Hmm...apparently this is what they're building in German Village--a gated community.  Info is from Columbus RetroMetro, 4/27/05.  More can be seen on the link at the bottom of the story:

Treetops at German Village Unveiled

(Columbus, Ohio) April 27, 2005 --  A European style courtyard, private parking garages and historic renovation combined with new build construction accent some of the unique attributes of Treetops at German Village.  Developers John and Susan Rosenberger unveiled the detail today to this unique complex already under construction, as well as the Web site (www.treetopsatgermanvillage.com) complete with an aerial animation of the property.

Treetops is an eleven-unit gated condominium community north of Whittier, on Pearl.

It will consist of an eight-unit new build complex, four stories tall. The Rosenbergers will occupy the top floor of this building, while seven flats will occupy the second and third floors.  The first level will be reserved for parking.

Treetops will also include the renovation of two existing houses that face High Street, with a house to be built between them in the Queen Anne Style.  These three houses will each consist of one multi-level condominium unit.

A gated entrance from Pearl Street will lead residents into a beautiful red-brick courtyard, tying these buildings together for both a sense of community and element of privacy.

Additional details include:

* Each unit will have either a two or three car private garage.

* Units will range from 1600 – 3200 square feet and cost $340,000 - $800,000 each.

* Each unit has at least 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

* Units will be offered for sale as they near completion. The first unit is expected to go for sale in late spring.

* First units expected to be completed in late 2005

* Treetops was designed by Sullivan Bruck Architects, Inc. and is being built by The Baker Henning Company.

The Rosenbergers acquired the property in February 2004 and the plan for Treetops was approved by the Brewery District Commission June 3, 2004.  It has not received, nor will it receive any incentives from any public entity.

i suppose i'll be the one to point out this isn't in german village...

but it's columbus, and evidently names can be whatever they want these days. (nobody is worse than the dispatch at neighborhood names)

Kinda cool the way they tucked the condos behind the single family houses.  Keep the feel of the neighborhood while diversifying the housing stock.

Yeah, I noticed that too...especially since they mentioned the Brewery District Commission in the press release!

Condos' vintage fence given new life

By GARTH BISHOP

Treetops at German Village may be a new condominium community, but the fence that surrounds goes back quite a few years.  Thanks to recent renovation work, you'd never know it.  Originally erected around 1900, the fence was looking a little worse for the wear when the lot it surrounds -- containing two homes of a similar vintage -- was purchased five years ago by John Rosenberger and his wife, Susan.

Repairing the century-old wrought-iron fence was a time-consuming task: From 200 to 250 hours were put into sandblasting, straightening, welding and painting it, said Michael LaPlante, president of Zanesville-based contracting group Friesinger's Inc.  "It just wouldn't have been right to restore those homes and not put the fence back in shape," said Rosenberger.  Located next to Plank's on High, just north of the corner of Whittier and High streets, the property inside the fence has a rich and varied past.

Treetops at German Village, the complex that has been constructed there, contains 11 condominiums.  Three of them are free-standing homes -- the original two and a new one -- and the remaining eight are part of one large building.

Heads up!

This project is done and units are either sold or selling

Man...Columbus just seems to be knocking out these projects recently.  I see one after another being completed…well done!

good: the apt interiors look very nice. i like the setting & the courtyard too.

eh part?: i like how they designed it to fit in with the neighborhood, but throwback style new construction never seems to come off looking nearly as good as the real thing. not sure here.

maybe someone could get us some pics of it?

Nice! I often drive by this place along High, and I remembered just how ... derelict this place resembled compared to what's there today. Kudos.

I know this is an update for a long-completed project (13 years as of this posting), but there is a good reason for it.  First, no photos of the completed project were ever posted - and the project website has been discontinued.  But secondly, and the primary reason for this update, a new project proposed for an historic neighborhood in the southeast corner of downtown/Discovery District is following a similar redevelopment strategy as this Treetops at German Village project.

Below are some photos from http://www.russorealtors.com/property/218025068/ - a realtor marketing one of the 11 condo units at the Treetops - plus some recent Google aerials of the completed Treetops project:

This is a recent streetview image from South High Street.  The three brick houses in the middle are part of the Treetops at German Village project.  The center house is a newly constructed building, while the two outside houses were renovated.  To the right is Plank's on High, a long-running neighborhood restaurant/bar.  To the left is a house that Goodfellow's Tonsorial Parlor moved into in 2018 - https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2018/09/13/take-a-look-at-goodfellow-s-tonsorial-parlor-one.html - which is a trendy shave and haircut barbershop business:

Below is an aerial view of the Treetops project.  Behind the three houses facing High Street, a new 3-story condo building with a 4th-story penthouse was built:

Here is a closer aerial view of the Treetops project which shows the central courtyard formed by the new U-shaped condo building behind the three High Street houses:

Below is an aerial showing the Pearl Street side of the project.  The 4th story penthouse unit with two large outdoor balconies is visible from this angle:

And here is that 3-story condo building with the 4th story penthouse unit seen from Pearl Street.  There are electronically controlled pedestrian and vehicular gates facing Pearl:

And here is a close-up of the vehicular gate and passageway that leads into the interior courtyard of the Treetops project:

Back to the High Street portion of the project.  This is a view from the High Street sidewalk showing a walkway between two of the front houses at the Treetops.  The infill house on the left was newly constructed around 2005.  The restored house on the right was built circa 1890.  The restored wrought-iron fencing and stone pillars facing High Street are over a century-old and were installed here as part of the Treetops project:

Further down the walkway between the two houses, there is another electronically controlled gate that limits access to the central courtyard just beyond:
