Cincinnati Reds fans score as park to offer new dollar menu

Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Steve Watkins Staff Reporter

It might seem just like a fast-food restaurant when you walk into Great American Ball Park for a Reds game this season.  The Cincinnati Reds’ concessionaire is launching a value menu, offering a few food and drink items for a dollar.

Fans will be able to pay a buck for any of six items: hot dog, soda, peanuts, popcorn, ice cream or Redlegs Chew candy, Dierig said.  The items are smaller than the standard that sell for $3.50 or so.  For example, the hot dog is “one size smaller” than the standard dog, Dierig said.  It’s one-tenth of a pound, vs. the standard size that’s one-sixth of a pound and sells for $4.50 at the stadium.

  • It's perfect timing, really. The RNC should invite him to speak at next week's victimfest along with all the other people that have been cancelled faced consequences for their actions.

  • The part that's most annoying to me is he started his apology by saying "if" I offended anyone, which is immediately insincere. I also like that he said "I'm a man of faith" like that is a good thing.

SARASOTA, Fla. – Based on what Dusty Baker said Thursday, it would seem like a long shot that the Reds sign Gary Sheffield.  “I don’t know if we’re in the running or not,” Baker said. “He wants playing time.”

Baker sounded set on Chris Dickerson being the starting left fielder against right-hander pitchers.

“Probably not against (right-handers),” Baker said when asked about Sheffield’s potential playing time. “Dickerson’s coming quick. We’ve got (Jay) Bruce in right.  (Sheffield’s) not a center fielder. I’m not going to lie to him. He could spell Joey (Votto) sometime at first base, be my guy off the bench.”

Man I hope this doesn't happen. If they were that worried about having a bat they should've kept Keppinger.

No way they bring Sheffield in. Not only is he a complete jerk, he's also north of 40 and coming off a terrible year last year - sans 'roids.

Memo to anybody thinking about picking up Sheff: You don't get better at this age

He's getting $14,000,000 from Detroit not to play this year. Time to hang 'em up guy.

Mets signed Sheff. HA HA

Wow....he needs to be in the AL if he's anywhere.

I'm surprised they optioned Gomes to Louisville. McDonald is pretty much unproven in the majors and he won the spot.

Well the redlegs have gotten off to a good start on their long road trip. Edwin helped us beat the Brewers last night by hitting a grand slam and it looks as if we will win again tonight. It helps that Milwaukee's pitching sucks. Our bullpen has been doing extremely well and the starting pitching is starting to come around slowly.

Yeah, this was a good game.

I'm pumped up about this year. I feel good about it!

^You just jinxed us.  Seriously, I would kill for the Reds to even make it to the playoffs this year.

Yeah i know it about killed me watching Burton give up those runs. If we can get Hernandez and Gonzo to start hitting I can see the Reds going somewhere.

Went to my first game of the season today. New additions to the ballpark look great, including new scoreboard.  Love what they've done to 4192 club. Club seats are expensive (only here b/c I got them from work), but this year you get free food - Larosa's, montgomery inn pulled pork sandwiches, nacho's, hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream and drinks. Tons of kids running around eating themselves into oblivion, if you've got the jack this is the perfect place for kids.

Bronson didn't look so hot after his nice 3-0 start. Settled down a bit after his first 2 innings but did not look very good. I'm ready for the inevitable callup for Rosales. Kid is hitting .400+ at Louisville and this team needs offense.

This team aggravates the hell out of me. We blow sh!t up on the road (with pitching) ... come home and fall like a house of cards.

WTF is going on? Where does the change need to take place? Batting coach? Is it Dusty? Walt? Lack of payroll? What?

We have a stellar team. Let's play like it. BP, where are you???

we have a mediocre team that is still young, and we play like it

I attended both games against Atlanta and it was frustrating to see us constantly leaving players on 2nd and 3rd. Our batting rotation is all out of whack. Bruce is slowly coming around and Brandon Phillips can hardly hit anything. It was fun watching the benches clear last night and seeing Dusty and Hairston get thrown out today though. They have been tearing up the division so far so that's a plus. Hopefully they can start playing like they did on this past road trip. I'm all for bringing Rosales up from Louisville I just think their biggest problem is deciding who to send down.

Let's take off the red colored glasses. This is not a stellar team. Pitching is good to very good. Offense will be a struggle all season. You don't remove your most productive offensive player, hardly upgrade anywhere else, and get better. Votto and Bruce are the real deal. Outside of them? Phillips is a hitter who doesn't walk, and those guys absolutely KILL you when they're in a slump. Dickerson is too streaky. Bring up Rosales and put him in the outfield.

