Posted February 27, 200817 yr I want to start this tour by saying that I love where I live. My house is about ten minutes from the City of Williamsport, PA. The road that I live on serves as a link to the major state and US highways in the area, and that is where the fun starts. The first town I'll show you is Picture Rocks, PA. PA State Route 864 in Lycoming County starts about 5 miles from my house and takes you a snaking and winding 13 miles east to Picture Rocks. Picture Rocks is a tiny community that sits at the intersection of PA State Route 864 and US Highway 220 in the northeastern part of Lycoming County. Population is a little under 700 people. There isn't much to it, but I liked it. Sorry for the tiny thread. I wanted to show you guys the town with the only traffic light in Sullivan County, Dushore, but I missed it haha. I then realized after I got home that if I went another few 1000 feet I would have been in the town. Oh well, I got a fun ride out of it and I'll get it next time. On to the pictures already... jeeze.. Don't worry next thread won't have such a long intro.. maybe.. Coming into Picture Rocks on 864: My favorite house in the whole town: Podunk Post Office: Not so podunk church. I loved this church: This is what most of the housing is like in this town, plain, white and simple: US 220 runs north/south through here and takes you west into Williamsport if you follow it south: "Downtown??" haha.. Aww I shouldn't be mean, I like this place: I decided to go on some of the little side streets and I am happy I did: Darn sign.. ah well: On US 220 looking north. The ride turns into a BEAUTIFUL journey if you follow this road: So I left with plans of driving up to Dushore. Unfortunately, you won't see it right now but I love 220: Added Bonus!!!! haha.. The tiny mountain village of Glen Mawr: So that is Picture Rocks. Hopefully, within the next week or so, I'll get back up to Dushore. It's smaller than Picture Rocks, but it is still significant. Oh, I still haven't forgotten about doing a Williamsport tour. I'm just building it up for you haha. Stay tuned for the next Rural North-Central PA thread. -Jeff

February 27, 200817 yr I'll try to get down there. I have never been there before but it's an excuse for a good ride..
February 28, 200817 yr good one, dfly lol Great photos... I've never heard of Picture Rocks but it sure is a charmer. The snow looks so clean and fresh. Glad you're enjoying north-central PA! I look forward to more of your photos!
February 28, 200817 yr Thanks a lot Evergrey!! The reason why the snow looked that way is because the Friday before, we had a big storm. This was Sunday, so everything was topped with snow. It was gorgeous riding up in the mountains on 220. I wish I got more pictures.
February 28, 200817 yr We are heading your way for a job interview next week, Mansfield which seems even smaller.
February 29, 200817 yr We are heading your way for a job interview next week, Mansfield which seems even smaller. Wow... that's obscure... Mansfield University-related? It's a very tiny, remote town with a state university... but it is bigger than Picture Rocks... and it's within striking distance of Binghamton, NY for some big city excitement.
February 29, 200817 yr Yeah, it is with the university. We are also headed to Columbus for an interview. Mansfield isn't at the top of the list mostly because of location. I hear Elmira is a hopping place too.
February 29, 200817 yr my mistake... it's Elmira that Mansfield's close to (always mix that and the Bing up)
February 29, 200817 yr Binghamton really is the 'big' city nearby, but Elmira is a little closer. We've never stopped there before, only traveled through. It seems to be as in the middle of nowhere as you can be and still be east of the mississippi.
March 2, 200817 yr Cute town! It looks like folks are diligent about shoveling their sidewalks; some people around my neighborhood could take a lesson from that.
