April 12, 201015 yr View aside, it was necessary to position the stadium like they did so that the main gate, front offices, walk-up ticket sales, and hall of fame were easily accessible to the street, DT, and the Riverfront Transit Center (which was intended to have a rail component(s) included). Any other sort of orientation would have completely alienated these amenities or necessitated a completely different design for the entire ballpark. If the Stadium faced Mt. Adams instead of the river the main entrance/ticket window would still be in the same place as it is under the current configuration. There is no rule that the main entrance has to be behind home plate. The main entrance to Coors Field in Denver, for example, is in left field.
April 15, 201015 yr the stadium is intended to be a haven, a place where fans watch professional baseball, not their surroundings. 25k on the river 81 times a year works for me, regardless of which direction they could or couldn't point the outfield. I believe you said recently that a basketball arena would be perfect for Broadway Commons. Why would an open-air baseball stadium not care about its views, but a closed basketball arena would be perfect up against Mount Adams? A basketball arena fits there b/c it supports downtown and OTR through the cold season. Having the stadium on the riverfront with an outdoor sport makes sense, regardless of where the view leads you. At the end of the day I'd rather see money trickle into OTR than enjoy fantastic views of Mt. Adams at a baseball game. The complaining about the view is insane to me, because if people thought Cincinnati was cool enough on its own, it wouldn't need a postcard-worthy view at a stadium to attract visitors. The view is already very nice!
April 16, 201015 yr Baseball season is almost two months longer than basketball season with more games played. Sounds like baseball is the better activity generator. Sorry, I'm just not seeing how your line of thinking makes sense. This is getting off topic. I can move this convo if you all wish to continue it, but it's all just retrospect now.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing how your line of thinking makes sense. This is getting off topic. I can move this convo if you all wish to continue it, but it's all just retrospect now. I'll make it simple for you. Cold weather + no arena attracting 12k a couple nights a week = struggles for downtown and OTR's entertainment district in the winter. Sunshine = more people downtown. No baseball on the river = no major draw at this point. It wouldn't be efficient to put a ballpark downtown and leave the river bare in the warm months. It wouldn't make sense to invest so heavily into the Banks if Reds Stadium wasn't there to ensure its visibility for six months.

Please remove the baseball stuff. :whip: This thread is about GAT @ QCS. This whole page is not devoted to QCS. And it's webcam! And CT's Flagpole! April 20, 201015 yr Volquez Suspended 50 Games. Im not sure what drugs he had. But they might as well activate him now so the suspension is over with.
April 20, 201015 yr He probably took something to help his injury. It sucks because the Reds will probably need him around the time he comes off the DL...especially with the way the SP has been.
April 21, 201015 yr Reds blow lead, recover to beat Dodgers By John Fay, Cincinnati Enquirer, April 20, 2010 CINCINNATI - In the end, it was a win. Not a pretty win. Not an easy win. But a win. The Reds squandered a six-run lead, then came back and scored two runs on Paul Janish’s two-out single in the eighth to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-9 Tuesday night before a crowd of 12,965 at Great American Ball Park.
May 13, 201015 yr The reds are coming off a 3 game sweep of the Pirates. They have won 5 in a row, and are only 1 game out of first place. The first place Cards are coming to town for 3 games this weekend, does anybody out there care?

