Again, if you would just quit being cheap and offer to buy them a drink - such antics wouldn't be necessary ;-)

Ahh, remember I'm hating all men this week and probably for the rest of my life!

One time someone suggested PF Chang in Beachwood and the looks of death (from everyone, including me) ensured they never did that again

LOL, I can actually picture that moment and I don't know your friends.  Maybe because I have my own look of death when someone recommends, Applebees, Chili's or Olive Garden.

And having met me, do you think I would allow myself to have a non-existent social life?

LOL.  Certainly not.  I'm actually glad someone can make it work and that this is available. It's way better than renting a car every time you need one.

How about the ZENN (Zero Emissions No Noise) Car?  It does have some limitations, but for primarily urban driving, especially urban commuting or running errands, it's an intriguing solution!

Basic Specs:

2 passenger hatchback w/ ample truck room

all electric; charges via a standard outlet

35 mile range; 25 mph top speed

in a class of vehicles known as NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle) which means it cannot travel on roads marked over 35MPH

starting price: $12K

That car wouldn't even make it up the hill on my street!

SAAB 9-1 Concept:

We've got to give GM props on this one, since, unlike other automakers, it's blacked-out teaser isn't nearly as susceptible to Photoshop trickery. Regardless, Saab put up the image above on its media site announcing what we already knew: the Saab 9-1X concept is coming to Geneva and it's going to take all the right cues from its bigger brothers. Although the head-on shot gives us some clues about the concept's wide stance and aggressive snout, what we really want to know is how the designers have shaped the rear hatch. While it's assumed that a sloping rear roofline will terminate into a bulbous back end, we've heard rumors that a large overhang will be fitted at the top of the roof to give a sort of reverse-ducktail. The Geneva Motor Show is fast approaching and we're looking forward to seeing how Saab plans to do battle with the Audi A3 and Volvo C30.

Wow, give it a manual and maybe half again the horsepower and that's my new dream car.

"25 mph top speed"

I'm car-free and even *I'm* saying "oh H3LL no!" on that one.

It's too bad they couldn't offer 40 or even 35 mph. I'd definitely consider it if the higher speed was possible, even if it meant reducing the range from 35 miles to 25 miles or even 20 (absolutely minimum for me).

It's pretty cool that they do have a dealership here in Ohio (one of the few states to have one)....

SOME limitations?  I can run faster than the darn thing.  Why were electric cars so much better 10 years ago than they are today?

EDIT: MayDay, it looks like you increased demand for CityWheels, the price went up to $9/hour already!

i saw this is sag harbor last weekend. it's a real/unamericanized mini cooper someone imported over.

relic of the past.  amazing little car, simple and gets the job done.  nice rag top too.  Those are just starting to come back. you can almost fit two of those in that parking spot.

That car is fab!!

SOME limitations?  I can run faster than the darn thing.

Yes, some limitations.  The title of this thread is 'best cars for city dwellers'.  Why does one in an urban setting need to own a  a crotch rocket?  I agree the ZENN may not be anyone's ideal car, but it is a nice price point and it's limitations are a factor of it's classification, which is called Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV).

Things I like about the ZENN are that it's a zero emissions vehicle.  Vehicle emissions are a large contributor to Northeast Ohio's NOX and fine particle pollution problems.  It's scale is much less threatening to pedestrians and cyclists, which is a precious thing in the urban environment.

Why were electric cars so much better 10 years ago than they are today?

They aren't.  The ZENN is not meant for the highway.  The NEV classification was created for gated communities, but has recently found equal success in congested urban areas b/c of it's small size, zero emissions, low cost (upfront, maintenance, & fuel).  The ZENN is the first car from a North American producer to target urban customers with a vehicle that feels more like a car than a golf cart.

If you want to race 100 mph down Chester Avenue in an electric car, maybe the Tesla Roadster (made in CA)

http://www.teslamotors.com/ or the  Commuter Car's Tango (made in WA) http://www.commutercars.com/ or the Myers Motors NMG (made in OH)  http://www.myersmotors.com/ are more your style.  I'm just not sure why these types of cars are necessary or beneficial to urbanites.

That tesla car is hot.  If I look at that webpage, I know I'm going to be in trouble!

That Tesla car is out of your class that is why I didn't recommend it to you. ;)

How about the Mazda Suitcase?  Not too sure what the MPG is, but I think it is small enough for the city...and your garage...or closet....or office desk...or the over head compartment on the airplane.

It's hot!

I can't read this thread any longer!

Best cars for city dwellers?  Streetcars of course...

The Tesla Roadster IS beautiful... a dream, in fact, to the tune of $98,500.  But still beautiful.

Why does one in an urban setting need to own a  a crotch rocket?

That's ridiculous, so wanting a car that CAN go over 25 mph means I want a crotch rocket?

If you want to race 100 mph down Chester Avenue in an electric car

No, if I wanted an urban car, I would probably want to be able to safely get over the Lorain-Carnegie bridge without getting run over.  25 mph would be a hazard on that thing.  The point of being an urbanite with a car is so that you could get to places that public transit couldn't, and at a TOP SPEED of 25 mph, it sure wouldn't do much more for you than a bike.
