This All-Star snub might turn out to be a blessing in disguise for both Votto and the Reds.  If Votto had made the initial roster, he would have been noted and lost among all the other 33 players.  By being snubbed - and being reported as the worst snub - Votto has received a ton of great individual attention.

I've seen more positive national coverage about Votto and the Reds in the past two days then the rest of season combined.  And if the story ends the way it should, Votto will make the All-Star squad anyway - by way of the final vote at mlb.com.

  • It's perfect timing, really. The RNC should invite him to speak at next week's victimfest along with all the other people that have been cancelled faced consequences for their actions.

  • The part that's most annoying to me is he started his apology by saying "if" I offended anyone, which is immediately insincere. I also like that he said "I'm a man of faith" like that is a good thing.

My god this team is so Jekyll and Hyde,

Yeah, tell me about it. It's so frustrating starting off the road trip on fire and then coming to Philly and lose-blow close games against a team who are crippled with injuries. At least we didn't lose good prospects in trading for a Cliff Lee rental. I would've been highly ticked.

As of right now what is everyones opinion on Dusty Baker? Should he come back next season or get the boot?

6 more outs of a perfect game.

Another bummer. They are still 2 up but the feeling is not good. They should have won all three games so far.  This team is missing something.

This team is missing something.

Yeah, now they think they're unstoppable now.

I know Leake wants a perfect game, but take him out after 3 runs were scored for God's sake ... I'm with you, we should've taken 3 minimum out of that 4 game series.

According to ESPN the Reds have the easiest remaining schedule out of all the teams in playoff contention. I'm anxious to see what kind of deals will go on between now and the trade deadline. With the crowded starting rotation I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them go for a reliever.

the dominican duo are baaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!! post season, here we come!!!!! ;)

^I'm thinking so too!!

if you had to chose? Lee or Volquez?

I'd definitely take Volquez over Lee.

For those thinking of seeing the Bravos this weekend - Saturday and Sunday are SRO, and tomorrow has only a small number of tickets left.

Nice weekend series for the Reds.  After an extra-inning loss on Friday, the Reds rebounded with two straight wins against the NL East leading Braves.  The whole series was close and well played by both teams.  It had a playoff feel to it.

The Reds/Cards series coming up will definitely have a playoff feel as well.

Jim Day said after the game tonight that the series was almost sold out! Exciting times.

Has the Reds ever had 6 straight sell outs?

Has the Reds ever had 6 straight sell outs?

I'm sure they have, but I'm sure it's been a while too.

How about those Reds?  Arroyo looked tough today - I cannot wait for next week's series with the Cardinals.  Going to the Tuesday game with great seats down the left field line.

Are you getting Reds Fever?  Then take two aspirin.

But seriously folks.  How about that sweep of the Cubs at Wrigley over the weekend!  That sweep combined with yesterday's rain-out of the Cards/Marlins game gives the Reds a two game lead over the Cardinals heading into this week's three game series with them.

Can any Cincinnati sports win the big games???

It's the schedule. Even a series against the Braves - we take 2 ... and you're telling me to chill that the season is still long (with lots of back-up).

I know, right? ... Did you or anyone else go to the game?

We went last night and sat in sec. 530. It was tough to sit through that. The excitement just came to a sobering halt in that 7-run inning. It was like making out with some girl and then her pops comes walking in on you.

I don't want to sound like a drama queen, but this is shocking to me ...

I'm glad to see a fire in pro-baseball players ... this is something football fans knock baseball fans for.

Brandon Phillips:

“I’d play against these guys on one leg,” Phillips told Hal McCoy, a columnist for the Dayton Daily News. “We have to beat these guys. All they do is b—- and moan about everything, all of them. They’re little b——s, all of them. I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear: I hate the Cardinals.”

Schumaker:

“Let them keep talking and we’ll see how it plays out.”

Whoa!

^ I thought it was awesome.  Now he needs to back it up, and the Reds need to win the series over the "Little B*tches" (St. Louis' new name for the rest of the season).

This is going to hurt. They can only blame themselves.

Rolen was awesome. It was like a rugby scrum. He moved, the whole group moved. He is one bad-a$$.

Heard LaRue got beat up. A Tea Bagger poster child vs an illegal. Sweet.

Now we just need to get back to winning.

Even if the Cards get a sweep i think the Reds will still come back on top as long as the west coast trip doesn't kill us.

