and registration and step out of the car"

"Are you carrying a weapon on you I know alot of you are"

I ain't stepping out of shit all my papers legit

"Do you mind if I look round the car a little bit?"

Well my glove compartment is locked so is the trunk and the back

And I know my rights so you gon' need a warrent for that

"Aren't you sharp as a tack are some type of lawyer or something?"

"Or somebody important or something?"

Nah I ain't pass the bar but I know a little bit

Enough that you won't illegally search my shit

Hmm, the cops in Union Township must have been bored or something.  I better not go there because Hayward yields for no one when pulling out of driveways!

First thing I thought of in this thread was 99 problems.  Nicely done, Jamiec

We'll see how smart you are when the K9 comes...

I don't know what they take me as/

Or understand the intelligence that David has

Sounds like Union Twp is getting as bad as Crawford County.

Yeah, I know the type - loud as a motorbike, but couldn't bust a grape in a food fight...

You can't bust grapes with cops who don't even have the sense to trick you into giving up your rights--instead they just jump in your car while you're outside of it. Besides, tasers and guns are much more effective than grapes. People think you can end gov't corruption peacefully but you have to ask yourself, who has the guns. That goes for all levels of gov't.

Sorry, I was just trying to throw another funny quote out from 99 Problems...wasn't trying to say you should have jumped a cop or something...

Ah, I didnt remember that line; I thought you were just busting my balls. After the officer searched me he said "I must just be seeing things" to the other officer. When he was inside my car and found the piece of cardboard he said "I must have been seeing things". My license said Warner St. Cincinnati and I happend to be driving through the border of Union Twp--that was his unspoken probable cause.

You're from the hood, stupid - what type of facts are those?

LMAO
