December 17, 200717 yr Gotta love the scale and landscaping in German Village. Everyone takes a lot of pride in little yards they do have. Wasn't German Village really ghetto in the '60s-70s? When did they start gentrifying it? Was it the 70s or 80s? You can tell its been a while. The housing stock is really small so you get a lot of single people. People in German Village are really friendly and they actually use Schiller Park a lot!! Damn that park is used a lot...
December 17, 200717 yr German Village started to become "gentrified" in the 60's. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

People in German Village are really friendly and they actually use Schiller Park a lot!! Damn that park is used a lot... As already said German Village was one of the first areas nationally and in the state to start to gentrify. However, those houses do not house many "singles" these days. There are a lot of older couples, gay couples, young couples, people rooming with each other etc.. Prices in German Village are not your "starter home" market. Merion Village (just south of German Village) was more blue collar until recently and is now in its early stages of still having semi-affordable housing (for a nice neighborhood near downtown Columbus). German Village, also, has little rental space. Most of that is now in the Brewery District (in infill buildings) which is located across High St. from German Village. Also, a lot of rentals use to be around the Short North, but now the Short North is seeing most of its rentals turned into condos or back to single family houses. There is a real lack of "rentals" in okay/nice neighborhoods around and in downtown right now.
December 17, 200717 yr Very nice Randy! I want to go up there and visit German Village next time with my parents. They hadn't heard of North Market or anything, so I was going to do a whirlwind tour. Want rentals? Go to the suburbs. Apparently, with the housing bust, many owner-occupied units are becoming rentals :(
December 19, 200717 yr Great stuff. Your pics of the river, RR bridges and COSI look like they were taken from my office window in Leveque.
December 19, 200717 yr I am a bad alumnus, what building is #12? It's their new rec center complex. The walkway area in the middle is directly above the indoor whitewater rafting course (as ColDayMan describes). It is really an impressive complex, but a bit glassy for me architecturally.
December 19, 200717 yr Planned indoor whitewater rafting course. Of course, knowing Ohio State, they'll be putting pipes under there connecting the hot air from McGee's office. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
