June 16, 200816 yr Author Congressman Chabot Joins Fight Against Planned Parenthood http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=6dea3261-19b2-430f-9c5b-2209754ae60b Last Update: 7:17 pm Planned Parenthood Clinic Move Stirs Controversy Web produced by: Ian Preuth and Thomas Nedeau Contributor: Kevin Delaney The new effort to stop Planned Parenthood from moving to Westwood near several local high schools has some congressional muscle. A number of local leaders, including Congressman Steve Chabot started a petition drive against the proposal Monday. Planned Parenthood bought a building on Ferguson Road. It plans to move from Bridgetown to that location in August. Pro-life groups said Planned Parenthood is targeting children and minorities. "We would hope that Planned Parenthood for once does the right thing and decides not to open here in such close proximity to schools and our vulnerable children," Chabot said. Planned Parenthood said the clinic does not perform abortions, but opponents worry the center will refer clients to Tri-State facilities that do.
July 17, 200816 yr Earlier in the thread the issue of the train bridges was brought up and debated when they were removed. It was in 1984. I still have the WH Press article about it. I was working at Perkins on Westbourne at the time on 3rd shift Fridays and Saturdays and one Friday night they were working over night to remove the bridge over Glenway. That was the fall of 1984.
July 17, 200816 yr I remember how all the pigeons still perched on the wires and poles at the intersection as if the bridge was still there! That would have been a good photo op.
July 17, 200816 yr Author ^Yup, I remember that. I was 4 or 5, but I recall them sticking around for a while after the bridge came down. They are beginning to work on that intersection and I am trying to keep up on the progress, but I believe they will be tearing up the old footers from that bridge SOON once they start ripping out the islands. They have (had) to be massive to support the weight of that bridge plus the trains. They will probably jackhammer the crap during the night to keep traffic flowing during the day. Can't wait, I can definitely hear the work from my house and it makes for long nights if I don't have the AC on.
July 19, 200816 yr It should be noted that the intersection at Glenway and Race is a short term improvement. There are numerous safety improvements that are trying to correct, and these short term improvements shouldn't really increase capacity. That said, there are some significant capacity / safety improvements that can be made, and I hope they upgrade the signal, which could really, really improve operation.
July 19, 200816 yr Author They have blocked the three ramps completely off now. If you want to make a right hand turn, you have to go to the center of the intersection. 20 minutes ago I just watched a Metro swing it wide and try and make the right hand turn, while some old woman wasn't watching. Her Hyundai's front end paid the price. This will be a cluster&^%* for sometime.
July 21, 200816 yr Those three ramps are going away completely. They're massive safety issues. (More than cars use this intersection) I imagine when it is all said and done the corner radii will be vastly improved. It's not as though they don't have the right of way to do it on three of the four approaches.
July 23, 200816 yr Does anyone have renderings or photos of the site where the club and restaurants are going?

August 29, 200816 yr So the cash-strapped Delhi Township is working to acquire a tax-paying business (with TIF money) and then turn it into park space. TIF money is used for projects that expect property values to rise as a result. I guess $600k isn't all that much and can be returned based on property value increase from the park expansion, but I think it might be a stretch and money better spent elsewhere. Not to mention you're removing a tax-paying business and replacing with a maintainance requiring park. Doesn't make much cents to me.
September 4, 200816 yr Author I am somewhat unclear about the Dunham Rec. Complex. I thought that is off Quebec Ave (edit: Guerley). I was under the impression this was happening at Oskamp off of Glenway. Miracle League Field Groundbreaking Scheduled for Sept. 16 Contributed By Michael Anderson | Cincinnati Reds The groundbreaking for the Miracle League field, located at the Dunham Recreation Complex in Western Hills, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. The field will provide children with disabilities a safe and permanent home for the Miracle League of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The synthetic turf field is scheduled to be completed in April of 2009. Unique features of the complex will include covered dugouts, adjacent pavilion with handicap accessible restrooms and easy access to Dunham’s new Otto Armleder Memorial Regional Aquatic Complex. The Cincinnati Recreation Commission’s Adapted Baseball Program began in 1986. In the fall of 2004, the CRC’s Division of Therapeutic Recreation joined the Miracle League to become the first Miracle League of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Currently there are 200 Miracle League organizations across the country with 100 completed rubberized fields and 100 fields under construction. The Miracle League is proud to serve over 80,000 children and young adults with disabilities. The Miracle League operates under the belief that “every child deserves a chance to play baseball.” Representatives from the CRC, the Reds Community Fund and Rotary Club of Cincinnati in addition to local and regional government officials and community leaders will be speaking at the groundbreaking.
