Anyone know of any other beverage stores in NEO that will allow customers to break up six packs?

Fulton Foods allows you to do this.

I'm a big fan of the two types of Indigo Imp I've tasted.  But every time I'm in Cleve, when I ask a bartender or waiter if they carry it, I get the blankest "WTF are you talking about stare."  Indigo Imp has a list of places that serve their stuff on their website, but I always forget what's on it.  I know it's up to the Imp folks to market their stuff, and for all I know they're already selling out their whole capacity so there's no problem as far as they're concerned, but I'm a little bummed how few restaurateurs/bartenders have even heard of what, IMHO, is a really excellent microbrew in town.  On the flip side, last year, there was a lady working in the beer section of the Chagrin/Lee Heinens who was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Indigo Imp beers, so the brewery seems to have scored big time with its Heinen's relationship.

Also, the little place in Tremont carries it...or did last I checked....  The one near Lucky's.  Its ok..different.

I dig Indigo Imp.  I've tried three of them - Blonde Bombshell, Jester, and Gatekeeper - from Biddulph Beverage, which I mentioned above.  I didn't taste a huge difference between BB and Jester, though.

I've enjoyed the Thirsty Dog (Akron) that I've had so far as well.

I tried the Indigo Imp porter (Gatekeeper I believe).  It was decent, but not a great porter.

Lake Erie Monster is good, and really strong, and pretty expensive since it only comes in 4 packs.  But at 9.1%, you don't really need a 6 pack! :)

I've been meaning to, but I've yet to try Thirsty Dog.

Recently i've been heading over to Whitey's Package in Lawrenceburg, IN for New Belgium beers.

While i really like Fat Tire, i've become a big fan of 1554 and their Sunshine Wheat.

I received as a gift two bottles of 'Sink the Bismarck' by BrewDog. This beer holds the record for worlds strongest beer, ringing in at 41% ABV. Of course you cant purchase this in Ohio, with the ABV limitiations and all, so the only way to get this is through the brewery...in Scotland. Has anyone tried this "IPA" yet? I have this displayed on the bar next to the Dogfish Head 120's, I can't wait to try this.

How do they get the ABV so high? is it distilled? Or fortified?

They kettle hop, dry hop, and freeze hop. I've never heard of freeze hopping, but I would assume that's where the high ABV comes from.

Type of hopping has no impact on ABV (but it does affect IBU's)

But isn't the freeze hopping process essentially removing the ice and what your left with is a higher ABV?

A write up on it. Looks like they are freezing it to remove the water. The same way that I do when I pop a bottle of home brew in the freezer for a quick chill and then forget about it.And then drink what pours out of the ice? Who knew? I was practicing Advanced brewing techniques....

Honestly that doesn't even sound good.  It would be like carbonated whiskey.

^ you're right in that super gravity beers don't taste like beers at all. I've had the Dogfish Head 120, which is 20%, and it tastes alot like a brandy- boozy with a strong alcohol bite and hardly any hop taste.

I think the sweet spot is the in the 7%-9% ABV range. Like a  Brooklyn IPA....One of my favorites.

I agree on alcohol content, but not on Brooklyn making a good IPA. :)

Yeah I agree it's not a great traditional IPA.But there is something about that I love that kicks in on the second pint.Perhaps it's  that I have such emotional connecion and associate it with goodtimes that's why it's one of my favorites.

That's how I feel about Schlitz

1. We are brewing a beer called “Quitness,” which should be on tap within a week and be available only on draft for about a week to 10 days. It will be really bitter.

2. We are undergoing a multimillion dollar expansion of the brewery so we can keep up with demand and brew more Christmas Ale. Sales are way up, and we're going to continue to win (beer) championships.

3. We will be serving Christmas Ale at the Burning River Fest July 24-25 at the historic Coast Guard Station in Cleveland.

^ We used to freeze distill beer in college to make "Natty shots." Nasty, nasty stuff. In a nutshell, just freeze the cans and let the alcohol drip down out of the can.

At any rate, you can't really distill beer to make spirits. The hops taste comes through too strongly (whiskey is made with an unhopped wash of grains). Which makes me curious to try the 41% beer, although I could imagine it isn't all that good.

Question for y'all: I have an old-school kegerator that only takes Coors-style 1/2 barrels, meaning that Sanke kegs are too big for it. Before, I stuffed my corny kegs in there but now I don't really have time to homebrew anymore. Does anyone know what good beer comes in a fat, short 1/4 bbl Sanke? I wonder if I can get ahold of a 1/4bbl and have GLBC fill it up...

Mad Elf has destroyed me twice this season.  You cant handle more than 2 or 3, especially if you drink them like any beer.  They are sweet but have put my head in a vice a couple of times.

Where did you find them?  I'm trying Rozi's in Lakewood if I can get out at lunchtime for a bit.

Well.  Ross's in Lakewood has them.  You can get it on tap at Merry Arts.  Thats the only places ive seen them, but i havent really looked.

Hmm, a thread where I can just talk about Beer I like?  Great!

I recently had Founder's Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale and really enjoyed it.  Founders is always a solid choice...although I don't care for the Cherise at all.  Bell's two hearted is an amazing IPA but Fat Head's headhunter is my favorite... maybe because it's less available to me?  Fat head's also makes a beer called Sorcerer that I love.

