January 20, 200817 yr This shot can be a scary one, because you have to hold you camera over the rail a little bit in order to get the shot. There is always a little bit of a breeze, and that lurking thought that you might slip up and drop the thing. You are brave. :-D
January 20, 200817 yr Haha..I hate heights too. Was even worse though because at the time I was using a canon point and shoot with a narrow lens. So I had to do this in 3 shots then stitch them together. I hadn't been up there since Junior High.
January 21, 200817 yr nice job. what kind of photo stitch program do you have? i have one called 'panoramamaker 3,' but i havent used it much.
January 21, 200817 yr Anyone knows what the green structure at the top represents or is used for? The PNC building was the tallest building outside of NYC when it was built in 1913, and the 5th tallest in the world. Interestingly, the capital portion of the building (columns + pyramid) is designed after one of the 7 wonders of the world (the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus).
January 21, 200817 yr There is a smokestack hidden inside that green structure. Also, there used to be a pyramid on top of the green structure, making the skyscraper 5 feet taller.
January 21, 200817 yr Wow, a plethora of historic info that I am too lazy to find on my own . Gotta love forums. I never knew about the torch,or the pyramid,or that it was modeled after another structure. Neat stuff.. @mrnyc nice job. what kind of photo stitch program do you have? i have one called 'panoramamaker 3,' but i havent used it much. I tried just about every one for Pc and Mac and Linux over the years. I finally settled on one called Autostitch that was made at the AI lab at University of Berkley California. Took sum digging to find,. But it's free. Dead simple, and 99% of the time does a great job. But occasionally you get a treat like this, Link http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html Thanks for comments everyone.
January 21, 200817 yr ^---Correct. It was a pyramid which brought PNC up to 505 feet. Not sure why they removed it. So Cincinnati once had 2 500+ footers! ;-)
January 24, 200817 yr I found this postcard on cincinnativiews (http://www.cincinnativiews.net) which clearly shows the small pyramid at the very top of the capital. You guys were right!
