May 26, 201510 yr It's amazing how slow Reds fans were to turn on Brian Price given Dusty Baker's much better performance, but now that that worm has turned, it's a full court press.
May 29, 201510 yr Some major improvements are either underway or soon to be underway (if approved) and scheduled to be complete before the All-Star Game... Reds, P&G adding huge second scoreboard at ballpark Lisa Benson - Cincinnati Business Courier Procter & Gamble Co. is sponsoring a huge second scoreboard to be added to Great American Ball Park, just in time for the All-Star Game. The 90'X30' Daktronics LED video board will be installed above the Sun/Moon Deck seats in right field, giving a clear line of sight to about 7,500 seats that now have an obstructed view of the current scoreboard. Cont Reds seek new LED screen outside stadium Sydney Murray, [email protected] The Reds hope to install a large LED video screen on the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum before the 86th MLB All-Star Game on July 14. If approved by the City Planning Commission on June 5, the screen would be used to promote the Reds, the Hall of Fame, the Reds Community Fund, the All-Star Game and establishments located within The Banks. Cincinnati Reds Chief Financial Officer Douglas Healy sent a letter May 19 to the city's Department of Architecture and Planning asking a special city ordinance approving the screen be passed. June 7, 201510 yr I have done seen it all!! Price yelled at his players on the field and in the dugout. Not in the locker room. wow
June 16, 20159 yr #SeasonOfInjuries (Reds Edition) continued... Bailey - Out for the season w/ Tommy John surgery Cozart - Season-ending knee surgery after stepping awkwardly on the first-base bag while tying to beat out a groundball Mesoraco - On-going hip strain; tried to rehab as LF but recently put on the DL (and likely headed for season-ending surgery) Byrd - Fractured wrist (15-day DL) Iglesias - Strained oblique (15-day DL) Cingrani - Strained throwing shoulder (15-day DL) And if that list wasn't bad enough, rookie starter Jon Moscot (who was replacing the injured Iglesias) dislocated his non-throwing shoulder while diving to apply a tag in last night's game at Detroit: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/13085584/cincinnati-reds-starter-jon-moscot-dislocates-shoulder-first-inning-detroit-tigers
June 16, 20159 yr That doesn't even mention the minor injuries other players suffered that sidelined them for several games. Multiple wrist injuries to Hamilton, turf toe and then groin injury for Phillips, elbow soreness for Cueto, etc. Luckily those haven't been longer injuries. Votto seems to be the only player who hasn't been injured this season.
June 30, 20159 yr Finally, and certainly thanks to the All-Star Game, the 2003 4,192 Bat/Ball Photo: is either coming down or being covered up. Here is what it looked like last week: "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

June 30, 20159 yr I was at the game last night. The new right field jumbotron is up. It's pretty big--at least as tall as the one in left field, I think, but not as wide.
July 2, 20159 yr Article states the video board is due to be installed July 6 but it arrived onsite today... HOW IT'S MADE: Huge Reds video board assembled in All-Star crunch Steve Watkins - Cincinnati Business Courier The Cincinnati Reds are pulling out all of the stops as they play host to this year’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game, even if it means getting big jobs done on short notice. LSI Industries Inc. got the purchase order from the Reds in early June to build a huge video board to go up above the Reds Hall of Fame, facing the bars and restaurants (and the street scene during All-Star Week) at the Banks. The only thing is, it had to be finished in a few weeks. LSI (Nasdaq: LYTS) was in the final assembly stage at its Blue Ash plant and headquarters on June 25, when CEO Dennis Wells took me and photographer Tom Uhlman on a tour of the facility to see the board being made. (Check out the slideshow at right for behind-the-scenes photos.) This behemoth is 19 feet high and 31 feet, 6 inches long. It’s so big that LSI is assembling it in two pieces. Those sections will be assembled late this week, lit up and tested over the weekend, Ross Sferra, LSI’s director of LED video displays, told me. July 27, 20159 yr With this deal done, lets now drop Bruce and Byrd. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
July 27, 20159 yr Byrd has almost no trade value and I believe his contract is up at the end of the year. I would be shocked if we re-signed him. Bruce could go and we might get a bit for him. He's been doing really well as of late. Hopefully we can hold on to him and his performance improves. Otherwise we need to unload him.
