February 27, 200817 yr Did anyone here register Democrat in the primaries just to vote against a particular candidate? I know of quite a few people who are leaning towards McCain but registered Democrat to help Barack beat Hillary.
February 27, 200817 yr ^I know several people in the Cleveland area who are planning to cast their vote to Obama just to stop Hillary.
February 27, 200817 yr Punch, they only showed the outside of the Wolstien Center from Prospect, and that was it. No panning shots of the skyline (dammit they should have, but oh well). But there were a couple mentions of Cleveland and other cities in Ohio from both the candidates.

But there were a couple mentions of Cleveland and other cities in Ohio from both the candidates. NBC Nightly news showed two shots on Monday night's broadcast. One was from the west bank and one from the south somewhere in the flats. It looked nice but it was obviously stock footage.
February 27, 200817 yr It was almost as if they forgot where they were........ In that they were saying things like "NAFTA has done alot of damage to upstate NY, or Youngstown or even Toledo". Im thinking.... hmmm your in one of the best examples of a city that has lost factory jobs..... It's called Cleveland (Oh, and the mayor is Frank Jackson, not Johnson)
February 27, 200817 yr Wow you people are really down on Hillary.... I thought Obama was certainly not as messiah like in a debate setting (which I think says a little (as they said not being in front of a teleprompter, is he a bit out of sorts) I thought McCain supporters were supposed to be voting for Hillary in the primary since she is less likely than Obama to beat McCain in an election?
February 27, 200817 yr yes you are correct. the strategy of voting for the other party is to spoil a primary. The republicans would vote for Hillary as polls show Obama can beat McCain. They have nothing to lose as McCain is obviously the Repub nominee. What I do not know is how long it takes to change parties so that you may be a spoiler
February 27, 200817 yr Someone as young as you could be confused and mistake Chevy Chase for Dan Ackroyd! :wink2: "landshark"

They always ask me if I want the Dem or Rep ticket.
February 27, 200817 yr I thought you had to be registered in the party you voted in? If not that is ok too b/c the indies and swing voters like O
February 27, 200817 yr Well I wonder what happens if this comes down to the wire. How will the Super Delegates vote? February 28, 200817 yr some of those are very pledged. Is that the total SD's in oH? "pledged" which ones. STJ's is the only delegate I can see pledged. Ohio has a total of 18.
February 28, 200817 yr Today Obama mouthed off about Afghanistan. He has a twisted view of the world. He said Al-Qaida was not in Iraq until George Bush invaded it. That is not true.

Ted Strickland is soooooooo pledged. To Hils'. He was gushing over her last night. I was not around UO last major election. For no reason in particular, did it bring out the loons?
February 28, 200817 yr Ted Strickland is soooooooo pledged. To Hils'. He was gushing over her last night. I was not around UO last major election. For no reason in particular, did it bring out the loons? I'm not sure the Governor would stick with her. Well we know this is NOT cleveland.com. So the infrequent "thread specific" lobbyist are obvious. Our mods will shut them down. Remember posting on UrbanOhio is a privilege not a right...or what ever the HBIC says. (insert scary photo)
February 28, 200817 yr lorain got a shoutout from hil in her first few remarks  i saw hillary was at admiral king hs giving a speech earlier in the day. obama was in lo-rain sunday too.
February 28, 200817 yr Obamas HQ is directly across the street from one of Daytons old school gay bars. I stopped in last weekend (to the bar) and asked if any of the Obama vols had stopped in for a drink..the bartender said "no, but they are taking all the parking spaces")(Dayton has metered parking, but its free after 6 & on weekends, which is when this place does its business). We all had a good laugh about that!
February 28, 200817 yr Someone snapped a photo of Hillary Clinton at Cincinnati State University and added a photo of Hitler for comparison:
March 3, 200817 yr Well, I WAS interested in Obama but the obama door knockers have annoyed me to the point where I will never vote for him. 4 times in 1 days???!! :x
March 3, 200817 yr ^Any Hillary door hangars? Me neither. I think the problem is that they have had too many volunteers. They are attempting to have 1 million canvassers out this week, and many prefer to canvass near their home, thus the city is getting overwhelmed. This is the first time I have ever gotten a campaign volunteer to come directly to my door in OTR.
March 3, 200817 yr Well, I WAS interested in Obama but the obama door knockers have annoyed me to the point where I will never vote for him. 4 times in 1 days???!! :x Not voting on someone just because they have jubilant volunteers? I really hope that's not the only reason why. That's like not wanting a cancer cure just because it taste like raspberry. ;-)
March 3, 200817 yr March 3, 2008 Should Clinton drop out if she loses Texas & Ohio? Posted: 01:42 PM ET FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty: There’s a growing number of voices saying Hillary Clinton should get out of the race unless she can deliver big victories tomorrow in Texas and Ohio. Article Removed
March 3, 200817 yr If she loses both Ohio and Texas, yes she should drop out. Unfortunately, I think she will win Ohio and stay in the race until at least Pennsylvania, maybe longer.
March 4, 200817 yr Not voting on someone just because they have jubilant volunteers? I really hope that's not the only reason why yup thats the only reason! I am a little antisocial when it comes to getting bothered at home by people knocking on my door, and the telephone ringing. I got rid of my landline and life has been good. These guys :whip: woke up my son during his naps in the morning and afternoon, I therefore decided to vote on an issues only ballot.
March 4, 200817 yr In the very early days of this campaign, I never thought Hillary would get as far as being front runner for most of the race. Democrats I knew were certainly not all excited for her. The most talk I ever heard was from Republicans at the water cooler who I never wanted to hear from and dumbs-t republicans on those 24 hour news channels. I thought Hillary was a cold fish. Yuk! But she surprised me in a big way. I thought she was incredibly appealing. Someone coached her in a speaking style that was confident and warm. Even in these last few weeks with Obama's incredible run, she has maintained her composure and charm. So it wasn't just the strident Republicans yakking about Hillary for president.
March 5, 200817 yr as the hillary jokes and pics have piled up i've been wondering if we were gonna see something like this, but i figured it would be from some rednecks. nope not them. so have a look at what this israeli clothes designer/shop owner has up in his lower east side boutique -- and fyi the small print is apparantly an ad for his shop :whip: http://racked.com/archives/2008/03/03/shock_who_killed_obama_top_in.php
March 5, 200817 yr Interesting exit polls http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/epolls/#OHDEM
March 5, 200817 yr How come I never get asked questions for an exit poll. Where are these people? :) I hear, they're affraid you might injure yourself. lol
March 5, 200817 yr Apparently the results of this poll reflect the fact that this forum isn't made up of middle-aged fat women, the demographic that I think really put her over the top in Ohio.

