Posted December 8, 200717 yr Hello, I have started a website in conjunction with my Master's Degree final project: www.oldohioschools.com I am looking for pictures and information for old schools in Ohio built from the late 1800s through the 1950s. I have established the following categories: Abandoned-- schools buildings standing empty and not used for any purpose Retired-- former school buildings that have been converted into a new use Gone-- school buildings which have been razed Endangered-- school buildings which are slated for closure or demolition in the near future Functional-- schools in continual use today Please visit my site and contact me if you would like to see any schools in your area added. ** Please note I am not documenting one room schools or wooden frame structures as part of my project.** Thank you for any help you can offer! December 11, 200717 yr here's a demolished school worden elementary in wickliffe, closed in 1982, demolished in 2007 (i think?) It is the site of the new Wickliffe Community Center (whatever that entails). SORRY THIS PIC IS HORRIBLE, I JUST FOUND IT. here it is under demolition Worden had a very strange design. The classrooms in the front facing Worden Rd were all pentagons. The facade was jagged. Here's a crude representation: ______________ | | | | | | | | | \ /\ / \ / \ / \ / \ / ...and so on The other former elementary school in Wickliffe, Mapledale, is also demolished. In its place will be an "active adult community."
December 11, 200717 yr Here's a few from the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City school district. The link I got these from is: http://www.chhistory.org/PhotographExhibit.php You may also want to search for the Superior School House, which was the first Cleveland Hts. School built and it was built sometime in the 1800s. This first one is from Cleveland Heights High School (Heights) shortly after it was completed.(Before science wing, S. Gym, S. pool) (Functional) This is a picture of Noble Elementary School on Ardoon in Cleveland Hts., though the website says Boulevard school. (Functional) The last is a picture of the original Roxboro Elementary or Middle School. It was demolished.
December 11, 200717 yr St. Ignatius in Cleveland was founded in 1886. I believe that the current building was built around 1890. www.ignatius.edu
December 11, 200717 yr I know of 2 recently abandoned elementary schools in the school district where my parents live. A new school was built and the 2 were combined into a new building. Both probably date back to the late 1800's. They are Canal Fulton Elementary and Clinton Elementary in the Northwest Local School District stradling NW Stark and SW Summit counties. I'll try to get some pics over the holidays.
December 11, 200717 yr The Old Deaf School downtown which was brought down by arson (according to police) when it was going to be converted to alternative use(s) should be up there. It's the one on the top, the bottom one still stands. If the state had their way, it would have been razed for a parking lot with no topiary park in it's place.
December 11, 200717 yr In Cleveland's Little Italy, both the old high school (Murray Hill high school) and the elementary school (can't remember the name of the top of my head) have been converted -- residental and studios/shops respectively. IM me if you'd need photos.
