February 27, 200817 yr You sure get around. Great photos. Houston has some wonderful buildings and interesting public art. Was there a few years ago and the only thing I remember is hot hot and muggy it was. Guess I should have looked up!
February 27, 200817 yr Personally I think Houston is pretty "bland" and the generic. I'm just glad I don't have to go there any longer. Thankya Geezus!
February 27, 200817 yr Definately like some of that public art... and a pretty nice skyline to go along with it.
February 27, 200817 yr nice set. from far away, dt houston looks nice. but at the street level...blah! underground malls anyone?
February 27, 200817 yr nice set. from far away, dt houston looks nice. but at the street level...blah! underground malls anyone? Agreed, however, those underground tunnels are convenient when its 90 degrees and 100% humidity. The areas around downtown are also very bland. There is an area near the minute maid park that looks like its right out of Roots. "Homes" that resembled slave quarters.
February 27, 200817 yr Nice shots of an impressive skyline. What is the deal with shot number 7? It looks like an almost exact replica of the national mall on a smaller scale.
February 27, 200817 yr Nice shots of an impressive skyline. What is the deal with shot number 7? It looks like an almost exact replica of the national mall on a smaller scale. Yeah .. really tacky.
February 27, 200817 yr Chris any observations on how well the light rail line is working? The last time I was there, Enron Field was a week from opening.
February 27, 200817 yr Nice shots of an impressive skyline. What is the deal with shot number 7? It looks like an almost exact replica of the national mall on a smaller scale. Hermann Park is like their "Central Park," as it is between downtown and the Texas Medical Center (it holds their zoo, the Museum District, adjacent to Rice University, etc). As for the "bootleg Mall," yeah, I dunno but the park was nice. Chris any observations on how well the light rail line is working? The last time I was there, Enron Field was a week from opening. The light-rail seemed alright. It certainly connects areas that are somewhat walkable (the park, the TMC, areas of downtown) but I didn't see that many people riding it at all. I do love the feature on Main Street with the water-fountain interaction and the cars were certainly nice. March 4, 200817 yr Nice shots. A few good buildings in there, but overall my opinion of Houston remains unchanged. The fountain would be much nicer if they removed the suburban bank facade from in front of it.
March 5, 200817 yr Doesn't look bad and they do have light rail. I'll have to see some neighborhoods.
March 5, 200817 yr Neighborhoods? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 4, 200816 yr God what an ugly ass city. I have been there once about 3 years ago and would be content if I never went back. Sure it has tall buildings but Houston might be one of the most overrated cities in the country.
September 4, 200816 yr Neighborhoods? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Exactly. I wanted to see me some of them 100ft rights of way.
September 4, 200816 yr lol, what the hell is this?! http://www.urbanohio.com/UOThreads/Houston/2008/08JanHouston5.jpg Nice skyline though!
September 4, 200816 yr nice job. i hope you got some texas bbq in while you were there. that's god's bbq. amazing a city can have a whole downtown of mostly generic ring road style office buildings.
September 5, 200816 yr As someone who is practically in Texas monthly for work, I can tell you first hand that it is vastly overrated. First of all Texas BBQ doesn't have anything on Memphis BBQ. Interstate BBQ beats everything in Texas. The best BBQ in Texas I have eaten is ironically a chain in Sonny Bryan's. Most of the local places specialize in fatty brisket and it is very unappealing compared to pulled pork. I think Columbus based City BBQ beats most of the Texas joints - no exageration. Montgomery Inn in Cincinnati makes horrible pulled pork but they are still the best ribs I have ever eaten.
September 5, 200816 yr overrated and notice the amount of surface parking so those in Cleveland don't complain! Our parking is being eliminated, in H-Town they are trying to create more. That trolley is a waste of funds the entire line is a waste - even compared to the WFL at this very moment. EOD!
September 5, 200816 yr But what about Neartown? I mean, just look at the pics. A McDonalds, lots of cars, and a bounty of curb cuts.
July 19, 20231 yr Great pix above. As a reminder, pre-boom Houston in the 70's: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F1XV0SLXoAEasSz?format=jpg&name=medium Remember: It's the Year of the Snake