March 5, 200817 yr Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus and Cleveland all went for Obama. What happened to that liberal mecca Toledo?!? But yes, Cincinnati was certainly good for Obama...he won 70+% of the city voters and 60+% of the entire county.
March 5, 200817 yr What put Clinton over the top was NE Ohio outside of Cuyahoga County. And possibly Republicans.

Nice. :x Yeah, I'm really loving the misogyny - especially from Democrats. We bruise our daughters when we bash Hillary Clinton Connie Schultz Tuesday, February 12, 2008 Connie Schultz Plain Dealer Columnist When I was 11 years old, my girl friends and I used to talk long into the night about how one of us was bound to become president of the United States. We had no reason to believe that, except that we were young girls watching and learning from the chaos swirling around us. It was 1968, and the change blowing across the country was kicking up quite a breeze in our own small Ohio town. March 5, 200817 yr Last night's results have confirmed what I was afraid of... Urban Ohio members are not a representative sample of the Ohio population. I wonder how close we are to a representative sample of the urban Ohio population?
March 5, 200817 yr ^go to cnn.com check out the break down of the results by state, then by county, demographics--age, race, gender. its really good. click on "What happened" then choose a state from last night
March 5, 200817 yr ^the same data is on the NY Times site, but has some more interesting presentation. http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/results/states/OH.html Click on the Margin of Victory tab to really get a good representation of the county by county results. Now if someone would just do the same thing for congressional districts.
March 5, 200817 yr Last night's results have confirmed what I was afraid of... Urban Ohio members are not a representative sample of the Ohio population. I wonder how close we are to a representative sample of the urban Ohio population? Of course. Make a website and call it RuralOhio and I guarantee that it would be dead on. Not to knock on rural areas, but it really goes to show that farmers and small town folk do not really care what happens in the big cities. This is why Bush won Ohio the past 2 elections. Same thing with Texas. Check out the county by county vote breakdowns, http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#OH http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#TX
March 5, 200817 yr ^^ Being most forum members live in the urban areas I'm not surprised: also, those counties that Obama won, have a heavy influence of Black voters, compared to the rest of the state's counties.
March 5, 200817 yr ^^ Being most forum members live in the urban areas I'm not surprised: Yeah but its 4 to 1 on here? And most of us on here are white, but I guess not older women. Which as Ive stated I was shocked about in the elections thread (the overwhelming unquestionable support for Obama with little reason given behind it) as well as surprised that I had not seen dialogue on here comparing things like urban policy or answers to Frank Jacksons letter.... I did look here for convincing of why I should support Obama, but all I found was Hillary bashing and little substance (which I guess does somewhat compare with the campaign as well as the mainstream public (which I didn't think were the people on here)
March 5, 200817 yr I think it's awfully dismissive to just write people off as stupid or uncaring or fat or whatever adjective you want to use just because they didn't vote for the candidate you wanted. I am not an Obama supporter but have said all along if he gets the nomination, I'll of course get behind him and support him. If Hillary had not won the states she won last night and people had turned out in droves to overwhelmingly vote for Obama, then they wouldn't be "stupid" or "fat" or "uncaring?" Come on. If they HAD done that, I wouldn't be characterizing all his supporters and stupid or uncaring. People voted for whom they wanted to vote for, whatever their reasons. You don't have to like it but writing everyone off who voted for her as an uncaring fat hick is really inaccurate.
