In Cleveland:

1) Superior Viaduct. The edge of the Cleveland universe. It is a jaw dropping panorama of buildings, industry, bridges, river and lake. Planes, trains and boats abound. The views are beautiful before the storm, after the storm, in morning and afternoon light, and perhap most in darkness with DT lit up. It is a snow globe on calm , still, snowy nights; a place to lay out a blanket in the summer and soak up the sun while reading the Sunday paper.

 

2) Westside Market. great food, atmoshere and service. I like getting the neighborhood gossip, and visiting my "boyfriends"  :wink: at various stands/ shops.

 

3) Rock  Bottom brewery to pick up Growlers to-go, to be enjoyed on #1.

 

4) With regard to food and drink-Much more fickle from here on out, too many to mention:

currently Bier Markt Bar Centro, Tremont Tap House, Lolita, Hooples, Asia Town,  and sometimes VTR, Flying Fig, Great Lakes.  This also makes me think Lucky's, Lincoln Park pub and Prosperity are way over due for a visit

 

5) where ever the scooter gang is riding.

 

6) Metroparks and Cuyahoga National Valley.

 

7) interesting festivals. Favorites include Ingenuity, International Film fest,  Burning River Fest,Anything downtown or close in (OC home tour, Warehouse district tour,Taste of Tremont etc)

When the weather is decent, I'm biking down on the Towpath 3-4 nights a week.  Although I don't spend a lot of time there, I've been going to the South Brooklyn Branch of the Cleveland Public Library, mainly for new music.  I go to the Lincoln Park Pub in Tremont almost every weekend.

Every few months I'll go to Clifton Diner or Starbucks just to get out of the condo. I get carryout sometimes from Peppers Cafe. Otherwise, I hate going out by myself and just sitting there pretending to read the paper while I wait for my food.

I really love hanging out anywhere that has amazing art. In NYC, it's MoMA, the Met, the Chelsea gallery district. In Cleveland, it's Spaces and MOCA (haven't been to CMA in years, unfortunately.)

I admit I don't do a lot of hanging out either.  I'd rather hang out at home.  However, here's a short list of places I enjoy being when away from home (Cleveland & surrounding areas):

 

Westside Market (always good conversation with strangers in the upper level/observation deck, also at the bar in the cafe)

Metroparks (rocky river reservation and mill stream run reservation, bridle path)

Cuyahoga Valley park system (I can't remember what the proper name of this park system is, but it's my favorite place to hike and picnic)

Huntington Beach (Bay Village)

Sounds like me...I don't go just to "hang out".  If I go out its for a purpose, like going to the downtown library to do research or to bar to hear a band play.  In that case it seems like the geneology/history department of the downtown library and the Oregon Express or Canal Street Tavern, if someone is playing that I want to hear, are about the only places I go to.

 

If Im out taking pix of the city I will stop in that Pacchia coffee shop, but thats take-out, as I dont stay after getting my order.

Really? In my single days, I was happy to grab my favorite magazine and head out to wherever I felt like grabbing a bite. Between people-watching and reading, it was just nice to soak up the atmosphere. A few servers even said "you're just here by yourself? That's pretty brave." but I just thought there's nothing brave about it, I just wanted out of the house. At work, I always grab lunch out, and almost always eat on my own.

Sounds like me...I don't go just to "hang out".

 

I used to go out and a get a beer at least a couple times a week from the mid-80s to the mid-90s, but then I began drinking way too much and couldn't afford to go out drinking anymore, so I stayed at home and drank. I quit drinking in 2003 and don't enjoy going out by myself anymore. I do go out with friends sometimes and I enjoy that, but I think they feel uncomfortable drinking around me so I don't get invited out very much.

My buddy and I were in Cincy tonight for the Cyclones game. I noticed a few people mentioned Rock Bottom so we decided to go there and try some of the beer. Turned out to be pretty awesome. Then we watched the broom ball championship outside and laughed at the announcers damn near the whole time.

I guess I'm all about going to different places so I don't have many I'm always there type of places.

How is the Char Bar?  I've seen it and it looks interesting but never been inside of it.  I personally love The Elevator Bar.

It's a great "last call" sort of place. Definitely one of the better "neighborhood joints" near the Arena. Nice jukebox selection. Some dartboards and a pooltable. Nice people watching from the front windows and a decent patio out back with a nice view straight up at Nationwide One, although it's pretty smokey on the patio since the ban.

 

They also have a basement that used to be the main-floor at street level before the High Street bridge was installed over the train tracks. I've heard that the basement is also haunted. It's pretty creepy down there. Old broken piano in the corner.

 

The men's bathroom also has a big chalkboard over the urinals, which makes for some interesting scribblings by the end of the night.

 

And the number one reason to go to The Char Bar.... THE LONG ISLANDS. Many people say they're the best in the city. They're $8, but served in tall glasses. If you're already a little tipsy, just one will get you hammered. Two Long Islands and you won't remember what happened the next morning.

 

Needless to say, it's not one of my DAILY hangouts, but a fun spot to hit with a good group of friends. ;)

Agreed. . . Probably the best bars to just "chill" around Campus

 

I Also like hanging out on campus. I think i am one of the few people that actually take advantage of Campus Green as a place to just Chill. . . I never see anyone out there. . .

The service at Macs is terrible! Just terrible. But the people who go there give it a nice vibe, especially on busy nights. I've never been to Christy's.
