March 7, 20205 yr ^If done well, that's a really good idea! Historically speaking, there's always been a ton of small businesses all around Dayton... tool and die shops, and support services like plating, machine tool sales, etc. But as an employee at one, I'm finding that there's not a lot of resources to help out and offer guidance if needed. This is in huge contrast to, say, 20 years ago when the professional organizations were a lot stronger before the recession. The recession made a lot of these shops unable to pay their dues for years (like from 2009 all the way into 2013, 2014, even 2015) and in turn they really had to pear down what they do. A resource like this would help a lot of shops that can't afford an Aileron class get the basics they need to make good decisions in this environment.

Work is continuing to get a downtown space ready for Yellow Springs-based WYSO public radio. The January timeframe for WYSO to move into the Dayton Arcade will likely be spring, said Luke Dennis, WYSO general manager and president. With the new location, WYSO hopes to raise its profile among current and new listeners and to cover local news and culture more easily. The timing isn't an issue, though, because the station is getting what it was looking for when considering a move to the Arcade - high visibility. WYSO will be on the first floor of the Kuhns Building, next to Table 33, also slated to move into the building next year. The Contemporary Dayton sits a bit up the block. January 30, 20241 yr Model Group lands $13.9M Ohio tax credit for Dayton Arcade district redevelopment Cincinnati developer Model Group has been awarded $13.9 million in state tax credits for the rehabilitation and expansion of the historic Dayton Arcade. The Ohio Department of Development on Jan. 29 announced Model Group and the Dayton Arcade among 15 projects to have won a total of $100 million through the Transformative Mixed-Use Development (TMUD) program. Cincinnati’s convention center hotel and Carew Tower redevelopment also won millions in tax credits from the same round. The Dayton Arcade was “the beating heart” of a vibrant downtown Dayton for nearly a century following its completion in 1904, according to the project website. The complex shuttered in the early ‘90s. The current development promises to rehabilitate the arcade district’s 10 historic buildings, comprising 810,000 square feet across two city blocks on the north side of Fourth Street between Ludlow and Jefferson streets. January 30, 20241 yr This is great news, since Centre City is really the only remaining big skyscraper that hasn't been converted or isn't in the process of conversion (excepting Paru Tower, but that building seems cursed by its weird owner). I'm hoping that getting population up along Fourth Street and actual *good* businesses in the Air City Garage will help control the loiterers and troublemakers who hang out on the corner of Fourth and Jefferson and constantly get in (both fist and gun) fights. Man, this corner of Dayton has come a loooong way since 2008-2010 when there were still many prominent voices saying that the best solution for the Arcade was to tear it all down and turn it into a park! Glad to see that some people never gave up on the dream. “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
