Posted January 23, 200817 yr I froze last week to get some shots of the sign coming down to make way for Progressive Field. Followed by a short walk around downtown, which actually warmed me up.... a bit..... for a few minutes. EDIT: I finally got them posted right :)
January 23, 200817 yr i was kind of dreading that someone would put up a 'de-jake de jake' thread, but aside from that you did a great job. maybe you could post a few of those pics too?
January 23, 200817 yr First Quicken Loans. Now Progressive. How progressive of Cleveland's sports scene. I can't wait for Browns Stadium to be known as "Pittsburgh Paints Stadium." "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
January 23, 200817 yr First Quicken Loans. Now Progressive. How progressive of Cleveland's sports scene. I can't wait for Browns Stadium to be known as "Pittsburgh Paints Stadium." We were pretty lucky with the prior owners. They chose to spend money to buy the naming rights. The Browns have done the same. I don't know of any other city where all the pro sports teams' owners stepped up like that. It was nice while it lasted for two of the three.
January 23, 200817 yr Um, Glidden Stadium. naah, day-glo stadium! to be followed up by duck tape arena! nice jeffery, initially i didn't see the rest of the downtown pics.
January 23, 200817 yr If you had froze even longer, you could've photographed COBS FIELD followed by BS FIELD.
January 23, 200817 yr I have absolutely no sentimental attachment to "The Jake" or "Jacobs Field" - but the first person who says "The Prog" in my presence will get one serious b!tchslap. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
January 23, 200817 yr Slap away! Honestly, it's happening all over the world and it's not as bad some corporate names. The pictures are great! I don't know if you're shorter than I am or the cold air had an effect but the city looks really great. It looks like the lighting made the buildings glow.
January 23, 200817 yr Really nice pictures. I really enjoy the suns reflection off windows on to other buildings. Really cool. I have never been a fan of all these stupid brand-name sporting facilities. The only ones that I think work are "Great-American" and "Nationwide", "Huntington" will have to grow on me. "Shottenstein" would work for me if it wasn't officially known as "The Jerome Schottenstein Value-City Arena". I am happy now too that "Germain Amphatheater" is now closed. "Polaris" was such a cooler name. The name of a sports facility should always be called the same thing until it is torn down. I mean, these places have identities. I mean, could you imagine renaming Wriggly Field or St. John Arena? It would be like me changing my own name in the hopes that I could have a new identity or something. But hey, there's a concept, perhaps I could sell my naming rights to some corporation that way I can pay off my loans faster. :-) Any takers?

When I said "The Prog," I meant it derisively, and it was intended as a b!tchslap at those who allowed the name to be appended to the Jake.
January 27, 200817 yr I mean, could you imagine renaming Wriggly Field or St. John Arena? It would be like me changing my own name in the hopes that I could have a new identity or something. We don't usually think of it this way but Wrigley Field was one of the first stadiums to become "corporate". Mr. Wrigley figured it would be a great way to promote his chewing gum. Prior to being Wrigley field, it was known as Cubs Park and Weghman Field.
January 27, 200817 yr How sad!!! :( I remember being in the Cub Scouts (don't make fun!) and we got to march around Jacobs Field during the 1994 inaugural season! Anyway, great pics!!!
