What's prompted your nominating another moderator? Do you feel that the current mods aren't doing their job? I'm not asking to be combative, it's just that I haven't heard too many complaints about our current mod roster.

It is not a complaint at all.  The current mod roster seems to be doing well, but as unclerando takes over the role of  posting 75% of the news stories for SW ohio that grasscat used to fill, I think if he were a moderator, he would be able to do so more effectively

The problem with adding new mods is that if Cincinnati gets an extra mod, then Columbus and Cleveland would need mods too.  Plus, while UncleRando is a valued forumer (thank God), there are other valued forumers equally deserving of "mod" status (Inkaelin, KJP, mrnyc, X, Cincinnatius, etc.).  So really, I can't play favorites right now because that just doesn't seem right but really, UncleRando is already a mod by pointing out various things in various threads for mods to clean up. 

I do think this is a good idea so that when the time comes to add additional mods, we have a good feel for who might be a good fit. :-)

Well, let's say there are more Cincinnati mods than Cleveland mods.  There is going to be more sway towards Cincinnati topics and perhaps going "harder" at Cleveland/Columbus forumers.  Keeping it equal gives all three major population centers (Central, SW, and NE) equal sway (sorta).

You could call him a Daytonati mod. ;)

I think UncleRando does fine enough without being a mod. If he gets full mod powers, all the other mods will be out of a job.

BTW, I don't feel like I should vote on this...thomasbw could you just send me a PM with the poll results once this is all done.  I am curious as to what people think (aside from the 2 that have me ignored).

how about this, whenever new mods are needed, a class of four (cin cle col + balance) is added and we re title the thread to nominate four mods instead of just rando?

I would call it democracy, or at least a poll of the forumers.  It doesn't have to be binding, but I would imagine the majority of those who regularly visit the forum would agree with the existing moderators on who should ascend.

I know it's been said before but you guys really do a good job of keeping this forum clean. I know that I personally have gone off topic or posted something in the wrong section on accident but it always get corrected (and fast). It's funny, I heard someone in my college bring up UrbanOhio and praise UrbanOhio for being well moderated and they didn't even know I post here frequently. No doubt it's the reason why this site is gaining so much popularity.

 

^It helps that all the mods and admin were on previous urban-related boards (SSC, SSP, etc) and have seen trolls and sh!t go down enough to know how to prevent it before it occurs.
