Can anyone tell me a little about what it's like renting in Ohio City? My lease is up at the end of May and am exploring options. I am loving the idea of being within walking distance to the Rapid, West Side Market and the other cool things. I'm a little hesitant because there doesn't seem to be much to rent in the "hub" area, and I'm unsure of the crime level. Of course, an old lady's unit in my building in Lakewood was ransacked this week, so I don't know if it really matters that much...

I'd be looking for a 1BR; I pay $650 right now and get heat and water and a parking space in an outdoor lot for the car.

check out www.clv-lofts.com

I'd look at the Metzner and the Merrell buildings.  If you rent in these buildings, you get access to the gym (small, but good) at the Federal Knitting Mills building.

Our little jamiec is growing up.  The new J-O-B.  Now the new crib!  You betta work boy!

Question, how can you part with your custom blue walls?

I think that you'd have to pay a little more than 650. The landlord for CLV-Lofts is great and very accomodating. My sister in law lived in Metzner for a year and never complained of safety issues. The front door security system appears to be pretty good.

Movin' on up in the world, I am! One day, I'll be able to afford one of them downtown digs! I really <3 my apartment, but the management company is doing an awful job, and now that I'm commuting to work full-time via transit, I want to be near the Rapid...and the West Side Market. I'd look at Shaker Square, MTS, but my friends all live on the West Side and they'd never come visit me. Brats!

Thanks, 3231! I'll keep my eye on that site. The rent didn't look too bad. I can afford a little bit more, but I'd like to be able to pocket more of my raise rather than blow it all on rent. Do those buildings have areas to put your car or is it a free-for-all on the street?

^gated and secured lots immediately behind each building.

Screw your friends!  You're moving up the corporate ladder, leave the dead weight behind!  Move on up to the East Side.

Friends don't pay your bills!  Move east young man!

Does anyone know anything about the West Virginia Building?

I drove from neighborhood to neighborhood today trying to figure out where to move when my lease is up in a couple months, and I'm a bit overwhelmed. I adore the look and feel of Ohio City, but there doesn't seem to be many good renting options there besides the Metzner and Merrill, and they don't seem to have vacancies all that often.

That is sweet.  I didn't know that building had been renovated.  It used to be quite the flophouse as I remember.

I should make sure and clarify that craigs list I posted is not in the WV building.

So, the West Virginia is a dump?

That unit looks awesome, Peabody! I'll send an e-mail but I doubt it's going to last until June 1 :)

Maybe I'm just be picky but that apartment wasn't all that.  Why is the refrigerator outside of the kitchen? Why does it have missing cabinets?

Who said that?  I've only seen pictures, but it looks nice.

For $700/month it looks very nice.  The refrigerator looks to be in the kitchen to me.  Good catch on the cabinets, though.  When you're paying $700/month for a 1,000 sqft, nice looking unit in one of Cleveland's best neighborhoods, I'd say it's a small concern, though.

Look at the picture again, it appears the 'fridge and that pantry should be switched.  $700 for 1K sq. ft, I guess that's good.

Again, maybe I'm just a picky Queen!

My point exactly!

Well, I haven't even seen pictures of the interior. I just have seen it from the outside, lol. I'm all confused now!

I thought that W28th lives in the West Virginia building. I know someone else who lives there and I've heard that he has a "sweet" apartment..

I doubt it is- but I have never been in. I wanted to clarify so you would know where you are. Either location is great. But I vote for over the Old Angle!

I vote for that unit, too! :) My lease isn't up for two months... Freaking landlord requires two months notice though!

Can you go month to month?  Check your current lease to see if that is an option.  Even if your lease expires, you can't be thrown out as long as the landlord accepts payment.  Is Cleveland is tenant friendly?.

I can, but last year they wanted to raise my rent $75 a month to go month-to-month, which is nice because they don't do any maintenance at all anymore.

WELL. It's almost official. I called my management company today and they gave me lip, so I'm putting my 60 day notice in this week! The search begins for a new place to go!

Good luck!

yeah! When does the search start? I love that kind of thing.

Soon! I have to move out May 31, so I have two months. I'll probably narrow down the 'hood over the next month and then look for a specific unit. I'm also considering moving downtown, but I'm not sure if it's in the budget. I'd like to keep it around $750-800 including parking.
