If you want to read about the project (announced today) you can read here Here

I'm curious about people's thoughts on the building itself, and the architect, Anthony Caradonna

That's the snazziest rendering facility I've ever seen.

But seriously...

[barfs into keyboard]

agreed, the first and third leave little to be desired.  The second shows possible promise....

ugh....maybe in Dubai...and 200 stories taller. LOL

It looks like a Gehry tornado trying to wipe out the Cadillac Tower.  Congrats, you join the ranks of Covington, Cincinnati, and Louisville for outrageous buildings in this region.

But Kwame approves!

What Cincinnati building is overly outrageous?  Maybe some of the ones on UC's campus?

Edit: CAC?

^He might be talking about the contemporary arts center or the vontz center for molecular studies.  I wanna know too.

Queen City Square II.

Meaning, "Danger, Danger!"  :drunk:

He is talking about The Ascent in Covington...he really hates that building (otherwise referred to as The Swoosh - like Nike Swoosh).

As for this building...I think it is terrible in all senses of the word.

My thoughts, It looks like crap!  But hey, its in Detroit.

I think they modeled it after Kilpatrick's brain on drugs.

That was Robot from Lost in Space that said "Danger Danger". I also don't think QCSII is in no way close to outrageous. And when is my Robby the Robot joke gonna phase out? LOL

That isn't the Lost in Space robot.  That robot was silver, with a barrel like chest and small tank-like set of tracks where the feet are.  He didn't have a head, just a glass ring with lights in it.

$150-million complex planned for downtown Detroit

Cadillac Centre to include lofts, stores

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and private developers are days away from announcing a blockbuster new residential, retail and entertainment center in the heart of Detroit, a project aimed at pumping up downtown's 24-hour buzz and international interest in the city.

The $150-million Cadillac Centre, plans for which were disclosed exclusively to the Free Press, would rise on a parcel known as the Monroe Block, a surface parking lot just east of Woodward Avenue and Campus Martius Park near the Compuware headquarters.

Financing is lined up, and the schedule calls for breaking ground in the fall of 2009, with tenants moving in late 2011.

Ummmmm....O.K. good for detroit.

I think that's the robot from the classic sci fi film "Forbidden Planet".

I'm not crazy about the massing of this new thing, but it will certainly look cool lit up at night.  Kudos to downtown detroit for some planned ground-up condo and retail construction...though I guess I should wait until they actually break ground (learned the hard way in CLE).

I know the one pictured is not Robot, that's Robby from Forbidden Planet. But Robby never said "Danger Danger", that was Robot from lost in space that said that.

How do we get in these conversations anyway? LOL

I think Ronnie's right about Robbie the Robot.  And I like the Forbidden Planet vs. Lost In Space robot discussion better then the project renderings!  Is this supposted to be the world's largest valet parking sign?!?

I actually like the aerial shot.

I actually like the aerial shot.

Me too, it really shows the context of Campus Martius and how it can (and already is) the focal point of downtown.

^ yeah i like that aerial too, it fits, but until they learn to spell american anything called a "centre" should be in windsor.

Bah.

The renderings showing it in the context of the older Cadillac Square building (name?) do the proposed building a disservice; it would look less incongrous shown next to the more contemporary Compuware building.

Still, [bARF].

  • 2 weeks later...

Corrupt? I'd say that's a big DetroitYES

  • 8 months later...

This project is now dead.  Developers wanted to scale it down to a parking garage.  City said absolutely not.
