Hey all, my friend and I are looking to move downtown in July. We are both musicians and are looking to move close enough to Playhouse Square, yet not necessarily into the theater district.  We were thinking E. 4th or the Warehouse District.  Noise is not an issue, as I have spent many a night sitting on a stoop outside of the gyro place on west 6th at 3 am.  We were looking for a 2 bedroom apt. that will be 1,000 dollars or less a month.  I'm sure that seems difficult in either of these 2 places, but I'm sure it's do-able.  We were just looking for some help as to availability, and insider info.  No details about the neighborhood itself as we have both spent plenty of time downtown.  Thank you for all of your help.  Catch ya on the flip-side

Check out the Pointe at Gateway. It's on Prospect by East 9th.  It think rent starts at about $950 for a 2 bedroom. Also, the building is in the process of going condo so they may not renew your lease next year. It depends on how well the sales are going.

you can get a 2 bedroom for under 1000 in warehouse district:

- bridgeview, although the unit will be small and probably not have a great view, may have to get special to get under 1000/month;

- crittenden court seems pretty affordable, but i was never very impressed with the interior of this building, and generally have not heard good reviews from people who have lived here;

- national terminal is cheap too, and they have 2 bedrooms for under 1000 that might be quite large.  but the elevators, management, tenants, etc. are not great from someone i know there.

- 425 lakeside -  they used to have some reasonable 2 bedroom rentals as well.

in gateway / theater:

- chesterfield - haven't heard much positive about this building, but it does have rooftop pool and is close to euclid corridor;

- statler arms - nice building, 1000/month will be tough, but i know people who have existing leases there for around 1000/month for 2 bedroom places, they may also discount a bit with the euclid project.

do you plan to park a car downtown?

Urbanlife...I will have to have a car while living downtown.  I will be reverse commuting because I teach guitar out in Aurora...I know...Aurora.  The 1,000 dollar price tag is speculative, so it can be a little more if need be.  We were just trying to find something CLOSE to what we're paying in Berea right now, which is pretty dirt cheap.  Both of us can afford to pay a little more than that, but we weren't looking to break the bank.  I have a friend who lives in Statler, and for what we're looking for, it would be fairly close...if not a little too far out from where we're looking.  When reading through information, 425 Lakeside seems nice and affordable.  Thank you for the information so far :).

All those seem really nice.

I bet now is the time to get a good deal, before the spring/summer rush.

Hi everyone, I know I never post and it's been a while since this thread was updated, but I wanted to just say hello because we found an apartment in The Bridgeview on W. 9th and St. Claire, and we are moving in at the end of May!  So, I just wanted to let everyone here know that downtown Cleveland has 2 more residents that probably won't be counted in the census anyway, but we'll know we're there!  This move is incredibly exciting since I've wanted to live downtown ever since my parents took me to The Arcade when I was 9 and was disappointed that I didn't get to play Virtua Fighter like I wanted to.  Take care everyone, and thank you for all of the help along the way, and thank you for being positive members of the community.  I have shown more people how wonderful Cleveland is just by steering them to this website.  Have a wonderful day!

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Huron Square Apts and Osborn Apts

They are opp Winking Lizard and very close to the highway.

I am moving soon and have thought a bit about living downtown.

Does anyone know if there are any buildings between Warehouse District and Playhouse Square where heat is included in rent? It seems like most places you pay separately for heat.

Most of the newer places don't run on heat.  They are electric heat, so you just get an "energy / electric" bill.  Which as you can imagine is waaaayyyy better.

Cool, thanks McC. Can folks give me an idea of what they typically pay in the winter for energy/electric in a 1- or 2bdrm downtown apartment?

I live in a 2 bedroom / 2 bath, just shy of 1000 sf. Peak winter (typ jan - feb heating) and peak summer (july - aug ac) it gets up to about $100-110 / month. normally it's more around $70 / month... and a couple months a year in the spring / fall when I leave the air off all together i get those really nice $45-50 bills.  There are of course a lot of determining factors involved.  I.E. how many windows your unit has, is it "insulated" by surrounding units or is it on a corner, how often do you change your air filters, quality of windows in the building, etc.

i lived in a 2 bedroom / 2 bath, 1300 square foot apartment downtown and it was between $35-65 a month to keep it at 68 in the winter and 74 in the summer using electric heat pump.  older windows, not a corner unit, east facing.  this price didn't include hot water.

I'm about $70 or so a month for my electric bill, including heat- 575 sq ft 1 bedroom, but 13 ft ceilings, old drafty windows, top floor, north facing.

Wow, I'm a little jealous about those heating bills. Those are not bad at all.

I'm surrounded on all sides by heat monsters, so I never turned on the furnace. I would occasionally turn on the fireplace. Average gas heating bill for Dec-Mar?  $12.

I live in a seven-story condo building and am surrounding on four of the six sides by other housing units. My fifth-floor unit has eastern and southern exposures, so I also get natural heating. Plus I have some electric cove and panel heaters, which keep at about 72 degrees during the winter. I keep my central HVAC unit set at about 70. Even with a gas stove, I pay for gas only three months out of the year (on a budget plan) and then my bills are only $20 per month from mid December to mid March. My electric bill is about $100-120 per month in winter, $40 or so in spring and fall and about $70-100 in summer.
