Me too.  There is always a need for more sheets of ice across the city.  Especially in that part of the city. 

 

The article mentions Reynoldsburg High School will add a varsity hockey team too which is a good thing for the area.  It will give schools like Upper Arlington another local team to play.

Columbus-based Trivium Development is in talks with the city to acquire land at 7332 E. Main St., the site of the former Happy Dragon Restaurant.

Demolition of the Kmart building began in late August.  According to the below report on the demolition ceremony, once the site work is completed, construction is expected to begin in 2022, with potential occupancy in late 2023 or early 2024:

Its interesting.  The old K-Mart building on Stringtown is being redeveloped right now too.  If I'm not mistaken, these were the last two old K-Mart buildings left in Franklin County?

For a little while but whatever it was closed. Maybe the tire store is still operating in the auto center.

 

Don't forget about the South Side KMart. About 10,000sqft of it has been repurposed but the rest remains empty.

Columbus (and the whole metro) had a ridiculous amount of K-Marts. I'm going to say there were more K-Marts in the metro in 1990 than there are Wal-Marts today.

Daimler eyes land purchase for medical complex in Reynoldsburg

“A partner in a project to bring a new multimillion-dollar youth athletics facility to Reynoldsburg wants to purchase at least 5.5 acres from the city to build a medical complex at East Main and Hanson streets.

 

The 50,000-square-foot, two- to three-story medical facility would be on the same site where the Center Ice Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, intends to build a $20 million complex with two indoor ice rinks, a field house, a hotel and restaurants.
 

Shook said the city “could not disclose, at this time” the user of the proposed medical facility, but he said, “It is a reputable user.”


Mayor Joe Begeny said the Daimler Group wants to break ground in early 2023 and open the medical complex in late spring or early summer 2024.”

Looks like we could be getting some renderings soon for the old Kmart site on Brice Rd in Reynoldsburg:

 

"What the new Reynoldsburg home of the Christian Missionary Alliance family of churches will look like should be revealed at the city planning commission meeting Nov. 3, Mayor Joe Begeny said.

 

The former Kmart at Main Street and Brice Road was demolished last August to make way for a mixed-use development, anchored by the Alliance’s national headquarters.

 

“They’re going to show all the pictures — what the building looks like and what the design is,” Begeny said. “But it won’t be an official submission to the commission until December. They want to get an idea of does the commission see any additional changes in the pictures or any potential problems or issues.”

 

When the $200 million plan was announced in April 2021, former Reynoldsburg development director Andrew Bowsher envisioned the development as a mix of retail, restaurants, a hotel, an event center, green space and apartments — something that will draw people to Reynoldsburg in the way that Bridge Park and Grandview Yard bring people to Dublin and Grandview Heights, respectively.

 

The buildout could take five to 10 years, officials have said."

Major site plan OK’d for Alliance project in Reynoldsburg

 

"A unanimous vote Jan. 5 by the city’s planning and zoning board approved a major site plan for the group’s new national headquarters, the 130,000-square-foot One Alliance Place.

 

The $200 million plan for the former Kmart site at Main Street and Brice Road was announced in February 2021.

 

Stumbo did not indicate when construction might begin on the project’s first phase, which includes the headquarters with office, event and retail space; a three-level parking garage with more than 600 spaces; and a plaza area.

 

The plaza area, which will be on the east side of the headquarters, will include space for “outdoor performances and informal meetings". One Alliance Place has room for nine retailers, including a coffee shop.

Central Ohio Primary Care to construct $19 million medical campus in Reynoldsburg

“A physician-owned primary care group is getting ready to break ground on what will become its second-largest medical campus in the Columbus area. 

 

Central Ohio Primary Care is set to construct a $19 million building at 8050 E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg. The nearly 62,000-square-foot facility is being built by the Daimler Group on 5 acres of green space near Glen Rest Memorial Estate cemetery.

 

COPC Chief Operating Officer Mike Ashanin said the group identified Reynoldsburg as the ideal location for this significant investment, which is slightly smaller than the company's largest 66,000-square-foot facility at 625 Africa Road in Westerville. 
 

COPC is bringing seven of its existing practices in the Reynoldsburg area to the new location, which will employ about 250 people. Most will be existing employees, but Ashanin said they plan to create new jobs at the campus as well. In total, COPC employs over 2,200 people across more than 90 practices in Central Ohio.”

“A $28 million apartment and townhome complex is slated for construction near downtown Reynoldsburg. 

 

Purpose Companies, a small, minority-owned development and investment firm based in Columbus, plans to transform 7 acres of land at 1122 Lancaster Ave. into a new residential area.

 

The complex called The Oliver will include 126 apartment flats and 24 townhomes. The apartments will be split among seven buildings in the center of the development, and the townhomes will be constructed along the perimeter of the property, which abuts Lancaster Avenue.
 

Oliver said the site is "shovel ready" and all that's left to do is to secure building permits. Site work will begin this summer with a goal of opening to residents by the second quarter of 2025.“

Reynoldsburg Kmart Site One Piece of Larger Redevelopment

The redevelopment of a former Kmart location in Reynoldsburg is being surrounded by a much larger endeavor that will give the area a much-needed facelift.  