September 4, 200816 yr I am somewhat unclear about the Dunham Rec. Complex. I thought that is off Quebec Ave. I was under the impression this was happening at Oskamp off of Glenway. I thought you were from the west side? Dunham is off Guerley. Just down from Rapid Run Park
September 4, 200816 yr Author D'oh! Slipped up! You got me. I always confuse Grand, Quebec, and Guerley for some reason. (They all three connect Glenway to Queen City.) I have just started exploring that part of Price Hill recently.
September 6, 200816 yr Author Newest rumor in the hood is that the Genway Crossing Biggs may be interested in jumping into the soon to be empty Target store in Westwood. I can't find anything on it yet, but I sure wouldn't doubt such a move due to the isolation off Glenway of their current position.
September 6, 200816 yr Would increase visibility, that's for sure, but with the west side it's not really a destination location for any one visiting a retail establishment. It's isolation limits the retail draw to those people that live in the West Side. As most of us probably know, the west side is not that accessible.
September 6, 200816 yr Author ^ It has always been behind the plaza! Here are some Rybolt Rd. and remodel pics from near 74! http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,17257.0.html Bridgetown, Glenway, and Race progress or lack their of!! Cluster&^$%!!
September 7, 200816 yr It's ODOT... it'll take them all the time in the world. It's a bit more difficult when the first thing you have to do is remove and replace the traffic signal. It's... challenging. Also, this improvement greatly increases the safety of the intersection... especially for pedestrians. Free rights are not safe for pedestrians. No one in Ohio realizes that at a crosswalk pedestrians have the right of way.
October 3, 200816 yr Author This guys paints a very realistic view of the westside and where it may be going. Good Read cause he doesn't leave much out that we have talked about on here but kinda long. You westside born townies might like it. Builders’ Market A building boom is poised to bring new stores—even fancy, stone-covered ones—to west side shopping centers. But is it all really necessary? http://www.cincinnatimagazine.com/article.aspx?id=61632 By Jack Heffron Illustration by Ryan Snook The sign announces “Coming Soon Western Hills Plaza,” which stops me every time I see it. The large shopping center sprawled behind the sign is Western Hills Plaza and has been there since its grand opening on November 15, 1954. True, the plaza is undergoing significant construction to make way for a new Target that will sit smack in the middle. But come on, it’s pretty much the same place it’s always been. Still, the sign is a sign of a retail revolution erupting on the west side. For years—for decades, maybe even forever—folks on this side of town have complained about our lack of shopping convenience and selection. So you’d think that the buzz about a number of new retail centers would spark a lot of enthusiasm. Though I’ve taken no quantitative surveys and conducted not a single focus group, what I’ve heard people say in person, in the newspaper, and on Web forums is: not really. Click on link for article. November 3, 200816 yr Author Ok. IMO, with CC walking away from their current locale, this may shake things up (optomistically speaking) near that particular stretch of Glenway. Target will be gone by Spring which leaves two huge empty stores for the owners to deal with. Circuit City to close Westwood store http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/11/03/daily5.html Now, my personal dream would be to tear both stores down AND the Pep Boys and CREATE a more inviting WALKABLE, less asphalt development than the hacked up crap that exists today. (Anyone know who the owners are?????) Anyway the layout was not planned AT ALL and it shows. I am still hearing rumors of Biggs possibly being interested in what will be the old Target store, but nothing definite. Here is a aerial shot of the area. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=curcuit+city+45211&sll=39.168932,-84.567947&sspn=0.127497,0.219727&g=45211&ie=UTF8&t=h&layer=c&cbll=39.129603,-84.60671&panoid=Pgt_Q6Vdckg5kaX3JFKOrw&cbp=1,239.66085085378552,,0,6.11634293470873&ll=39.129736,-84.607848&spn=0.003029,0.006427&z=17
November 3, 200816 yr How about getting that rail ROW back and doing some sort of tree cover in that area. There is way too much retail over there for the population it serves. This is a great chance to take some of the glut off the market.