The first place Cards are coming to town for 3 games this weekend, does anybody out there care? Yes. I will be going to their game on Wednesday, May 19 when they take on the lowly Braves in Atlanta.
May 13, 201015 yr Yeah, I've been following the Reds as much as I can (very rarely on TV out here). Go Reds! They need to keep playing how they're playing, and the Cards need to keep losing to teams like the Astros!
May 16, 201015 yr Great win tonight! Did I hear Castellini say that they are bringing a Reds Academy to Cincinnati?
May 17, 201015 yr Our pitching has really come around lets hope it stays that way! Complete games from Cueto, Bailey, and Arroyo within the past week.
May 21, 201015 yr Jeez, what a tough way for the Reds to lose a game. Box score from yesterday's game with the Braves. Braves get seven runs in ninth and a walk-off pinch-hit grand slam to win. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E CIN 0 8 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 9 13 4 ATL 0 0 1 0 2 0 0 0 7 10 10 1 Game recap and video from ESPN: Reds blow early eight-run lead, fall to Braves
May 21, 201015 yr Why he leave the picture in for the 9th after already pitching 3 inning and the other relief pictures needed work because the starters are completing game is BEYOND me. Just only one game but it's a reality check.
May 30, 201015 yr Man I agree with your previous post about leaving the pitcher in for 3 innings. Dusty makes some questionable calls sometimes. On the other hand the 1st place reds have the best record in the national league, 2nd best in MLB, and has the best batting average. 10 games over 500 for the first time in 4 years. Really exciting team. Hopefully the 12-2 blowout in front of a big crowd will draw more people to the games.
June 21, 201014 yr Definitely a surprise here... I was expecting 2 outta 3 and maybe even a sweep of Seattle (in our favor). :( The West has a spell cast on us.
June 22, 201014 yr The Reds have always seemed to play badly on their west coast trips. At least they broke the losing streak with a win last night at Oakland. Did you see the highlights of the wild finish to that game? The Reds lead 2-1 in the ninth and have Cordero in for the save. Cordero gives up a tying solo HR and the game goes to extra innings. In the 10th, the Reds get 4 runs on 3 HR's from Hernandez, Votto and Rolen. Game over right? Wrong. Cordero walks the first two batters in the 10th and two more pitchers are needed for the Reds to finally win 6-4.

Yeah, I watched the game ... with these ridiculous time zone differences, I can't wait until they get back home (or at least CST) lol ... If CoCo were to remain a Red for a few more years, I think everyone in Cincy would have heart complications. Maybe it's jet-lag?

I think the Cordero signing is right up there with Eric Milton for recent worst moves for the money. How many games has this guy blown or almost blown and is it better or worse than the league average?
June 27, 201014 yr The Redlegs have won 5 straight, and are currently a half game in first. Let's see if we can sweep the Indians and make it 6 in a row today! The best pro baseball team in Ohio is in Cincinnati (not saying much, I know)!
July 3, 201014 yr I feel good about the Mets series, but playing Philly in Philly might be a split or series lost. We caught the Phils when they were down and their line-up is All-Star caliber. If we were to win the Phils & Mets series + ridiculously tough schedule + no days off for an extended period of time = definitely playoff contenders. I cannot believe some people are still saying ..."it's still early." ... hell, statistically, we just pasted the half-way mark, meaning we ARE contenders! Fools ...
July 4, 201014 yr Wow what a rough day for Votto. 1. Not being picked for the allstargame. 2. Being mad about that, he got tossed from the game that ended his streak of reaching base at 41 games in a row.
July 4, 201014 yr Bad luck for Votto getting tossed after arguing that called third strike in the first inning. I think the ump was gonna let him go until he slammed down his batting helmet. But you know things are going well for the Reds when Votto's replacement, Paul Janish, goes 4 for 4 the rest of the way. Drew Stubbs hits three home runs. Even the awesomely mustached, but light hitting, backup catcher Corky Miller gets a HR as the Reds roll over the hapless Cubs. After 83 games, the Reds are still first in the Central. I'm starting to believe in this team.
July 4, 201014 yr If the Reds do go far this year I think Next years attendance will be 10k more per game.
July 5, 201014 yr http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2010/fv/ballot.html Vote Votto! And Konerko, one of my favorite former Reds!
July 6, 201014 yr VOTE FOR VOTTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^^^^ "Starting to believe?" lol Who else do they need to play to win you over? Were none of the series against a tough enough competitor?! Btw, just saw they're talking with Cliff Lee! If this were to get done, O ... M ... G!!! I'm stocked!
July 6, 201014 yr After Vottos 2 homers against the Mets tonight he leads the NL in homeruns. I'm going to be highly upset if he doesn't make the All Star. I really dont think Cliff Lee coming to cincy would be a good thing. We would have to give up too many good prospects. Our pitching roster is already loaded so there's really no need to go out and get Cliff Lee.