I am NOT a Pabst fan and it surprises me that so many people are.  Glad to see that I have company in CBC.  My brother is a beer snob, who won't even give Sam Adams any credit... yet he likes pabst????  Sam Adams may not be the ultimate snob cred beer, but I do enjoy a share of their offerings.  As a bonus, they seem decent as a company in working with other breweries.

^ yeah thx for reviving this thread fellas i forgot about it!

i had a stone levitation draft last night. good, good stuff. it was the only beer on the taps not offered at happy hour prices, but well worth it.

anyway, i have a beer question. we had this friend in town last night from boston. he is a tech guy who had these crazy crazy stories about scoring and being gifted a santa rosa beer called pliny the elder. anyone ever have it or even see it on this side of the country? is it worth being obsessed about?

Argh, I thought you meant Rozi's.  They are out and not getting any more, except for a huge $70 bottle they have in stock.  I found one (1) at Friendly Mini Mart, then saw Ross's while driving back to work....no time to turn around.

I've heard my brother talk about it favorably but I have never seen or tried it.

Now, since we are talking about beers i've never tried... I'd say Brew Dog's End of History would be my "holy grail" beer.  Mostly because it's unattainable, and completely absurd in price and ABV... oh yeah, and costume.

The bottles seem to gross most people out.  I think they are awesome.

I think Pabst is what the hipsters like because it tastes better than Bud/miller/coors and is really cheap.  I personally would drink PBR, but not bud, miller or coors...after reading up on beers for the last year its unimaginable how anyone could drink that stuff.

my favorite beer may be Lake Erie Monster IPA.

The weird thing is, I actually will drink regular Budweiser.  I won't drink light though, I can't stand light beer.  There are a lot of festivals and such where the choices are Coors light, Miller and Budweiser.  Normally in those cases I go without, sometimes I just drink one of them.

I just can't get into these "good beers". These days, people will really hassle you if you only drink cheap stuff, but I just can't handle the strong flavors. I feel like I'm being bowled over usually. But, I never eat things like hot sauce, spicy foods, mayonnaise, ranch and tartar sauce either and don't drink coffee. Hell, I barely ever drink pop. On the other hand, I despise light beer because it makes me really hungry.

Budweiser and Busch are what I drink the most. Man, in the '80s Budweiser sponsored everything. You watch any motorsports from back then and it's like a really long Bud commercial. Even stuff that's aimed at children today, such as monster trucks, was a Budweiser festival. They also had dip trucks like the Skoal Crusher and Renegades instead of the puppy trucks you see these days.

Well, I did find this Russian beer called Baltika whose lager pretty much tastes like Budweiser, but better. There was definitely a quality difference, but of course it's $2.50 for a 50cl.

Its a milennial generation thing.  People who have been drinking bud products forever wont change now.  Beer can be like art.  Why settle for the painting at Marc's because it is cheap when you can get a piece of local art that nobody else has.  Beer is the same:  Why get bud for cheap when you can have a well crafted, tasty and unique beer brewed only at certain breweries.

I don't think PBR tastes any better than bud/miller, etc., but I also don't think this is a decision based on taste. I think it has to do with the fact that the beer was a popular 'working man's ' beer back associated with their parent's generation (how many of our dad's drank PBR? I know mine did), but it doesn't have the same commercial acceptance / market presence that the larger brand names have, thus increasing the edge component of it (I'm no elitist drinking a craft brew, I drink a working man's brew, but not a popular one, because I want to be unique...just like all of my friends).

If we're stereotyping hipsters (and why not...like I've sad before, it's fun!) I would say that it's another reason I don't like them, since they look down their noses (and through their big stupid glasses) at working joe's all while 'ironically' consuming products associated with them.

Bah! Hipsters!

I also think Pabst earns customer loyalty because Pabst awards sponsorship dollars to small time artists and indie bands.

Meanwhile, the big guys are throwing their ad dollars toward douchy commercials.

I dunno, I grew up (to the extent that I did at all) on Wiedemann and Colt .45, and my tastes are more diverse now....

^Are you a hipster?

I'm the opposite, but he said "people" not hipsters.  (obvious comment foregone.  :)  )

Yup, I started drinking if for that reason a long time ago, when I realized that I can't always afford micros.  Only later did I find out that drinking PBR was becoming hip.  Cool, I'm hip now.

I dont drink PBR, but if im trying to eat/drink cheap, i would do that instead of the bud/miller/coors.  Man, how can anyone drink that swamp water?

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but here goes...

Overrated and Overpriced Beer - Yuengling

I place Yuengling about on the PBR level (not exactly good, but not bad either), but PBR is much cheaper.  Yet people still salivate like rabid dogs over Yuengling like it's an Apple product or something.

Yeungling is better than PBR imo, and in Penn it's cheaper, too.  It's overpriced in Ohio.  I agree on that.

All I can say about Yeungling is that I'm glad it's starting to be carried at places that don't have any sort of craft beer on tap.  I was at Western Bowl for a birthday party last weekend and they had Yeungling and Budweiser products on tap.  Yeungling is a huge improvement over Bud Light, but I would definitely not go out of my way to get it anywhere.

The Jolly Scholar at Case Western in University Circle currently has 12 Holiday beers on draft...all for under $5 each.

They're running a special for a "12 days of Christmas" promotion of $1 off a rotating selection each night.

That's another new thing. People in college drinking expensive beers.
