It was a boring night in Cincinnati. So I decided to break out he bubble machine and take some pictures. I altered the bubble solution a bit. So the bubbles were a little more resilient. The results were interesting. I had no idea bubbles collapsed in this fashion.

oooooooo  pretty

Haha. Thanks. I was still learning how to use a dslr at that point. Need to revisit the subject. Could have been better,ie. Depth of Field. But interesting nonetheless. Thanks for super quick reply.

The bubble on the right is in an amoebic state, struggling to define himself and conform to a specific shape, in a world of inequality. The bubble to the left decided to commit suicide. It says so much about society. I love it!

Thats deep man.

What are you on this morning - Have you been drinking my coffee?  That is just scary!  I was going to post it in the favorite quotes thread, but I'm affriad....very afraid

Sounds like something other than coffee to me.

Remarkable photo, chain! How many tries did it take to sync up with the bursting of the bubble?

Got it one the 3rd try,was luck..

Several years ago I read an article in a photography magazine describing the construction of sound or light or motion sensors to trigger an ultra-high-speed electronic flash.

The article was illustrated with photos of things like a bullet shattering a light bulb. I think it was all done in a dark box or room with an open shutter, because there wasn't any mechanical shutter with quick enough response to capture the events. The exposure was timed and controlled entirely by the flash.

Great stuff thus far chain...glad to have you around.

Appreciate it..Great forums.

Lol..thanks for the heads up.I would comment further. But I have issues too..haha

Just remember, if you hear any stories about me involving:

1.) Meth labs

2.) Going to sexaholics anonymous meetings to pick up women

or 3.) Getting arrrested for getting caught putting Chuck-E-Cheese tokens in the toll booth outside of Chicago

They're definitely not true.

You must have been bored but the end result is cool!

Haha..And remember any stories you hear about me pertaining to "Midgets,Strippers and Firetrucks" are not true either..... Yeah was a slow day in Cinci...

i dk what is more mind blowing, the image itself or thinking about how you were able to catch that shot. wow!

ps -- you should seriously enter that into a stock photo bank. it's such an iconic and useful image for all kinds of things, i bet you would get steady checks for it.

A few of you ask about the timing. The "bubbles" were luck. If you really want a challenge try something like this.  :-D

Yeah the way I dealt with this was by using a slightly slower shutter speed than I thought was necessary, then I just synced it to the computer, switched on the bubble machine and let the computer take picts for awhile.Bound to catch one. I tinkered with the bubble solution as well and was able to get the bubbles to burst almost instantly upon leaving the machine. Basically I just did as much as I could to stack the odds in my favor.

What would have been cool too, was if you took a white sheet and put it in the background of your shot ... but it still looks great!

Yeah I need to visit this subject again. Alot could be done to improve it. Thanks for commenting.

Somebody's got too much free-time on their hands...Just kidding these are fantastic.  I have been especially entertained with your photos thus far.

Thanks,..yeah I used to be a Painter/Airbrush artist but injured my hand and since have moved onto photography. It's both easier and harder than painting. But I think what I learned painting lends itself well to photography. Thanks again for kind words.
