We've already had a Rogers Park thread here on Urban Ohio, so I figured I'd post pictures of the North-most section of Rogers Park near the Howard Street station.  I was waiting to pick up my friend who lives nearby, so I decided to take some pictures within a 2 block area.

One of my favorite buildings

So my friend says this used to be a theater, but they demoed everything but the facade, and put a retail structure behind that.

Looking East down Howard, near a recently built shopping mall.

Across from the mall on Howard is this new apartment tower.  Residents have a mixed opinion of it.

This renovated loft building sits at the corner of the massive mall parking lot.  However, its close proximity to shopping and the CTA line make it a good place to live.

Now for some apartments and walk-up buildings

I know exactly where all of that is (I have a friend that lives not too far from that in Evanston).  Good job.

woohoo! Rogers Park. I really love the apt buildings there for some reason.

Good stuff! When I photographed Rogers Park and Howard CTA last October, I hadn't been in that area in several years. I was pleasantly surprised to see the improvements in progress at the CTA station, and the development in the surrounding area.

Great stuff. Looks like a neighborhood I could definitely live in!

^  Well, it's extremely affordable!

If I lived in Chicago and had to work downtown i don't think I'd live that far North unless I had a lot of money and a car. 1.5-2 hours to get to work on the EL is a headache. Otherwise I think its a great neighborhood. Its cheap but it doesnt appear to be very crime ridden considering how many independant nail salons and liquor stores there are (the usual indicators). Very diverse; you always hear people talking in different languages.

I have two friends who've grown up there, and one of my college friends had an apartment there.  1.5 - 2 hours?  Never!  Taking the El downtown shouldn't take longer than 30-35 minutes from Howard.  Taking the purple line express during commute times is even faster.  When I worked at a firm in Evanston, the commute from Main to downtown at the very longest during a delay took about 40 minutes.  Too drive that, it would take about 25 minutes, but then you have to deal with parking downtown.

The neighborhood overall is pretty safe.  It's just had some rough times in the past and is beginning to recover.

you go girl!

Taking the purple line express during commute times is even faster.

That used to be called the Evanston Express.

MY friend in Evanston lied then! They probably said that because they didn't feel like going downtown. Im calling him out on it next time I go up there. Thanks, Hayward.

Boooooo suburbanites!  I can't blame them though.  Sometimes the CTA can be tiring, no matter the distance.

Yeah, I knew CTA was having funding issues and tracks in disrepair forcing the trains to move 15 mph through some parts but 40 minutes sounds more realistic. I don't like people in Evanston! We were walking in d/t Evanston one time and I heard these 2 women talking about how terrible socialized medicine is. I almost accidentally bumped into her, spilling her starbucks all over her. 5 dollar 10' pizzas only a block or two from a Northface flagship store is pretty impressive though. Cheap food
