  • It's perfect timing, really. The RNC should invite him to speak at next week's victimfest along with all the other people that have been cancelled faced consequences for their actions.

  • The part that's most annoying to me is he started his apology by saying "if" I offended anyone, which is immediately insincere. I also like that he said "I'm a man of faith" like that is a good thing.

Cincinnati Bell's on deck

CINCINNATI - In conjunction with Reds Opening Day, Cincinnati Bell is building a technology pavilion where it can showcase its latest products.  The "Riverboat Deck" will sit on a rebuilt batter's eye at Great American Ball Park.  In a three-year deal worth more than $1 million annually, the company's Technology Solutions unit will operate the technology pavilion inside the structure just beyond center field, which it can use to show products even when the Reds are not playing.

The Reds say it's another creative way to get new revenue out of the ballpark.

^What ever happened to actually putting together a good ball team to make money? I must be old fashioned.

That would be 'getting money out of the team'...this is a way for 'getting money out of the ballpark'

i sure as hell hope it doesnt look like a riverboat deck...the existance of the "power stacks" is already overboard...hahaha

Rose to attend Opening Day

All-time hit king calls exhibit at Reds Hall 'overwhelming'

BY JOHN KIESEWETTER | [email protected]

March 14, 2007

CINCINNATI - Reds fans who tour the new Pete Rose exhibit on Opening Day might also see the all-time hit king at the game.  Rose, banned from baseball in 1989, is planning to attend his first Opening Day and see his first game at Great American Ball Park.  Rose bought two tickets for the April 2 opener, Bob Castellini Jr., Reds Hall of Fame and Museum president, said late Tuesday.  Rose, who lives in Los Angeles, had announced that he would be back for Opening Day during a private party Tuesday night for the new "Pete: The Exhibit" in the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum lobby gallery.

With Cooperstown still far out of reach, Rose said he's thrilled to be showcased in his hometown Reds Hall.  "It's overwhelming, to say the least," he said at a late-afternoon news conference for the new 11-month display, opening Saturday.  "To be part of the Hall of Fame - I don't know if (the Reds) will get in trouble or not - but I'm glad they're doing it."

(They're not. Major League Baseball officials approved the display)

Ale back for Reds games

BarrelHouse revives traditions with return to ballpark, Opening Day customer appreciation specials

BY JON NEWBERRY | [email protected]

March 27, 2007

CINCINNATI - Baseball and Cincinnati beer, a pairing once as natural as peanuts and Cracker Jacks, are getting back together.  After a two-year absence from Great American Ball Park, BarrelHouse Brewing Co.'s RedLegg Ale will once again be on tap during Cincinnati Reds games this season and at the park's Machine Room Grille, according to Rick DeBar, BarrelHouse's brewmaster.

BarrelHouse is also reviving another longtime Opening Day tradition with a "customer appreciation day" at its West End microbrewery.  DeBar said it will be an annual event, with door prizes donated by area businesses - including two tickets to Opening Day - as well as sausages from Avril-Bleh & Sons meat market on Court Street downtown and plenty of RedLegg Ale and other BarrelHouse beers.

Sports Illustrated picked the Reds to finish SIXTH in the NL Central!

SI has consistently craped all over Cincinnati sports for as long I can remember.  I quit paying SI any attention a LOOOONG time ago.

so who is going to opening day/being downtown/doing the parade?

the one and only pope will be downtown (unfortunately doing work)

so who is going to opening day/being downtown/doing the parade?

I will most definitely be there.

I will also be rooting for my hometown team. Go cubbies! 8-)

I feel sorry for Cub fans.

I'll be there.

I'm probably going to be down there for the parade and at a bar for some drinks and to watch the game (since I don't have tix).

If someone wants to possibly meet up PM me and we can discuss it.

Here is a cool little slide show of the Reds players for the '07 season.  Pretty enjoyable...Brandon Phillips is awesome!

SLIDESHOW: Reds Double Takes

BTW...in case I haven't said it before.  I LOVE the new uniforms!!!  The classic look is something the Reds have been missing.  Fantastic move by the front office!

1 game up on the Cards!

We looked solid today...good pitching, timely hitting and beautiful uniforms!!!  Oh, I also love the look of that new party deck thing out in center field...awesome!

