February 4, 200817 yr I travel a lot on the weekends. There was a couple times last year that I just got mysteriously sick during my stay out a couple hotels. This really makes me wonder if I was a victim of this.
February 4, 200817 yr This is about the 10 report on the topic. Fox stations across the country have been investigating this. One fox station, IIRC Atlanta, showed a woman wash the toilet bowl with a rag, then sniff the rag as to see if it was "clean" then procede to wash the glasses in the bathroom. In addition, never use the duvet cover or the decorative pillow. By law hotels are suppose to change all linen in a room after each guest checks out, not just the sheets. However, the decorative pills on the bed are never changed. And it is across all brands, not just low budget hotels/motels. Never use the glasses!! If they only supply you with glasses, call the bar and ask them to give you for glasses - then go pick them up yourself.
February 5, 200817 yr Im skeptical of this stuff anyway, I mean, they have 3 hours to flip a room; of course they're going to be apathetic--those maids get paid close to minimum wage. Next time I rent a hotel I'm bringing a black light to A. call them out on their bs and B. to possibly get a free room. I hate how the news overreacts when it comes to germs though. Hell, I've slept on floors at friends houses all the time. I've drank creek water, going hiking. Our bodies are able to handle germs, it's when you live an extremely sterilized lifestyle that your body doesn't know how to fight it off.

February 5, 200817 yr I have to agree with you and David on that. As a kid, I always played in the dirt, the "dirty" creeks, rolled around in the grass with my long-haired dogs, climbed trees, and ... I still do that today. I rarely get sick, perhaps once a year, and they are relatively short -- that can be solved with a lot of green tea and herbals. But then I look at all of those that sit indoors all day -- breathing in the same recycled air, air pollution (indoor air pollution is often worse than what's outdoors), and not being mobile or active, which are all contributing factors to many ailments.

So, about 30 minutes per room. Here in SF the housekeeping staff is unionized and make decent money (over $16 per hour). I have worked in hospitality all of my adult life, so know that things could be better no matter how much you try. And, if you could see how people leave hotel rooms it would honestly make you sick. The stories I could tell...... That being said, I never use the glasses in hotels either.
February 5, 200817 yr I meant the room itself has 3 hours to be cleaned (in a perfect world of full occupancy). 30 minutes?! That's crazy. Last year during spring break one of the guys we were with vomited all over the place. The maid came in and I told her HE is cleaning it up. So she handed him the supplies. No one should have to clean up those chunks except the dumb@ss that drank beer after liquor; I don't care how much money they make. I have a tendency to impose morals on people :drunk:
February 5, 200817 yr I clean the hotel before I leave. At least I pick up and leave things in a nice little pile. I NEVER leave a hotel "partied out". Actually, I don't think I've ever even partied in my room. I usually do that in someone else's room and make it their problem.

February 5, 200817 yr The stories I could tell...... That being said, I never use the glasses in hotels either. I stayed at the Hotel Grande Bretagne for some pre Olympic meetings. I can't begin to tell you what I found in the bed!
February 5, 200817 yr You don't need to travel far to find problems with your room. I brought a relatively large business meeting to Cleveland last fall to one of our downtown hotels here (shall remain nameless) so I could at least give business to the property, a local caterer (for the offsite dinner) and the offsite dinner venue. My toilet had something wrong with it and after I complained a total of 7 times (after each complaint they reported back that it was fixed, but it wasn't) and a sleepless night due to the noise from the broken toilet, I asked to be moved. They moved me to a new room and I was so exhausted that I almost threw myself into the bed. Except when I went to get into it, my toe touched something just at the edge of the bed on the floor. An empty condom wrapper. And the heat didn't work in the outer room. And there was no menu for room service, which I wanted to order. Nice.

It cleans the skin as well as your pancreas. I drink 8 fl ounces per day and I'm fine....cough....gasp....wheeze...perfectly fine.