I say sign him for an extended period of time. Plus, this is the ONLY reason we have Alonso. No doubt ... if he can bring us closer to the WS - then pull the trigger now! Bray Rhodes Smith Masset Reds stats VS National League (hitting): AVG - 1st SLG - 1st OBP - 2nd HR - 1st RBI - 1st H's - 1st R's - 1st ^WFT^ ... Polish up our pitching and we go all the way baby!
July 6, 201014 yr After Vottos 2 homers against the Mets tonight he leads the NL in homeruns. Oh yeah ... after those 2 homers, Votto is tied for 1st in the MAJORS with Bautista.
July 6, 201014 yr You really ought to curb your enthusiasm there Cincinnatus. Let the season play itself out. MLB adopted a 162-game season long ago. Leading after 81 games doesn’t get you in the post-season. Leading after 120 games doesn’t get you in the post-season. Sometimes even winning 96 games doesn’t get you in the post-season (this happened in 1999). If the hitting holds up, if the pitching holds up and if there aren’t significant injuries, then the Reds have a great shot at getting in the playoffs. But the season is long and it’s not even close to the finish line. Support and root for the Reds - YES. Purchase non-refundable Reds playoffs tickets - NO.
July 6, 201014 yr This All-Star snub might turn out to be a blessing in disguise for both Votto and the Reds. If Votto had made the initial roster, he would have been noted and lost among all the other 33 players. By being snubbed - and being reported as the worst snub - Votto has received a ton of great individual attention. I've seen more positive national coverage about Votto and the Reds in the past two days then the rest of season combined. And if the story ends the way it should, Votto will make the All-Star squad anyway - by way of the final vote at mlb.com. From MLB.com: Votto, Swisher take early leads in Final Vote
July 6, 201014 yr Rider, I hear what you're saying, but I'll make a deal with you ... If you can prove statistically why the Reds aren't playoff contenders - I'll provide the opposite and we'll see who makes a better case. fair enough?
July 6, 201014 yr People around Cincinnati are too used to being let down to enjoy themselves. Get excited now! Even if the Reds tank you still had a few happy moments. I guarentee they'll be better than the moments of self congratulation if you're proved right when they miss the playoffs. Enjoy the ride Cincinnatus!
July 6, 201014 yr They have 2 good chances. Winning the division and wildcard. They are ahead in both.

Polish up our pitching and we go all the way baby! ha. the reds may go after lee... but there is no way they are signing him to a long term deal, so it would be a pretty risky move. Then again, I wished many times the tribe would have given up the farm to put themselves over the top. Lee is on record that he wants CC Sabathia money, 7 years $161m plus a $9m signing bonus. $25m / year. The cincinnati and cleveland's of MLB don't pay one player $25m a year. Lee is going to be wearing pinstripes next year.

If you can prove statistically why the Reds aren't playoff contenders - I'll provide the opposite and we'll see who makes a better case. fair enough? You must be reading something into my posts that isn't there. I've never said that the Reds aren't playoff contenders. They obviously are. I was simply pointing out that the MLB playoffs are probably the most difficult playoffs to qualify for. Lots of the very very good teams don't make the playoffs in a given year. And that the Reds current success might need to placed in the proper perspective. And so . . . aww screw it. If you want get your hopes up - go ahead. I'm sure your world won't come crashing down around your ears if the Reds happen to fall short. As was said earlier, "enjoy the ride".
July 7, 201014 yr WOW what a loss for STL. It Reminded me of the Braves loss in May. yeah, I have St. Louis scores set as an update txt to my phone and I thought that there might have been an error.

Here's something interesting to check out. When you have 3 minutes free of your time, look at the rest of the season and based on the 1st half of the season, try to predict the series ... come back and report what you see. I did this last night, because I was curious how it looked anyway and my prediction was pretty funny. On teams that had a slight disadvantage-to-better than Cincy, I gave them two outta three. On teams that are just horrible, I gave us two outta three. On 4-game series, I split it. ___________________________ McCleveland, I love Cliff Lee, always have. I like his style and pitching strengths. I also like what he has done on a team that is absolutely horrible and held the record for most come from behind losses. He can be a one man wrecking ball, imagine ridiculous offense behind him, mixed with the best defense in the NL??? Ahhhh ...
July 7, 201014 yr I've heard cliff lee is one of the worst people in a locker room in all of major league baseball. But there is no denying the guy is nails on the pitching mound. If cinci really thinks they have a shot this year it would be wise to grab him, just so long as they know he's a rental. He has now told the Indians, Phillies, and Mariners that he has absolutely no interest in extensions, that he is becoming a free agent and wants to be the highest paid pitcher in the game.
