Posted January 4, 200817 yr So what's your favorite building in Downtown Dayton? If I didn't include it on the list please hit other and leave a comment. Mine is definitely Liberty Tower. For pics of the buildings with the names check out http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/?id=102551.
January 4, 200817 yr The Liberty Tower is great, but my favorite tower is this one (forgetting the name at the moment): There is just so much to it. As far as smaller buildings, the Arcade, old courthouse, and old DDN are my favorites.
January 4, 200817 yr ^Centre City Building. My favorite, honestly, is the YMCA Tower (Landing, or whatever it's called now), followed by Liberty Bank (Hulman). "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

January 5, 200817 yr I would have said the YMCA, but it looks too much like the one in Akron; it also reminds me of the design of Springfields. There isn't another Centre City Building...anywhere. And don't tell me that is for good reason, Cincy forumers.
January 5, 200817 yr I always liked the Dayton Art Museum building, but I suppose that isn't in downtown propper?
January 5, 200817 yr Centre City by far. Inkaelin is right that it is unique, but not only it's looks, but in the way it was constructed. The top section and northern section were built many years after the original building then known as the United Brethren Building, giving it it's unique look. Also if you never had the chance to see it with it's copper roof shiny and not tarnished, it was extremely beautiful. The United Brethren Building was completed in 1904 at 14 stories. In 1927, two other towers were added. Emporis states that it was Dayton's tallest building from 1904 until 1931, but I highly dispute this fact as I feel that Centre City is taller than Liberty Tower. I also dispute the steel construction of the tower since the construction pictures inside the tower show the frame construction as wood and concrete. Also, Requarth's website states they provided construction and materials for the United Brethren building which further confirms my beliefs. Here is United Brethren before the additions... and after... You gotta love this building.
January 5, 200817 yr It's certainly unique but I still prefer the Landing and Hulman. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
January 5, 200817 yr since i dont know the names of the buildings too well i'll say the arcade. my spouse, the daytonite, says the winters bank building....but she laughed when she said it so i dk what that means.
January 5, 200817 yr ^---She's referring to the Kettering Tower which was originally named Winters Bank...that black monstrosity international style box that Dayton likes to call it's tallest
January 6, 200817 yr I really don't know why, but that Wright Stop Plaza (does that have an older, quainter name?) seems to top my list, at least when I'm not looking at the unadorned sides of the building.
January 8, 200817 yr ^---You know Billy, that's a GREAT choice! Especially after the renovation! Have you been inside that sucker yet? It's incredible! Maybe that should be added to the voting list. Does anyone have any pics of the Kuhns Building renovation?
