Posted February 15, 200817 yr And Shaw's band will play in China Friday, February 15, 2008 Connie Schultz Plain Dealer Columnist Donshon Wilson picked up his ringing phone on the morning of Monday, Jan. 28, and heard an excited voice on the line. "You've got to get to the treasurer's office right away," an East Cleveland school administrator said. No sooner had he hung up the phone when it rang again. February 15, 200817 yr to put this in perspective, here is the first article: FINDING HOPE IN EAST CLEVELAND Shaw High School marching band invited to China Friday, January 25, 2008 Connie Schultz Plain Dealer Columnist http://www.cleveland.com/printer/printer.ssf?/base/living-0/1201253560124200.xml&coll=2 Sometimes, at the beginning of another practice for Shaw High School's marching band, director Donshon Wilson stands in front of his students and just stares at them. They stand, too, silent and still. Waiting. Usually, one of them will finally ask, "Why are you staring at us, Mr. Wilson?" They know the answer, but they want to hear it again. "Because you made it," he tells them. "You aren't out there doing drugs. You aren't out there with the gangs. You came here to play music, to be a part of this band." For most of them, it's not likely that they often get to travel, much less abroad. I *still* vividly remember my first band trip - to NYC and I can only imagine how amazing this will be for them. :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
