Posted December 19, 200717 yr A gritastic discovery in East Central Ohio. Posting from beautiful Stark County (well actually, the site was down when I was going to post these, so I'm posting from Butler, but whatever)
December 19, 200717 yr Sort of decline and collapse in slow motion. I have a vague feeling that I've been in Scio at some time, probably 30 - 40 years ago, but I don't have any photos or distinct memories of it.
December 19, 200717 yr Weird. I've actually never heard of this place! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 20, 200717 yr My brother lived in Scio for a while in the early 90's. He liked it because it was so remote and untouched. Can't really see what he saw in it.
December 20, 200717 yr great job. i like it, i can see the charm. here's something, i found these old pics of scio and check it out -- oilrigs? main street looking east 1898 :-o http://www.familyoldphotos.com/oh/coll/scio_postcards_and_photogr.htm also, when i google mapped it i noticed freeport, ohio and flushing, ohio below it. perhaps some kind of long island connection there? check the accents.
December 20, 200717 yr I've been to Scio (and the neighboring Jewett and New Rumley) - I can assure you, the accents are West-by God-Virginia aka 'Deliverance'. The area's claim to fame is that Clark Gable, George Custer and Cy Young are from there. My parents like to take long drives in the country and this is one of the areas they like. I've already told them if they move there, I'll put them in separate nursing homes. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
December 20, 200717 yr what? you mean they don't eat their pizza by the slice in freeport and flushing?
December 20, 200717 yr Man, I love towns like this. The oil rigs are due to Eastern Ohio's oil boom of the 1880s-1910s or so. Fun facts: Fran Drescher is actually from Flushing, Ohio and they do indeed fold thier pizza slices there. And what is now the New York Mets started there as the Flushing River Pilots.
