March 22, 201213 yr I think Gates will do well against Sullinger. However, the beacats will have their hands full with Craft and Deshaun T.
March 22, 201213 yr And I just learned that there's only one college basketball team in Cincinnati...and it's Catholic. It's a shame Ohio State has to beat Our Lady of the Bearcubs before we advance. We'd might as well have played Shawnee State. I think you're referring to the University of Norwood, they were lucky enough to have to beat the likes of Lehigh to stumble into the Sweet 16.
March 22, 201213 yr Not really. UC will lose and that's about it. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
March 23, 201213 yr I guess when a town only has college sports to get behind, they really get into it, and when a city has no colleges, they're all for other cities colleges. I'll check out this thread next year, I'm off to the Reds thread.
March 23, 201213 yr Good try Bearcats, nice run at the start of the second half. Too bad you had to play the last 10 minutes...Now onto my Bobcats versus the 'heels tonight.
March 23, 201213 yr Other city's colleges? Let me rearrange the emPHasis for a minute here - The OHIO State University. Feel free to jump on the bandwagon. Besides, we really don't have time for a big-time college bball program given our professional sports teams play year round unlike Cincy :P

I'll check out this thread next year, I'm off to the Reds thread. There's no need to be bitter. The better team won (as always), so it's just best to admit defeat and keep it movin' like Soul II Soul. And believe me, if you're moving on to the Reds thread, you'll be full of disappointment again :(. March 23, 201213 yr Just because I live in Ohio does not mean i HAVE to root for tO$U BTW, Rafferty referred to OSU as the "bobcats" at least once last nite!

February 3, 201312 yr 5 Star Jermaine Lawrence verbals to UC, class of 2013. Jeff Goodman @GoodmanCBS HUGE pickup for Mick Cronin and Bearcats. @jeffborzello: Just confirmed: five-star forward Jermaine Lawrence has committed to Cincinnati. Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein Just landed in NJ + saw that Cincinnati landed Jermaine Lawrence. Monumental commitment for Mick Cronin. Big time get for the Bearcats. Jermaine Lawrence of Pope John commits to Cincinnati http://www.nj.com/hssports/blog/boysbasketball/index.ssf/2013/02/jermaine_lawrence_of_pope_john_commits_to_cincinnati.html
September 18, 201311 yr UC grabbed a 4 star Center from NJ, http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Quadri-Moore-129808 offers from most of the Big East schools and a good looking 3 star top 150 player from North Carolina with offers from half of the ACC. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Gary-Clark-136978
January 19, 201411 yr Bearcats roll to 17-2 with a road win at USF. Still undefeated in conference play.
January 25, 201411 yr Bearcats roll to 18-2. AD Whit Babcock leaves for VaTech. Interim AD is Desiree Desiree Reed-Francois :-)
January 25, 201411 yr Gotcha. I hadn't seen her name elsewhere. You never know! Could have been like Boutros Boutros Ghali or something. Bearcat fans I've seen on various message boards seem to be displeased with this turn of events.

Bearcat fans I've seen on various message boards seem to be displeased with this turn of events. Whit was a keeper, good AD. The prior AD Thomas said there wasn't a market for suites and premium seating at Nippert and Whit proved him wrong. In less than 2 years he got the renovation plan finalized, impressive.
January 27, 201411 yr Justin Jackson injured 6 minutes into the game. Could not play. Bearcats hold off Temple. 19-2.
January 27, 201411 yr Justin Jackson injured 6 minutes into the game. Could not play. Bearcats hold off Temple. 19-2. That was a pretty close game with an awful team. A W is a W, but it doesn't give me confidence.
January 27, 201411 yr Justin Jackson injured 6 minutes into the game. Could not play. Bearcats hold off Temple. 19-2. That was a pretty close game with an awful team. A W is a W, but it doesn't give me confidence. It was kind of a sleeper game, on the road, against a bad team, with Louisville coming up later this week. Plus, that one guy from Temple was on fire and made 7 of 8 three pointers in the second half.

