Posted February 27, 200817 yr West Central Snow Day Feb 26, 2008 Tuesday, February 26, 2008 - When I looked outside this morning, the trees were heavily coated with fresh white snow and snow was still falling. It's the most beautiful snowfall we've had in quite some time. The weather forecast called for winds to pick up later in the morning, and I decided to grab my camera and get some photos before everything blew away. I spent about an hour and a half, all within a few blocks of my house. Just about the time my hands couldn't take any more, my camera battery ran out and then I got bombed by big clumps of snow as a sudden breeze shook the trees. My shack Winter garden The only row houses I know of in Fort Wayne. I lived in an apartment here forty years ago. If my information is correct, this house was built about 1911 by the Latz family, owners of Wolf & Dessauer Department Store, and converted to apartments around 1937. Castle Gallery Renovation in progress. This place had gotten in pretty rough shape; it had had two fires that I know of. One was started by a tenant cleaning motorcycle parts in his kitchen sink, using gasoline. It's looking really nice, so far. The three houses at the west end of this block were all moved here at different times to prevent their being razed to create parking lots. Prior to the first house being moved here, this was a parking lot, and prior to that a large Italianate brick home stood here. It was razed some time in the 1960s. I had an efficiency apartment at Sheridan Court Apartments in 1960.

February 27, 200817 yr Wow, your neighborhood always looks beautiful, but it looks simply stunning with a fresh coat of snow. And the snow on the trees is really one of my favorite forms of beauty in nature. Thanks for braving the cold and sharing your photos with us! Well worth the effort.

March 8, 200817 yr Beautiful photos, Rob. Some of the residential shots remind me of the Ravenswood Manor neighborhood here in Chicago. (served by the Francisco stop on the brown line since I know you're a big rail fan) :) The Sheridan Court apartments look great. A classic courtyard building that would fit right in on Sheridan Ave here in Chicago (or basically anywhere else in the city). It's pretty cool to see that type of residential structure in Fort Wayne. :)