July 27, 20159 yr I'm anxious about Chapman. The Reds don't have to trade him this year, as he has another year left with the Reds. In my opinion they shouldn't trade him unless they get a spectacular offer, because he has a bit of intangible value in the aura he brings to the ballpark whenever he pitches. He puts butts in seats and wows the crowd, watching him pitch might be one of the few highlights left for the rest of the season.
July 28, 20159 yr I've seen chatter around Byrd. Time will tell... He has been pretty hot since his injury. The Reds got cash to take on his $8 million salary this year with an $8 million vesting option for 2016 that becomes guaranteed with 600 plate appearances in 2015. July 28, 20159 yr We think losing Cueto was bad... imagine being a Rockies fan and seeing the face of your organization, 30yo Troy Tulowitzki, being traded after 10 years (and a contract through 2020). Baseball is broken. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
July 31, 20159 yr Reds traded Mike Leake to the Giants for their #1 prospect RHP Keury Mella and infielder Adam Duvall (#14 prospect). Both are minor leagues right now. Pretty good haul for someone they would lose anyway. Reds have made some great trades for Cueto and Leake. Hopefully this is a sign that the Reds are ready to compete in a couple years for the division. Duvall plays 3B and 1B. So he better learn another position if he wants to see time in the pros. I think he might be used as a trade for someone else after the season. Interestingly, Duvall hit a home run off of Leake in his first career MLB appearance and second at bat.
August 7, 20159 yr http://www.wcpo.com/sports/baseball/reds/pete-rose-denies-statutory-rape-allegation-made-by-investigator-john-dowd I think Dowd has lost his mind. Under this assumption, this could actually end up benefiting Rose because it makes Dowd, a lawyer and presumably objective investigator, sound like a quack.
November 4, 20159 yr Reds ownership finally wakes from their post All-Star game nap: Reports on Twitter have Dick Williams promoted to GM and Walt Jocketty will remain as President of Baseball Operations. Yet to be updated: http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/team/front_office.jsp?c_id=cin "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
December 7, 20159 yr Report: Reds trade Aroldis Chapman to Dodgers FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Cincinnati Reds have traded relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two prospects. The deal is pending review of medical records, sources say. The four-time All-Star was 4-4 with a 1.63 ERA in 65 games last season, allowing just three home runs in 66 1/3 innings. In 2014, he allowed just one home run in 54 innings. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
December 7, 20159 yr It'll be sad not having Chapman to close games. He provided great energy. Hopefully the prospects are worthy of the trade. I assume they must be. I wonder if Chapman will be starting for the Dodgers. They already have a good closer on the team.
December 7, 20159 yr His arm is not prepared to start. It will take some years for his stamina to build up.
December 7, 20159 yr I think it's a good move. He will never be a starter for the Reds which is what they need him to be. He will be priced out of their range very soon as well.
December 7, 20159 yr ^ Exactly. It's sad to see the most exciting pitcher in the game go, but honestly I don't see why the Reds would spend that much money on a closer for one more year when they're probably only going to have a lead in the 9th inning about 60 times.
December 8, 20159 yr The deal has hung up because of a domestic incident. I'm not even sure if it has happened in the states.
December 16, 20159 yr Reds trade All-Star 3B Todd Frazier to White Sox Earlier this month at Redsfest, Todd Frazier said he talked to Bob Castellini and Walt Jocketty and told them he wanted to be a Red for life. Less than two weeks later, the All-Star third baseman is a member of the Chicago White Sox, as the Reds sent Frazier to Chicago in a three-team deal that brought three prospects — infielder Jose Peraza, outfielder Scott Schebler and outfielder/infielder Brandon Dixon — from the Dodgers to the Reds. The trade of Frazier is the latest in the Reds' continued attempt to rebuild the team that went to the playoffs three times in four seasons from 2010 to 2013, but has lost a combined 184 games over the last two seasons. Cont "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
December 16, 20159 yr They are doing this to unload other contracts Like Votto. Making them think they will always be a loser and they need to be with a winning organization. Just my opinion.
