It's 4 am.. I'm drunk.. and I wanna post pictures!!

Awesome pictures, does the arcade still look like that/is it still around? Did you take these?

^ Yes I took these with my first 35mm camera from my high school years to young adult. Here is the Arcade today, it has been restored and it is a Hyatt Hotel. Check the "picture of the day" thread, MayDay posted a nice picture of the Arcade yesterday.

Oh Kfed,  I was totally sober 8-) here is what I woke up to this morning (afternoon)...

Great shots... I miss the Hanna Fountains.  The Mall seems sterile without them, although I understand the flooding/other problems w/ them in the CC.  I miss the old Flats in their heyday where, nightly, the Cuyahoga was thick w/ pleasure boats... those were the days...

This thread wrapped me in a flood of memories (still none of the blizzards though  :wtf:) as "Light up Cleveland" and "The SOHIO Riverfest" were job responsibilities.  Sigh.

You made Cleveland look cool!

Coldayman's text version of putting a saliva-soaked finger in someone's ear. Wrecks a good time every time.

Anyway. Great pics Florida Guy. Brought back a lot of good memories.

Questions: are you friggin' crazy?? On the ledge AND drinking? Did the CPD show up with an inflatable jump bag and a psychologist to talk you guys down?

Just repaying a favor from KStay2's response in some other C's threads.

Florida Guy's thread is fantastic.

Kids do some stupid things and this happens to be one of them. At least the moron that jumped from the Main Avenue Bridge into the river that night wasn't from our bunch. We were sitting on the patio at one of the clubs (Rivers Edge? Rumrunners?) and there was a huge splash. The next day I read in the paper that the kid had broken both his legs, he was lucky. Oh the memories!

Thank you Cleveland ;).

Now, that I remember!  Oh, the irony!  FloridaGuy, what high school did you attend?

A little Freudian slip there MTS . I went to HS in Youngstown, moved to Cleveland (Edgewater) and then left for college here in FTL.

Yeah, but that guy jumped off the Main Avenue Bridge because he couldn't remember the Blizzard of '78 either!

That was my "baby".  I'm all verklempted!  Those pictures bring back so many memories.  (Off topic, memories are flooding in yet still no memories of that snow storm)  :-P

These are great! Oh the old Higbee's sign in the last pic. :-(

  • 1 year later...

Why is there no riverfest anymore?  Did that event die with the closing of the entertainment portion of the Flats?  What I would give to be 15-20 years older (first time I've ever said that).

Are you a native Clevelander??  How old are you??  Quick dry dirty answer.  SOHIO (BP America) is no longer HQ'd in Cleveland.  No HQ in Cleveland, no title/leading sponsor.  No Sponsor, no riverfest.

I am not a native Clevelander and I am 24 years old.  However, I've always had a love for Cleveland (probably because of the Browns and my dad's obsession with them growing up) and now that I live here it saddens me that a couple of Cleveland's great unique attractions are gone that I never got to experience.  I've been here for a year and I probably know more about this city than my friends who grew up here thanks to UO.

Now I know, why you did not know.

Have there ever been talks of bringing it back?  I assume "Burning River Fest" is somewhat playing off of this former event (even though it's more about environmental awareness)?

Haha. I think this is the quote of the day.  Nice...

SOHIO owned the rights to "the riverfest".  So if it comes back I doubt it will be called that.  I'm sure if some large corporate had the money to do it, I new version of the event could be created.

Ha the sad part is it's true.  Half of the time I feel that I am educating them about "their" city and the events that go on throughout it.

When the East Bank is completed then maybe something like this could happen again.

Well good for you t7.  Yeah sometimes the locals aren't very good locals and they need some education.  They are usually the ones that haven't lived anywhere else.

Cleveland is lucky to have you.

Oh, and I have a feeling that one day when the East back comes to fruition the Riverfest will be back in some shape or form.

When the East Bank is completed then maybe something like this could happen again.

Could being the operative word.  I don't think wolstein has the money.

Gilbert? He likes to spend money like a drunken sailor...

Anyway, those are some great shots of the Hanna Fountains. When did they take them out? I moved up here in 2002. I am 31 and I don't even remember them from when I was kid on my trips to Cleveland from Y-town.

You kids are going to have to learn how to use the search feature.  I bet if you hit the search tab and put in the following, "hanna" or "hanna fountains" the information would magically appear.  :-D

It's monday morning I am not on the top of my game...being lazy...

I will search....search I must..
