This is the neighborhood of West Boulevard.  It encompasses the neighborhood around West 2007_0303Cleveland0233.jpgBoulevard.  This is in my opinion one of the nicest family neighborhoods in Cleveland.  The housing stock is still in very good shape, lots of families, large houses and decent size yards.  I also like the diversity in this

neighborhood.  There is a substantial Arabic, African American, populations.  My favorite part of this neighborhood is the mini brick street neighborhood.  Unfortunately this was cut up by I-90.

Commercial Along Lorain Avenue

You'll notice the sigh says Lorain Station but this is only a block down the road from West Boulevard and Lorain and I still believe is technically apart of the West Boulevard neighborhood

Here is some of the homes lines West Boulevard.  They are much larger than the homes in the rest of the neighborhood which I'll show after these photos.  It kinda of reminds me of the homes along Franklin Avenue and its relation to the homes surrounding it.

Here are some photos of my favorite part of the neighborhood.  It contains several bricks streets in a row.  This area of brick streets apparently used to be quite substantial before I-90 cut right through.  I noticed in my travels that there are a serious of these brick streets North of the highway also.

My father's flooring business, Dee Jaye Floors (Dominic and John) was located in this building next to Izzo's.  They installed carpet and tile during the day, and took turns keeping the store open at night.  Occasionally, I would get to go to work with him on Friday nights in the late 50's.  He had an old TV late 40's vintage, which may or may not work on any given night.  There was a door connected to Izzo's and I would get to go over there and get us Cokes in glass bottles!  To a little kid, it was a dark place!  Just what you would imagine a neighborhood  bar to be!

I defiently am not Nathanial.

Great pics!

awesome shots!! great neighborhood.. I love the little brick streets..  I wish Williamsport would have retained more of its brick..  :-(

Welcome to the forum!!

Residentially I'm not impressed but in the commercial architecture I see potential.

Nice story!

^ Thanks, MTS

They are good memories

Your story is a fine example of what great and diverse city Cleveland is, the great stories her residents hold and why she is worth all the investment coming her way!

Nice spread.  This nabe appears a typical Cleveland neighborhood that mushroomed during Cleveland's growth spurt around and after WWI: woodframe houses with redbrick or buff-brick, mixed-use buildings on commercial streets -- many using Tudor or Spanish Mission motifs.  Like its neighbor, Detroit-Superior, it has its warts but is largely intact and experiencing something of a mini renaissance (though not on the D-S or Ohio City level... yet).

Some of those houses are huge!! Wonder what the upkeep is like.

Yeah, the Lorain Station commerical area is perhaps the highlight of the neighborhood; generally, however, the housing is well-kept and family-friendly plus there are some great apartment buildings and rowhouses in the blocks to the near south of Lorain, so residential isn't completely unimpressive.

Sorry about the deleted links.  I have been doing housing keeping with Photobucket

can't see anything

The Lorain Station area looks really cool as you pass it on I-90.  I'd prefer the highway wasn't there, but it is fun to look over at the neighborhood climbing up the hillside.  Maybe the only place in Cleveland where you can get an urban vista that nice from your car.