 

The former site of the big-box store, located at the southeast corner of Brice Road and East Main Street,  will soon rise up as a new, 14-acre mixed-use development. 

 

From Big Box to Big Development

 

The Kmart itself, located at 1284 Brice Rd., was demolished on August 28, 2021. The site is now in the engineering review phase, which means the design of the structure is nearing completion. Ground is slated to be broken on June 16, 2023. 

 

Leading the Kmart site project is the Christian and Missionary Alliance, a religious organization that formerly called Colorado home. They have 23,000 churches worldwide, including 2,000 in the U.S.

 

The Alliance relocated to Reynoldsburg from Colorado Springs, Colorado, in late 2021 through early 2022. Only a few remote staff members remain in the Centennial State. The organization’s leaders are also acting as master developers for the entire project, known as “One Alliance Place.”

Last night, I saw that the old Kroger on Main St was being demolished. It's been years since I've heard about any redevelopment of that site, and wonder if anyone here has heard anything? Last I had heard, it was owned by a partnership with connections to Bill Schottenstein, so I don't have high hopes for anything positive happening there.

Central Ohio Primary Care is set to construct a $19 million building at 8050 E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg. The nearly 62,000-square-foot facility is being built by the Daimler Group on 5 acres of green space near Glen Rest Memorial Estate cemetery.

 

COPC Chief Operating Officer Mike Ashanin said the group identified Reynoldsburg as the ideal location for this significant investment, which is slightly smaller than the company's largest 66,000-square-foot facility at 625 Africa Road in Westerville. 
 

COPC is bringing seven of its existing practices in the Reynoldsburg area to the new location, which will employ about 250 people. Most will be existing employees, but Ashanin said they plan to create new jobs at the campus as well. In total, COPC employs over 2,200 people across more than 90 practices in Central Ohio.”

It's been a long time since somebody posted pictures like these from Reynoldsburg! 😀 That medical center certainly looks taller and more of a presence than the rendering suggests.

There's a lot going on along the E Main corridor for sure.

There was probably five or more other projects that I just didn't have time to hit.

 

I did notice that dirt's moving at the Wilson Ridge Townhome site on Waggoner Rd near E Main now as well.

Christian and Missionary Alliance moves forward with phase one of Alliance Place mixed-use development in Reynoldsburg
 

“The Christian and Missionary Alliance is moving forward with the first phase of its massive development in Reynoldsburg. 

 

The religious group has announced a groundbreaking date for Alliance Place, a mixed-use project that is being constructed on 14 acres at the former Kmart site at the southeast corner of East Main Street and Brice Road. The ceremony will be held on June 16, and will include remarks from Alliance President John Stumbo, Reynoldsburg Mayor Joe Begeny and civic leaders.

 

Phase one of the future Alliance Place development includes the construction of anchor building One Alliance Place and a three-story parking garage, along with site work such as utility tie-ins, entrance streets and surface parking.

 

In addition to providing office space for the Alliance National Office staff, the four-story, 130,000 square-foot One Alliance Place building will house a 500-seat event center, meeting rooms, a coffee shop, inline retail spaces, additional leasable office space, and an active public plaza green space to serve the greater Reynoldsburg community.”

New park coming to Brice Road

 

"Two million dollars is headed from Columbus to Reynoldsburg to build a park on Brice Road.

 

During its meeting Monday, Columbus City Council approved the funding and the partnership with Reynoldsburg to build the park, just one of the big additions coming to the area.

 

The land technically falls under Reynoldsburg’s jurisdiction but is owned by Columbus.

 

The approved partnership is going to be a 10-year deal between the two cities with Reynoldsburg being responsible for maintenance.

 

The park will be a passive park, meaning it will have walking trails and a bike path, but not a soccer field or dog park, and now that it has been approved, planning can start.

 

Reynoldsburg hopes to break ground this July and have the park open by spring 2024."

CBF had a small update on Eastwood today...

 

Reynoldsburg's $170M Eastwood project to bring more than 600 residential units, 14 acres of commercial space to city's east side

 

"Construction has started at Reynoldsburg's Eastwood development, which will eventually include more than 600 residential units and 14 acres of commercial space on the city's east side.

 

The $170 million project — located between East Main Street and Summit Road — has completed the bulk of underground utility work and is getting started on roadway paving this week.

 

Once the infrastructure is in place, Ciminello said vertical construction will begin on two multifamily developments encompassing the majority of the residential portion of the project. Those developments — the Residences at Eastwood and Thorton Hall — will have a combined 423 units when completed."

 

Ciminello said he's working hand-in-hand with Reynoldsburg officials to create a development that serves an entry point into the city.

"We want to create a gateway from the east into Reynoldsburg."

We took Main to Mink today on our way to Intel so we could check some of the projects along the E Main St corridor.

 

One I was especially interested to see was the Eastwood development and I was kind of surprised how far along it is.

 

I was out there a few months ago and they hadn't started vertical construction yet. (I attached a few pics above of what it looked like then)

Silt fence up at Main and Hanson where a fieldhouse and more sheets of ice are planned.  Hopefully we'll see construction on the new facility start soon.