The reailty is the Cards have been there and we haven't. Hopefully this series is just an experience to build on for the playoffs.

BUST!!

Ugh - I have never been a fan of smack talk - I mean really what is the purpose?  I guess it is fine for some fans (who probably never played the game) but not from players.  At least do more than 3 meaningless singles if you are going to say something.  Anyway, hopefully this will be a good learning experience for the entire team, and the Reds seem to play well against everyone except the Cardinals.

pretenders...

^ Awesome, right on cue.  I suppose I should list the World Championships, playoff appearances etc...I believe you belong in a different thread.  Very typical.

Try telling that to the Browns fans.....

Try telling that to the Browns fans.....

So we should expect more NFL championships in addition to the 4 they've already won??  I think your comment is more fitting for the Bengals, 0+0 = 0

I think you guys are in the wrong thread?

This thread is about Reds talk.  Currently, the Reds are one of the best teams in baseball so that’s what we’ve been talking about.  The thread I linked above is a great place to talk about how crappy the Browns are (or the Indians for that matter).

Tell that to AF Jim..

And I do support the Reds, since they're an Ohio team and are in the National League.  It's just hard to avoid the never-ending Browns bashing.

8Titles, you just helped to get the Columbus perception threads erased; please don't start creating problems in Cincinnati threads as well.

Reds show their inexperience in getting swept at home by my Cards.  Glad to see that Cueto earned himself seven games on the pine with his actions during the scrum.  Too bad Phillips didn't get a few games for starting the whole thing by running his mouth..

Yadier Molina started the whole brawl and should have been suspended.  Chris Carpenter should have gotten the same suspension as Cueto, but I guess getting slapped around like a red headed stepchild is enough of a punishment for him.  Maybe it will take him down a few notches, although he's so egotistical that he'll probably just be in denial about it.

And "your Cards?" It's no surprise your name here is "Clevelander," yet you have to root for the "Little B*tches," (as they are more commonly known now).  They surprised by sweeping the Reds, but they'll have to actually play with a bit of consistency the rest of the season if they expect to win the division.

Ol' DanB is all over the internets talking some smack! From today's ESPN article on the suspensions/fines:

DanB from Ohio (8/12/2010 at 4:44 PM)

"I cant believe how idiotic you people are..1st Phillips runs his mouth, then expects Molina to be cool being touched? Hell no. Then you have Rolen pushing Carp all the way back, and Cueto being a #### kicking his spikes..No need for that, if you want to jump in dont be using your spikes. The Cards are the best team in the NL and some pretenders such as the Reds will come back down to earth after this episode when the Cards get redhot. Division leaders? St Louis Cardinals..screw the Reds, lost all kinds of respect for the team just south of me..Cleveland has much more self respect then the Cincy Reds, joksters!"

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

No one has won anything yet this year. And the cards are not the best in the NL. It's the Padres.

You beat me to it, and I completely agree about both.  Carpenter decided to get in Baker's face, and that is when the fight really began.  Rolen took care of him nicely.  And the next time a player gets a suspension for talking about another team will quickly be the next time the player's union has it overturned - that's silly.

I'm happy that the Reds stuck up for themselves. I think its funny that Cueto of all people did the most damage. They may have gotten swept but i'm sure they will bounce back. Hopefully they will gain from the experience and be stronger in the post season.

Phillips ran his mouth and then tapped Molina on the shinguards before his at-bat.  There's no way anyone could possibly try to pin the brawl on Yadier.

And no, Carpenter knew better than to get too physical.  That's why he'll be making his next two starts and Cueto will be riding the pine.

The Cardinals are my favorite National League team, I go to several games each year.  Just saw them beat the Cubs on a Sunday night at Wrigley a few weeks back!

As for the Reds winning the division, we'll see about that.

I've told mom to stop posting!!

That person is at the very least a d-bag.  FYI, tapping the catcher is a ritual for Phillips.  Listen to Molina in his first interview after the game - he stated Phillips tried to say hi to him, and he said he did not want him saying hi after talking about his team like that - he then threw his tantrum.

what have the reds or bengals won lately?  anything since the 90's?

Tapping the shinpads is not something you do after you've run your mouth about how much you hate the other team.  Anyways, no worries, the Cards got the better end of it with Phillips looking like a fool as his team got swept and the scrum leading to #47 missing a few starts.
