April 3, 20241 yr Quick look at the first buildings rising at the Wilson Ridge project on Waggoner Road
April 3, 20241 yr Had a chance to check out the Eastwood project at E Main and Summit Rd yesterday as well. The focus seems to be mainly on the residential portion, with some infrastructure projects across the site still finishing up. The main part of the development was blocked off yesterday so I just snatched a few quick ones from the main entrance area.
April 5, 20241 yr Sheetz previously announced plans to open another location at E Main and Taylor Rd- but the request to rezone the property was denied in late 2022. Apparently, it has since been approved as construction is now underway on the southeast corner of Main and Taylor

June 12, 20241 yr 100 affordable housing units proposed for Reynoldsburg with shops, rooftop recreation "Mayor Joe Begeny is announcing the proposal of selling city land to the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority to build 100 new affordable housing units along East Main Street at Monday's City Council meeting. Mayor Begeny said the city bought the lot across the street from City Hall back in 2021 for $2 million. City leaders demolished a PNC Bank on the site. He's now proposing to sell to CMHA for $1,500,000 to break ground on the $30 million project. The complex is proposed to be four stories with retail on the ground floor and recreation on the rooftop. The median income of those who could qualify are those who make $40,000 a year. If City Council approves the land sale, CMHA could break ground in early 2025." https://abc6onyourside.com/news/local/100-affordable-housing-units-proposed-for-reynoldsburg-with-shops-rooftop-recreation

I think it’s so dumb how so many of them just don’t offer anything for people living there. by adding retail it can give some of the residents a shot at a job close or even an opportunity to open in the retail.
July 1, 2024Jul 1 Reynoldsburg property planned for $31M mixed-use redevelopment The Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority seeks to acquire a downtown Reynoldsburg property for a $31 million mixed-use development. A purchase option agreement for the site is set for a third and final reading at the Reynoldsburg City Council meeting on July 8. If approved, CMHA would have the option to acquire the city-owned property for $1.5 million. The vacant land, located next to the Reynoldsburg Community Center YMCA at the southeast corner of East Main Street and Davidson Drive, formerly housed a PNC Bank building and became available when the company did not renew its lease. The city acquired the site for $2 million and demolished the bank in the hopes of enticing a developer to build on it, Reynoldsburg Mayor Joe Begeny said. July 18, 2024Jul 18 Mixed-use project in downtown Reynoldsburg garners sale and financing approvals A downtown Reynoldsburg project appears to be moving forward after the city approved the sale of the property to the developer, whose board authorized financing for the mixed-use development. Located at 7221 E. Main St., the $31 million project involves the construction of a four-story building with 77,000 square feet of residential space on the upper levels and 8,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor. The housing component includes 100 mixed-income units. Reynoldsburg City Council voted 6-2 to approve a purchase option agreement with the developer, the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority. CMHA now has the option to acquire the city-owned property for $1.5 million, which it seems poised to do after the company's board of commissioners approved a $25 million investment for the project this week. September 22, 2024Sep 22 As some suburbs of Columbus ban marijuana businesses, Reynoldsburg aims to welcome dispensary "The city's planning and zoning board approved a conditional use and variance earlier this month for Certified Cultivators to operate a marijuana dispensary at 7365-7369 E. Livingston Ave. Reynoldsburg Mayor Joe Begeny said city residents have been asking for a dispensary for years. He said there wasn't an opportunity for a medical dispensary, based on the limited number of licenses available. But when the city redid its zoning code in 2020, it allowed for medical marijuana dispensaries. Ahead of the Ohio Issue 2 vote in November, the city preemptively updated the code to allow for adult-use dispensaries. Reynoldsburg's zoning code states that marijuana businesses are not allowed within 500 feet of another marijuana facility or within 500 feet of a park, residential district or school. The state prohibits dispensaries from being located within 500 feet of a school, church, public library, public playground or public park. Because of those regulations, Begeny said city officials believe this will likely be the only dispensary in the city. However, he added city officials believe another dispensary will be located just outside the city, on the Columbus part of Main Street." https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2024/09/22/reynoldsburg-aims-to-welcome-marijuana-dispensary/75211590007/
November 4, 2024Nov 4 Here are the new mixed-use developments underway in Reynoldsburg A bevy of mixed-use developments are underway in Reynoldsburg. The city is gaining new space for retailers and restaurants, an influx of housing units, a sports complex and the headquarters of an international religious organization that is redeveloping the site of a former big-box store. Here's a roundup of what's coming. Alliance Place The Alliance Place project, led by the Christian and Missionary Alliance, is expected to begin vertical construction in the summer. The development's first phase initially was to be completed in early 2025, but plans have changed because the cost to build has risen since the religious group first announced its intentions for the former Kmart site on the corner of East Main Street and Brice Road, Reynoldsburg Mayor Joe Begeny said. Phase one originally was set to include an anchor building – dubbed One Alliance Place – with office space for the alliance's staff, a 500-seat event center, meeting rooms, a coffee shop, inline retail spaces, additional leasable office space and green space. A three-story parking garage was featured in the initial phase as well. Outparcel restaurants, a hotel and multifamily housing were eyed for future phases. The city really would have benefited from a complete redevelopment of this intersection, and still sorely needs that to happen. Yea, these type of hotels are often not for "tourists" in the typical use of the word. I've traveled a decent amount for work and I have often stayed in non-glamorous parts of cities just like the 256/70 area to be close to my destination. You would be surprised at how full most hotels are on any given night. Some people are on a long road trip and need to stop over night. Some people are in town to visit family. Some people are having work done on their house or are in between houses. Some people are in the area for work (restaurants and retailers drive a lot of this in suburban shopping areas like 256). There are a whole host of reasons why people stay in these type of hotels.
January 27Jan 27 Anybody here remember the 10-15 story hotel built at the SW corner of I-70 and 256 that never opened? It stood until 1986-1988. It had tape on the windows in the shape of the letter X to keep them from breaking.

Just to clarify, I don't have an issue with getting another hotel in the area, and would be glad to give visiting relatives more options. I was just critiquing the placement of it back-to-back-to-back. I would say the same thing if it was 4 gas stations or 4 pizza shops in a row. It's me nitpicking.