Yeah, "stellar" was a poor word choice. lol I drank a little bit yesterday while posting this. ;)

Wow 6 shutouts already. They had 6 all of last year.

The Reds have 3 legit #1 starters in their rotation.

The Reds have 3 legit #1 starters in their rotation.

Best ERA in the majors ... not after tonight though. :-/

Arroyo was definitely NOT one of the 3 I was talking about.

He's so damn frustrating.  He'll be unhittable for a couple of starts and then absolutely lose it. 9 earned runs in 1 inning of work....

I think the Cowboy said it:

He's either "Brons-ON"  or  "Brons-OFF"

Nice close win last nite tho.  9th: after a hard hit fly ball to lead off, Codero shut 'em down (I REFUSE to call him Co-Co)

They played an awesome game tonight. Our BP allowed 3 runs but our bats were lighting the Cards up all night. I was glad to see Nix getting the start over Dickerson and i hope it will be like that as long as he keeps producing. With Harang and Volquez pitching the next couple games its definitely possible to sweep the series if our bats continue to work. That would sure shake up the NL Central.

heck yea. if we can pull out the broom vs the division leading cards we'll be on a great roll. i cannot stress how much we need to make an addition of a big RBI guy to our roster, if our main guys cant play up to their potential. there is no room for error on our offense this year. our bullpen is very very good and our starters have been amazing and have unlimited potential (cueto, volquez, owings)- while you know what u get with harang and arroyo feeds off good energy.

8-3 reds. bottom of 7 right now

Man that was an awesome game tonight. They lit up Lohse.

The Reds do miss Dunn in the lineup. So far he headed to his best year ever. I'm glad we didn't pick up Mannie in the off season. But a power hitter in the line up will do wonders. I think the top 3 pitchers can finish 10 over .500 each.  If the last two (Arroyo and Grant) can pitch near .500 or just slightly below. You can print you playoff tickets.

Now that Phillips and Bruce is starting to hit I think the Reds will be just fine without a power hitter. They have been scoring runs when they need to and Dusty's makeshift lineup has surprised me. Hopefully Votto comes back as hot as he was before he got sick. If they continue to play the way they have been against St Louis then playoffs here we come.

Went to the game today. If there was a game that we should've won, it was this one. Very aggravating.

The Reds are playing like they're in contention lately. It's nice to see the bats come alive. 2 games back now!

We need the Cards to start losing.

Pitt is beating St Louis right now 4-1. Its only in the 5th inning so things could obviously change. The Reds are definitely showing some promise right now. I'd like to see Owings join the shutout club tonight. Votto is leading the NL in batting average and Bruce is 3rd in homers behind Dunn and Pujols.

Nice win again last night. They are on a roll. Besides the Milwaukee blow out last week they are on a huge tear.

Hmm dusty sucks as a manager.  He should have kept the same line up when Alex came off the DL but no.

Well Homer Bailey has already found his way back to AAA.  This might be the last opportunity he'll have at the big leagues for some time.

i just saw this one on failblog. when did this happen? this year?

Last year, there was actually a lot of talk about this on here.  Mayor Mallory got an appearance on ESPN's 1st & 10 and ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! show.

ahh i didn't think it was this year. it just recently came up on failblog, kind of odd.

The Reds beat St. Louis last night to go 4 games above .500 (27-23), 2 1/2 games behind NL Central leading Brewers and 1 1/2 games behind second place Cardinals.  This despite having to remove starter Edinson Volquez after he pitched the first inning.  Volquez was making his first start after a stint on the 15-day DL for back spasms.  After pitching a scoreless first inning, Volquez had "numbness in his fingers" and was removed.  A return to the DL seems likely.

Last week Joey Votto was placed on the 15-day DL for "stress related issues" after two weeks of dizziness possibly related to an inner ear infection.  Despite the loss of Volquez and Votto, the Reds have played well.  But how many injuries can the team take?

Red Win and the Cardinals lose... Talk about a double treat.

It was great to see unhappy Cubs fans all over town.  The wait was worth it.  Maloney looked in control, before he dropped of.  The Reds suddenly went blind and fell back into the non-hitting funk.

But Dickerson....even if he hasn't hit all year, how many runs has he saved this year?

This was total NL baseball.  Very entertaining tonight.

Some friends of mine who work for the Reds say MLB was really impressed with the performance and turnout for the Civil Rights game this weekend.    They are already thinking of having it here next year again.    We need to finish the Banks and get this streetcar going.  A 2012 All Star game is not all that far from reality either.

This was a good showing for the city this weekend!  Very positive feedback from MLB.  I'd love to know how the Freedom Center faired.
