Funky Buddha is no longer and hasn't been there for a while (and it was on West 9th, not Public Square). You're right though - Fat Fish Blue is definitely a great spot to catch a live act. :-)

In fact, UrbanOhio should make this a regular event -- getting together with all the newcomers over coffee every Saturday morning to share information, answer questions and to help the new arrivals with anything from tips on great restaurants and out of the way places to just having someone to talk to -- really helps get over the homesickness sometimes.

 

1st Saturday of the month - 10 a.m. - AJ Rocco's Expresso Bar -- 816 Huron Road, Cleveland (downtown).

 

2nd Saturday of the month - 10 a.m. - Coventry Phoenix Cafe -- 1854 Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights (east side).

Just took a cold shower. I'm OK, now.

I think it would be too hard to have a regularly meeting group because people's schedules change so much.  I would rather we all got together specifically to welcome newbies and tried to supplement it with lunches or coffees at other times just for "whatever" when people are available.

 

When I don't have to work at my 2nd job, I'm usually downtown on Saturdays as I go to the WSM and Sausage Shoppe every 2 weeks and take a class in Tremont on Saturday afternoons.

Makes sense rockandroller, plus, there are enough of us so that we could make sure a few were available for a welcome ....and yes, no reason to have one if we don't have anyone to welcome.  I have a client I am trying to convince to post here; she and her hubby are trying to move back up to Cleveland Heights.  I think it's a great feature for this Forum, how welcoming and informational it can be.

10am on a Saturday is waaay too early, and once a week is waaay too frequent. The idea is great, but I have my doubts. Again - look at the turnout for events we've tried to coordinate where we've done everything conceivable (within reason) to make sure plenty of people 1. are able to go 2. are reminded when/where with enough frequency ahead of time. It's really frustrating because someone will suggest "let's have a get-together" and a bunch of people say "yeah, that'd be great!" but when it comes to actually attending it's the usual six or seven suspects (who I'm glad are there), but if the point is to get *other/new* people to these events, I don't know what else would work. I'm personally reluctant to help coordinate such an event, even I've been told I'm apparently good at it. Honest to god, it feels like ->

 

omg I had no idea it was every sat at ten am May Day :-)  I'm glad to see there is another nightowl in our midst.  Why don't we just leave it this way: someone is coming to town; depending on what side of town they will be staying can determine where our meet up is...if they can come! Doesn't that make more sense?

I know how you feel MayDay.  I had a group of girlfriends and everyone LOVED getting together but always asked me to organize.  I would say for every 10 who say they will show up, 5 actually do so I'd make reservations for a table of like 25 and then it would end up being like 12 people who actually came.  I quit organizing them and they quit happening.

As a train person in Cleveland, you have to be a nightowl to ride Amtrak!

 

And I was debating whether or not the coffee gatherings should start as early as 9 a.m.
