I don’t know about your part of Ohio, but here in suburban Dayton it’s gusty, snowy, drifts, and in the ‘teens.  So, lets take a trip back to a sunny Labor Day weekend a few months ago, for the 2007 Third World Reggae Festival, in the beautiful, green Dave Hall Plaza in the heart of downtown Dayton.

This is the oldest continuous Reggae festival in the Midwest.

…and there is even a bit of political content!  Yes I know it’s not ComFest, but we take what we can get…

Art in the Park.  Seeing this I think DHP could be a great venue for an outdoor Art Fair like the ones in Old Town in Chicago and St James Court in Louisville.

…and the music.  They had two stages.  Here was the line-up:

1PM - Zorba the Buddha (Dayton, Ohio)

2PM - Selecter (Cincinnati,Ohio)

3PM - Groovemaster (Toledo, Ohio)

4PM - Rob Dread and KMA (Lexington, Kentucky)

5PM - The Ark Band (St Lucia/Columbus, Ohio)

6PM - SEEFARI (Dayton/Wilberforce, Ohio)

7PM - Reggae Unity Encore Jam (featuring an all-star lie-up of reggae musicians)

Now with the Admiral Benbow gone, the Kettering Tower is more visible from DHP

I really like this shot.  The backdrop gives that great “downtown/urban park” feel, like Grant Park in Chicago.

Sharon Lane flashing a peace sign.  Sharon is a local musician, plays the piano and sings, also a songwriter.  Sort of a blues/lounge piano style, and her husband backs her on sax.  He was playing with one of the bands.

I really liked this home-made denim outfit.  Cool stuff.

I have another set with more band pix, but will wait till another day to post.

Great space, great event. Some '70s flashbacks, too!

Very cool. It seems Dayton has so many of these small festivals. I'll have to try to make it up for a few this summer.

Nice!
