It's called sarcasm. Remember when you jumped down my throat over the exact same incident? :P

Are you and DanB the same person...because I didn't get the memo that you are now talking for him.

Actually Randy, I have no preference over the terminology. But to say that a trolley has some sort of a derogatory connection is nothing more than original research -- there are no facts, no valid assertions to prove that. When I hear the word "trolley," I have visions of a modern trolley system similar to those in Europe and in Tampa. When I hear the word "streetcar," I have the same visions.

Trolley: In railway terms: Self-propelled, electric passenger cars that typically ran on city streets, rather than between cities and towns, like Interurbans.

Streetcar (1): a wheeled vehicle that runs on rails and is propelled by electricity; "`tram' and `tramcar' are British terms"

Streetcar (2): A tram, tramcar, trolley, trolley car, streetcar, or light rail vehicle is a railborne vehicle, lighter than a train, designed for the transport of passengers (and/or, very occasionally, freight) within, close to, or between villages, towns and/or cities. ...

There is very little or no difference in operational definitions. It's all based upon user preference, and to say that the use of the word "trolley" has some inferior connection is unfounded.

No, I'm just tired of the b*tching that goes on. People whine and complain about people using the word trolley on here. People whine and complain about NKY getting all the good projects, muesums, etc. People whine and complain about Bush f$&king us over. People whine and complain about automobiles screwing over light rail or streetcar/trolley. And etc. While some are valid concerns and complaints, many are based solely upon personal opinion -- and as we have seen in one thread today already (not this one), they degrade to petty personal attacks (and this is not pointed at you at all Randy). If we can only learn to accept other people's viewpoints for what they are -- viewpoints and opinions -- and learn that not every reader, user, or resident, whether they live in Cincinnati or out in the far-flung suburbs, have valid concerns.

Not everyone will be sharing your ideals Randy. Or mine. Or Dan's. And that's perfectly acceptable and warranted -- and really needed. Would you want to visit a forum that is 100% pro-Cincinnati? Or 100% pro-streetcar/trolley?

I understand that...and I do embrace that (whether you or DanB wish to believe it).  My entire family has opposite viewpoints from me...do I think they are wrong, stupid, or inferior - no.  I simply want people to have a solid foundation behind what they believe if they are going to so feverishly believe it.

That is the approach I take...and I don't think it is wrong of me to expect the same from others.  If you're going to say I think the trolley is a dumb idea...then come with some hard evidence as to why you believe this.  The same thing goes for people who say President Bush is an idiot...whether I personally agree with you or not - you should have some sound reasoning as to why you believe this.

Of course its easier for someone to overlook another's stance if it falls in line with there own...maybe that's because they assume the other person is using the same or similar logic as them.  Either way, I just think that unnecessary pessimism/skepticism is what is and always held back our great city.  I for one am ready for a change.

There's no reasoning if it's true.  I'm sure even hardcore Republicans can agree to that.

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

but who is to define reason?  I use reason and see a clear difference between a streetcar and a trolley.  Seicer uses it and doesnt, even if his avatar is claiming that to be a toy streetcar and a toy trolley, since apparently they are the same.  Since when did the streetcar Cincy is building have wheels?  If you're going to complain about people complaining, then stop giving us things to complain about.

LOL  :yap: quit complaining then.  Trolley/streetcar it's all good!  The PCC car is one of my alltime faves.  Mr rogers trolley?  I would ride it, Bring it!

Ahh,   *DETOUR  DETOUR*     let's not go down this road!

Streetcar/ Trolley - Either one is fine by me.

The only thing I have to complain about  is Thru trucks entering our great city.  I won't be happy till all thru trucks are diverted onto 275.

Once again, you are making a mountain out of a molehill. I have _never_ stated that I wish for a "trolley"; I have been a full proponent of the current trolley/streetcar system that is in place, and for light-rail. But I feel that there is no operational difference in the terminology, given that it is well cited that both terms are interchangable, and that the only tension that arises from the terms is based upon original thoughts and research -- things that have not been proven or verified. In other words, pure speculative opinion.

I put in the avatar to insert some humor. This board, at times, is way too stale. Too many people take something as stupid as terminology too seriously -- and as has been demonstrated today, they will go at lengths to provoke a flamewar -- as was noted earlier. Who f$&king cares if it has wheels. Or if it is red and cartoony.

I hoped that my avatar would be along the same lines as my Spongebob Squarepants avatar, but no. Too many tightwads :P

Being stuck up here in Canada brings out the best in you!  Drinking and stirring up the boys on UO are all that get me through the long cold nights!  :-D

You have said this before, that you come on here to stir things up.  Isn't that EXTREMELY immature and rather ignorant?  I'll admit to my immaturities and name calling, but I feel as though I was simply going to your level.

I was just going to say - it seems like a lot of people around here could use a drink or some action - or both.

And yes, I need a drink, maybe 12.  This school quarter has been hell for me....  ugh.  Undergrad was stressful, but Grad school in DAAP is on another level.

"Drinking and stirring up the boys on UO are all that get me through the long cold nights!"

I thought you were agains.... well, I guess we do have that effect on you ;)

It may be immature, but life is far too difficult to be serious all the time.  I like to find humor in anything and everything.  I'd rather make a joke and get people laughing during a meeting rather than everyone being serious about toilet paper upgrades.  Fine, call it immature, but I don't see anything ignorant about it.

I've gone from quoting Judy Garland song lyrics, to euphemisms!  What's next show tunes?  Besides, have you seen the Canadian women?  :wink2:  Great, that should start something...........

Am I the only consistently positive person in Cincinnati?

Did I click and get the wrong thread? :-P

Please, trains are a sensitive issue here in Cincinnati.  Please, no wrecks!  :-D

Trains? You mean trolleys? Streetcars? Light rail?

It is quite amusing.

Can we get one of these for Cleveland?

When we figure out what to call it we'll be happy to send you one. I like my green and yellow but I'll take Seicer's red and yellow one's.

I think the thread should be retitled "Tenuously Cincinnati-Related Pent Up Personal Gripes and Venting for Public Viewing".  And I was kidding, please don't send us one.

DanB, I think you don't understand the meaning of a joke and of humor in general.  In order for it to be funny the receiver of it has to laugh...*silence*  *Crickets*

See, no laughter, thus youre not funny.  Try something else to arouse us boring, lame, Urban Ohio folk.

^^No. So help me, god I will take down this entire forum...

Now...now Maleficent, play nice! Only good is accepted here.  Thank you.

That requires, "drinking and stirring up the UO boys."

i thought at first you said stripping instead of stirring.  you piqued my interest then lost it.

Here's what I say to that!

Oh...You wanna play!

Doesn't stirring require stripping first?

STOP!!!!  All visual images I don't need stuck in my head!!!!!

(Not that there is anything wrong with it)

.

MayDay, sweetie, I'll let you handle that one.

You have a way of misinterpreting things. Your Starbucks dripper must not come with a remote control. Lack of caffeine is making you irritable

It is not the same as light rail. It is not used for long commutes. It does not travel all over the region. It is not as expensive. It is not a trolley.