Adam Dunn started off the season pretty strong, and Harang looked pretty good too.

Dunn is on pace to hit 324 homers this year and drive in nearly 500.  I'm pretty sure he'll fall short of that, though.

i went to head first today.

ouch.

so negative...thats the problem with this city!

^lol....that was quite possibly the worst 'first pitch' that I have EVER seen!  Come on Mark; get it together!

I find this kinda funny!

Mallory pitches 10 excuses

BY JANE PRENDERGAST | [email protected]

April 3, 2007

CINCINNATI - Mayor Mark Mallory today released a Top Ten list of reasons why his now-infamous Opening Day first pitch went so wrong:

10. I have a shoulder injury from cracking the whip too hard on council.

9. I got some last-minute tips from Lou Piniella.

8. I was protesting Ken Griffey’s move to right.

7. I didn’t want to show up President Bush. He might put a wiretap on me.

6. I am saving my best stuff for my Bengals tryout.

5. First pitch? I thought I was throwing out the first bowling ball.

4. I grew up in the West End playing on concrete. Throwing on an actual field with grass and dirt threw me off.

3. Eric Davis’ red shoes blinded me.

2. My best sport is Putt-Putt.

1. Eric Davis missed the sign. I called for a pitchout.

LMAO!

I'm probably going to the game Friday, so expect the Reds to lose.

^Well I was planning on going to the game Friday night...maybe now I'll have to reconsider knowing that you're going and all.

Ink - stay home!!!!!!!!

Grasscat - absolutely hilarious!

And Randy, yeah, at least Mallory had a sense of humor about it!

^Jimmy Kimmel said he will have Mark Mallory on his show tonight (weds nite, thursday 1am) to throw some more balls.

That's fantastic...it is embarrassing, but the best way to dull that edge is to show that he's got a sense of humor about it...

From www.journal-news.com:

Cincinnati mayor to recreate pitch on Jimmy Kimmel Live

CINCINNATI — Mayor Mark Mallory, currently surrounded by media buzz because of his Opening Day pitch at the Cincinnati Reds game Monday, is expected to be on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight.  Mallory has been able to laugh and make light of the pitch amidst criticism.  He will do a "demo" on JKL, recreating the scene.

The Cincinnati mayor appeared on ESPN's "Cold Pizza" and also talked on Q102 this morning about the pitch and how he feels it is bringing some attention to the city.

Wow...this is kinda cool.  Sure it is embarrassing for him, but it is bringing publicity to the city...I'm sure he is getting some plugs in!  He has done a wonderful job at turning this into a positive...maybe the whole thing was planned!

I always like when people can laugh at themselves.

As you can imagine, I've become quite good at that myself!

I've become quite good at laughing at you too!

I'm a little concerned about the Kimmel appearance.  His attempts at humor thus far have not been very funny.

I've become quite good at laughing at you too!

Well, you do need something to laugh at, I'm sure DAAP is just a barrel of laughs! ;)

The Mayor was excellent on his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night...very funny!

Today's win gets me a free lunch tomorrow from our company's resident Cubs fan - woo hoo!

I know it's only a few games, but the Reds pitching is doing very well.  They won 6-1 tonight. Maybe spring training was not a fluke.

^ Shhhhhhhh......they might hear you.

The four starters thus far had a combined ERA of 2.39...WOW...obviously, we won't keep that up, but that is all the measure you need of how astonishingly well we've pitched so far.  Throw in the relievers and it drops to 1.94...again, WOW...

Any win predictions?  I say 90, 2nd in the nl central, losing the wildcard by a game and a half

94 wins, which will be 1st in the NL Central by 5 games...

It depends on dunn and the 3-5 starters.

Well, of course!  Also on the relievers and defense!  So, what's your guess?

Hmmm Maybe 91 wins and the wild card.I think we need a trade for a #3 starter though.

OMG. The road uniforms are just plain ugly.  :-(

We had a flat tire on Friday and never made it to the game. You'll notice they won.

By the way, Homemade now has a Reds ice cream flavor.

We had a flat tire on Friday and never made it to the game. You'll notice they won.

LOL - that's hilarious...sorry for your luck, though...