November 3, 200816 yr Author ^Oooh, I like that idea of getting the rail row back. There would still be a Wal Mart in the way, but we could work on running them out too. edit: Huh, DDR is the owners http://www.ddr.com/site.php?center_id=166&state_path=ohio

The Wagon Wheel Cafe's giant neon sign was a mainstay at the corner of Race and Bridgetown roads for many years. Built in 1859, the restaurant/bar closed in May. Officials say the space will eventually be used for a through-lane going north to ease traffic from Race Road to Glenway Avenue.
November 4, 200816 yr Don't blame this on ODOT.... this lies solely on Green Township. Yup...this is 100% Green Township's doing. Corrupt leadership.
November 4, 200816 yr Corrupt is a very good word to describe it, using "road widening" to hide their true intentions, truly despicable. Funny what you learn when you have a senior project that involves that exact intersection.
November 4, 200816 yr Look into Green Township's involvement with the 5-way intersection reconstruction project that happened several years ago now. That project similarly eliminated a bar/night spot in the township without need for the road project. That 5/3 Bank location now stands in its place.
November 4, 200816 yr Oddly enough there, the Western Study has proposed relocating Taylor road to intersect Bridgetown near the supermarket on Bridgetown. God knows if that will ever be done, probably more likely than them eliminating the death curve on Ebenezer, that's for sure! All I know is that I vehemently oppose straightening Ebenezer because it is a relic of how West Side Roads used to look.

November 19, 200816 yr Is an Olive Garden still the plan for Cronin Dodge on Glenway? What are the chances parking will be BEHIND any new buildings.
November 19, 200816 yr Author ^Fat chance of them building closer to the street!! I wish! It COULD start a new trend on Glenway that could resemble some of the more walkable areas of the west side. (ie: Cheviot, Westwood, and Price Hill.) Seems to me Green Twp. requires all new buildings to be offset from the road. (At least ALL development thus far has resembled that UNFORTUNATELY.) This would be A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO REVERSE THAT TREND. On a side note though, this lot is huge when empty. I will try and get some pics at a later date Still just rumors about Red Lobster moving to this locale and Olive garden building where Red Lobster currently is. December 16, 200816 yr Green Township is nothing but a outer suburb. I would rather focus the efforts on good urban planing to the inner burbs and the city proper. Nothing in Green Township is being built to last so there will be other opportunities for urban style redevelopment when demand calls for it. There is to much infill and redevelopment that needs to happen in Cincinnati proper to expect anything less.

There is to much infill and redevelopment that needs to happen in Cincinnati proper to expect anything less. I agree with you for the most part! Yes, most of GT will never be walkable, but the area around Glenway/Bridgetown/Race is still part of the 1st generation burbs, bordered by two cities AND is very walkable and dense. It's just a shame GT trustees don't see it that way! This area is mostly brick homes that HAVE lasted 50-60 years and are in GREAT shape with many people sticking alot of money into them to keep them updated. This particular one cuts through two yards and runs along the northern edge of the former Glenway Dodge dealership property. Even though these are suburbs and are chuck full with culdesacs they are very well connected from a pedestrian perspective. Those sidewalks and catwalk connections are heavily used especially by school children walking to/from Bridgetown Middle School, Cheviot Elementary, and the two nearby Catholic schools. The redevelopment of this site should have a pedestrian focus and do something to compliment the pedestrian activity that currently exists and the activity that wants to exist. All the developers have to do is build something that would engage pedestrian activity and they would see it happen.
December 16, 200816 yr Author More Catwalks that Randy eluded to just a few blocks away. Growing up in this neighborhood as a kid, I remember using these all the time. December 31, 200816 yr Been doing some digging, and looks like one of the restaurants will definitely be a Chic-fil-a. Also some info on the new 32 acre Good Sam medical facilities. Hopefully this link works: http://www.greentwp.org/10-13-08%20MINUTES%20lw.pdf
December 31, 200816 yr Author Nice find! and Welcome! I have been hearing Chipotle and T Mobile too. You are the first to say anything of a Chic-fil-a. The folks at the Red Lobster told me last week that the little Olive Garden/ Red Lobster switcheroo is dead in the water due to the economy. I can live with both of those restaurants though. And it beats an old car dealership any day!
