Hey Guys,

I once again forgot about Valentine's day and now its only 2 days away. So the only thing I could think of is going up to the beach and watching the moon over the water, WHILE STAYING IN THE WARM CAR!!!

My ? is where is a good place that I can park and still be REALLY close to the shore?

Any suggestions would really help. THANKS

Mentor Headlands?

Though I'm not all that familiar with the Headlands, my impressions from being there are that it's hard to see the lake from any of the parking lots because of all of the trees and the dunes.

I know there's a parking lot at Edgewater that's really, really close to the water- it's the smaller one north of the main parking lot.  You'd probably get really good views there.

EDIT:  This just struck me- there's also a parking lot on Lake Rd. (and Cahoon?  Dover Center?) in Bay Village (east of Huntington, but not one of the park's parking lots.)  It's on a bluff overlooking the lake.

I don't know if he/she wants to stay around Cleveland but the Catawba peninsula area (Marblehead in particular) you can see the shore from the car.

yeah the state park on catawba has nice views. great place to camp out in summer too.

in clev edgewater would be easiest and have the very best views. huntington is fine too. further west in lorain there are two lakefront city parks that have even better views than huntington, century park on the east side and lakeview park on the west. lakeview park is large and you can walk down to the water and along the boardwalk if you want.

Edgewater Park, make your first left once you enter the park for the lot overlooking the lake and skyline. Huntington has some good views but I don't recall any lots to park with great views of the lakeshore (without having to get out of the car at least).

EDIT: ^ Assuming you're entering from West Blvd.

Will the angle of the moon vs. the lake work for those of us on the south shore of Lake Erie?

If you plan to go to Edgewater Park and get romantic in the car, don't be surprised if you get a visit from the state park rangers and their pesky flashlight. shifty.gif

If you're on the east side, I believe there's a parking lot right on the edge of the Lake in Fairport Harbor...although don't count on anything else to do there, really.  I can't think of much else east of downtown where there would be access for a car to get close to the water unless you go all the way to Geneva (a couple beautiful stretches along SR 531 between Geneva-on-the-Lake and Saybrook Township) or Ashtabula (Walnut Beach, Ashtabula Harbor, Lakefront Park).  West of downtown Edgewater or Huntington is probably your best bet, but I can't guarantee you as much privacy there.   Does anyone know about Huron or Vermillion, I seem to remember some waterfront lots in Huron, and I've never spent much time in Vermilion.

There are the lagoons in Vermilion, but those aren't open lake, and the only beach that I know of is the Main Street Beach, which, while nice, has a big deck between the parking lot and the water.  Besides that, I'm not sure about lake access.  An aside about Vermilion, though- the Harbor Town area is really cute and quaint, especially in the summer.  It might be worth walking around in daylight sometime.

Blah blah blah.

I'm celebrating Single Person Awareness Day tomorrow.