But it's good to see the Bearcats at 19-2. Too bad they had to lose to Xavier to get that fire in their belly. Hopefully Jackson's back to play vs. Louisville.
January 27, 201411 yr Pepper was out of his mind shooting 3's. Good player. Cats need JJ, best shot blocker since KMart for UC.
January 31, 201411 yr 20-2, Cincinnati ran some great offense against the Cardinals. They shot 63.2 percent in the second half and 48.9 percent for the game, in part because they successfully attacked the Louisville press but also as the product of some pretty passing plays and even, perhaps, the first successful execution of the Dribble Drive Motion offense the state of Kentucky has seen this season. Over the past three games, they shot 50.3 percent from the field. “A lot of people don’t understand,” Kilpatrick said. “We have a lot more weapons.” Sophomore forward Shaq Thomas attacked eagerly on offense for a second straight game and scored 11 points. Freshman point guard Troy Caupain is the best passer the program has had at the position since — who? Puffy Kennedy in 1981? Steve Logan, Kenny Satterfield, Nick Van Exel — they were scoring points. Caupain had only one assist, but Cronin lauded him for successfully inbounding the ball “with all the holding and grabbing and no-calling going on” by the Louisville press. “I don’t really have to do a lot, like get to the basket and score,” Caupain said. “I’ve just got to control the ball, don’t turn it over, run the plays, execute. That’s the biggest thing coach preaches to me: execute as the point guard, bring everybody together when things get rattled.” http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketb...louisville
February 4, 201411 yr Make it 14 straight wins, and UC is now ranked 7th in the AP - their highest ranking since the days of the legendary Bob Huggins.
February 18, 201411 yr Back to #7. This should be a good game Saturday vs. Louisville. Glad it's at home.
February 19, 201411 yr Hopefully they can easily beat UCF. UC always seems to play to the level of the teams they are playing.
February 19, 201411 yr How they stack up: On offense, Louisville ranks an impressive 9th. UC checks in at an even more impressive 7th. This will be a defensive standoff and points will be at a premium. However, on offense, Louisville is 12th and UC is 108th. Big edge to the Cards. Three teams rank in the Pomeroy's top 15 for both offense and defense: Florida, Syracuse, and...yes, Louisville. Good company to have. More on that offense: The Cards can score. Even though they are playing clearly over-matched opponents most nights, they own their largest MOV through 25 games in the history of the program. Sean Kilpatrick: A key to beating Louisville will be SK scoring 28 points and UC shooting 17-18 from the line again. Kirkpatrick was spectacular and the difference maker. Consider this as you reflect on his key free throws at the end of the last meeting, Louisville had three more field goals in that game. Turnovers: UC will also need to limit turnovers. Ville scored 26 points of 20 UC TO's. The Louisville press will be a factor as will UC's halfcourt D, which was stifling last meeting. Rebounds: Louisville will be focused on not getting destroyed on the boards as in the first meeting. Jackson, Thomas and Rubles will give Harrell, Van Treese and Mathiang trouble again. This Cards will need rebounding effort our of Rozier and Blackshear to matchup. Momentum: Cincinnati cannot...CANNOT let Louisville go on runs of 14-0 and 19-8. UC fans won't come to watch their own team but they do like to see the defending champs in the house. They'll be loud and the Bearcats can feed off the great energy. Key Wildcard Stats: Louisville 16 assists. Prediction: Pitino teams seems to develop a chemistry circa Valentine's Day. The Cardinals pull the road upset and earn a signature win. Louisville 65 UC 59
February 19, 201411 yr Hash, UC had a sellout for the Houston game. Fair to say UC does not draw well for the low majors, but for conference games attendance is strong. It will be loud on Saturday. I wish the game was not a noon top. I think Mick is 5-5 against Louisville as head coach at UC. That is pretty good considering the train wreck he inherited.
February 19, 201411 yr ^Kyle, I knew that would draw a reaction. Ha! You leave out that most of our sorry conference is low major. You know I'm a big Cards fan so I couldn't keep that little blurb completely objective. Attendance smack is an easy weapon for Cards fans and UC has been an easy target the past several years...sadly. I like Mick and wish he got more support. UC is my second fave and alma mater. I've always sung Mick's praises even when people called me crazy. Mick does well against Pitino because they are cut from a similar cloth. Defense first. Fit athletes. Scouting report junkies. Any thoughts on my non-attendance analysis? What's your prognostication?