December 18, 20159 yr Multiple reports that Brandon Phillips and the Reds have worked out compensation for him to waive his 10-and-5 rights and will be traded to the Nationals. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
April 20, 20169 yr This is turning into a joke of a franchise. Stevenson's reward for winning 2 games in 2 great outings was to be demoted to AAA. Price needs to be fired ASAP.
April 20, 20169 yr ? They're trying to keep him from using up his team control before free agency during a lost season. That's a rational move for a franchise.
April 20, 20169 yr Come on Price is a disaster. Having Hoover as a closer?????? Batting Hamilton 9th???? Hurting starters by pitching them in relief 2 days after a start?????
May 20, 20169 yr They are painful to even listen to. This is the first year in a long time that I can remember turning the radio off before the end of the game, which I find myself doing all too frequently now. I'd rather sit in silence than listen to the trainwreck that is the Reds bullpen.
May 20, 20169 yr Come on Price is a disaster. Having Hoover as a closer?????? Batting Hamilton 9th???? Hurting starters by pitching them in relief 2 days after a start????? Yeah, where are the Dusty haters?
May 30, 20169 yr Reds now have the third worst record in all of baseball. Not looking like a good year for them.
May 30, 20169 yr Reds now have the third worst record in all of baseball. Not looking like a good year for them. Really? when did they ever look good ?The first week? lol They are on pace for 109 losses!!!!!
May 30, 20169 yr Reds now have the third worst record in all of baseball. Not looking like a good year for them. Really? when did they ever look good ?The first week? lol They are on pace for 109 losses!!!!! You're right, they suck. I just wanted to put emphasis on how bad of a season it was. I'm glad you get a good laugh out of it.
May 31, 20169 yr ^ They are on pace to be the worst Reds team of all time - edging out the 1934 squad that went 52-99 (.344) (Reds are currently .333).
May 31, 20169 yr Good news about a bad team: cheap tickets. I bought a pass that gets me into every Sunday-Thursday game in June and July. The pass costs $60 and covers 15 games.
July 6, 20168 yr Pete Rose is suing John Dowd for defamation. Down claimed that Rose engaged in sex with minors 12-14 during Spring Training as a player and as a manager. He presented no evidence, and the person he claims reported that to him denies the claims. Dowd conveniently made these statements as Rose was getting his first gig as an analyst for Fox Sports and as the commissioner was evaluating whether to let him back into baseball. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/16831410/pete-rose-files-defamation-lawsuit-john-dowd
September 30, 20168 yr This was the dumbest baseball event I've seen in a long time - a walk off that shouldn't have been. I think it trumps the playoff infield fly goof in Atlanta a few years back, another horrible moment of umpiring that helped the Cardinals. The Cardinals wouldn't have been eliminated from the race for the last wild card spot with a loss, but they would have been pretty close to it. http://www.espn.com/blog/st-louis-cardinals/post/_/id/2636/cardinals-are-in-a-receiving-mood-for-thursdays-gift-win Cardinals in receiving mood after gift win Yadier Molina's double shouldn't have scored Matt Carpenter. After it hit the Missouri Lottery sign above the left-field wall, it should have been a dead ball. At that moment, Carpenter wasn't even halfway between second and third, so he would have been sent back to third. But somehow third-base umpire Scott Barry didn't see it and neither did any of the other three umpires. By the time Cincinnati manager Bryan Price reached the umpires as they were headed off the field to their locker room, it was too late.
October 3, 20168 yr Luckily that didn't amount to anything in the end. The rule needs to be changed for next year. Only allowing 10 seconds to challenge a game ending play is ridiculous when you often have a minute or more to challenge every other play.
October 3, 20168 yr We did an informal U/O at the office based on Bovada's 70.5 win total back in April. Closest wins. I guessed 75. Guy who won guessed 72. Lowest guess was 57. Actual win total? 68.
October 3, 20168 yr I was down there yesterday at the Banks for the last game. It was a sad scene. Saw two street vendors saying their good-byes -- see 'ya next year.