Any thoughts on my non-attendance analysis? What's your prognostication? Going to be a close game. Ville was able to generate turnovers against UC in game 1. In the first half Ville missed some easy shots, and they are best setting up the trap after made baskets, which they did in the second half. UC has good ball handlers but not great. UC is quicker in the post, they need to attack the glass on offense when they break the trap, get fouls on Ville. UC is over achieving this year so far (similar to Huggs teams), but I think 2 seasons from now UC will look more like a legit Syracuse, Kansas type of roster. Hopefully we can still play OOC, better than that under achieving Memphis gig.
February 25, 201411 yr How do you drop 4 spots after getting beat by the national champion by one point???? Duke lost a game not too long ago and stayed at it's same spot.
March 7, 201411 yr On a Thursday night complete with plenty of emotion and tears as senior captains Sean Kilpatrick, Justin Jackson and Titus Rubles played their last game at Fifth Third Arena, a sellout crowd of 13,176 watched them work their magic to end a two-game losing streak with a convincing 97-84 victory over No.20 Memphis. The three seniors combined for 71 points with no turnovers after they were honored before the game, with both Kilpatrick and Jackson fighting back tears as they walked onto the court to meet coach Mick Cronin. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/college/university-of-cincinnati/2014/03/06/uc-wins-memphis-senior-night-97-84/6148227/ Tom Gelehrter @Tommy_G ·2 hrs I wasn't there, but I am told Sam Longo just hammered out 47 reps on the bench press on #Bearcats NFL Pro Day. Side note, 47 reps of 225 is nuts. Tom Gelehrter @Tommy_G ·2 hrs To put Sam Longo's 47 reps (at 225) on the bench in perspective, the next closest Bearcat was Jordan Stepp with 27. #NFL https://twitter.com/Tommy_G
March 12, 201411 yr Right now we're projected to be a 4 seed and could potentially play Wichita State in the Sweet Sixteen.
December 18, 201410 yr UC had their first big win last night against #19 San Diego State University. They won 71-62 in Overtime. They have improved to 7-2 (losing to Ole Miss and Nebraska). Second in the American Athletic Conference behind Tulane (8-1). No one has played an in-conference game yet, so it's really early to know anything for sure about how the season may shape up.
December 18, 201410 yr That was a big win last night. All 3 bigs, who are first year players here, played well. Another big game Saturday against VCU.
December 22, 201410 yr ^ VCU rammed UC on Saturday. But you can forgive the Bearcats for the sub-par performance. Just 90 minutes before the game, 43-year-old head coach Mick Cronin told his team that he would not be on the sideline. Cronin was diagnosed with an unruptured aneurysm and will be sidelined indefinitely while doctors decide how to treat it. The report about this at http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/12056548/cincinnati-bearcats-coach-mick-cronin-aneurysm contained this tweet from Coach Cronin: Mick Cronin - @CoachCroninUC I want everyone to know I am going to be ok!! I just can't coach for precautionary reasons with my medical condition. 11:50 AM - 20 Dec 2014
December 30, 201410 yr Bearcats currently up 17 points against NC St. An odd start time of 4 pm on ESPNU. Just came across it.
December 31, 201410 yr Bearcats currently up 17 points against NC St. An odd start time of 4 pm on ESPNU. Just came across it. That was one the better games I have seen UC play in some time. They dominated that game and shut down the leading scorers for NC State, on the road. If they can make open shots they are going to win often. Cobb and Deberry were steals via the JUCO ranks.
January 2, 201510 yr UC's Mick Cronin is out for rest of season University of Cincinnati men's basketball coach Mick Cronin will not coach his team in practices or games for the rest of the 2014-15 season for health reasons, UC announced Friday at a press conference which Cronin attended. Cronin will stay with the team in an advisory role that includes directing the coaching staff, game planning and recruiting. UC announced Dec. 20 that Cronin had a brain aneurysm, and the coach has missed three games since. Friday, the update from UC on Cronin's condition was that he has a non-life threatening vascular condition known as arterial dissection. His treatment and recovery includes rest, medication and keeping a normal blood pressure. Cronin's condition was discovered in mid-December during a routine workup scheduled after a complaint of lingering headaches. He has missed three games since, with UC going 2-1 under associate head coach Larry Davis.

January 7, 201510 yr Despite missing Cronin, UC is doing pretty well. They are 11-3, and 2-0 in conference play, which is enough to get them a 39 RPI ranking. They are giving up just 54 points per game on average, 7th best in NCAA.
February 22, 201510 yr Nice profile of the UC vs X rivalry. Even if the writer is a tOSU guy. "...Cincinnati is located pretty much where Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky meet ... It’s as if Cincinnati, in its early days, had a citywide meeting to decide which state to associate itself with and the residents picked none of the above and decided to just do their own thing." http://grantland.com/the-triangle/unheralded-rivalry-report-ncaa-college-basketball-cincinnati-xavier-the-crosstown-shootout-oscar-robertson-bob-huggins-pete-gillen-david-west/
