14 inches and counting in Columbus by early afternoon on March 8.  Here's a few photos from my Clintonville neighborhood.  Post some of your photos!

Wow...doesn't look like any of your neighbors are going anywhere soon!

I'm just hoping it will be clear by Monday!

Just finished trying to clear my driveway.  Barely made a dent!  That snow is deep and heavy!

OK, here's my contribution. I walked the three blocks from my Lakewood condo to the CVS at West 117th and Clifton (West 117th is the dividing line between Cleveland and Lakewood).

I saw as many pedestrians making the walk as I did cars, etc. The snow and wind picked up on the way back from the store. Here are the pictures from my trek through the frozen tundra of Northeast Ohio....

RTA buses were running. This is the #55X on Clifton. I also saw a Lakewood Community Circulator detouring on Clifton -- Lake and Edgewater roads weren't passable...

Blizzard17s.jpg

Sometimes it was hard just to see across the street. Granted, Clifton is seven lanes wide, but geez!

Blizzard18s.jpg

The lady in this car got stuck trying get her car off Clifton. Lakewood (and other cities) were ticketing cars that parked on the street. She got a $35 ticket.

Blizzard19s.jpg

The branches down on the ground were felled by the ice storm last Tuesday (see photo thread "Ice-ice-baby"). I set down my groceries and helped push the stuck car free. Did my merit badge duty for the day...

The sun is now out here in Oxford. I went for a drive around the mile square and life seems to be getting back to normal. We only had 11.5 inches, however.

I guess posting these here is more appropriate than the other blizzard thread...

Here are a couple from the Near West Side of Cleveland about an 6 hours ago:

And then from about an hour ago when I went out to shovel my walk:

I'll admit that this is a snow drift, but it's only about 8" higher than the rest of my yard.

Now I know where you live!!!  :police:

How do you know that I didn't break into a vacant house and take those pictures???

And shovel the walkway to the vacant house? You may be crazy, but you're not THAT crazy!!

wow that blizzard is no joke. be careful out there.

OK, here's a few more. It's getting too cold and windy out there for arctic journeys. These were taken from the safety of my Lakewood balcony...

Looking east, toward downtown Cleveland. But you can't see a half-mile, let alone the five miles to downtown...

Looking north towards Clifton and the Day's Inn across the street (OK, now I've revealed where I live, ugh)....

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood...

Fun times.  Columbus officially recorded 5" yesterday and 15.4" today as of 5pm.  So the storm total is 20.4".  That's an amazing number.  Thanks for the pics!

Daaaaaang.

MapBoy, I think you live in the house next to the house where my sister used to live.

OK, I've the most awesome photo! And it happend right below my balcony -- it's still happening. A Lakewood city snowplow was clearing the alley behind my building when it got stuck. So the city brought in a front-end loader, hooked chains to the snowplow truck and are trying to drag it out. They've been at for about a half hour and the smell of burning rubber is starting to get repugnant. Anyway, this is what the scene looks like...

Walking along Murray Hill tonight, it felt the end-of-the-world type erie.  There was just a steady amount of pedestrians (15-20 in eye sight walking both ways) in the middle of the road since the side walks were over 3 feet deep due to the plowing.  Fun night all around.

It really did have the post-apocalyptic feel out there.... The masses were wandering in the middle of normally busy Clifton Boulevard without fear of getting run over. All were carrying groceries, or shovels or brooms. Kinda fun, actually. I'd probably be right at home in a Mad Max world!

BTW, downtown_jerome, great pics of Cincy! I especially like the montage of "closed due to weather" signs.

These were taken all right outside my house (I didn't venture far today) in the King-Lincoln District in Columbus:

Jeez! Cool houses. I love King-Lincoln.

After viewing these pictures, this is one time, I'm glad I couldn't get back to Cleveland.  It looks terrible.  I just got back to NYC and its sunny out, no snow anywhere.  Although yesterday it rained like hell.

My parents said South Park is a mess but people are out with their cross county skis.  My nephew got stuck in a snow bank trying to catch a bird.  Now the kids are off to the Cain Park Hill and I'm sure it will be packed with thousands of kids as it's a sleder's paradise.

Great photos!

Viewing the pics of Cleveland gives me mixed feelings; part of me wishes I could be there with my camera, and a bigger part of me is glad that I'm not.

I don't understand why the city is so strict about getting the parked cars off Clifton, at least until the peak of the emergency has passed. Although the parked cars might get buried in the process, Clifton seems wide enough that they could still plow out enough traffic lanes to accomodate essential traffic. Unless the residents have sufficient off-street parking and just don't use it, it seems like imposing an unnecessary hardship on them.

i was wondering the exact same thing rob you beat me to it. why add to the aggravation?

kjp i see you have a new cat, is that so? we're still debating, but we are getting a mouse now and then so maybe thats speeding up the decision.

keep the blizzard pics coming people!

Wow! Amazing! Somebody got a picture of a City of Columbus truck with the plow not only mounted,  but actually lowered so as to push snow from the pavement. Alert the media!

More pics. As you might guess, I'm a snow freak. I love snowstorms -- actually my love is for when Mother Nature slaps mankind in the face and growls "You're my bitch -- remember that!"

(mrnyc - there are no new additions to the "family" since Oct. 2006. I've always keep two kitties, just that I had a very bad run of luck from April 2005 to October 2006 when I lost three cats.)

Anyway, on with the aftermath. These are scenes along my drive Sunday midday from Lakewood to Brecksville...

This mound of snow outside my building's garage on Clifton was probably the largest pile I saw all day!

The City does a good job for the resources they have alloted for snow removal. We don't get a heavy snow like this in Columbus every year. It would be a waste of money to pay for more trucks and plows to sit on the sidelines the rest of the time.

Columbus Average Yearly Snowfall = 27.6 inches

We had a record breaking 20 inches fall on us on Friday and Saturday.

im gonna still say that the valentines day snowstorm last year was a little bit worse than this one for Cleveland.  altho anyone see the article on CNN??  the photo was taken on euclid hts blvd in cleveland heights across the street from me:

^Is that dude using a squeegie mop to clear off his rear windshield?

MayDay, it looks like Tremont got a dusting compared to other parts of Cleveland!

Nice shots all around team!

"im gonna still say that the valentines day snowstorm last year was a little bit worse than this one for Cleveland."

Having shoveled the drive and sidewalk during both, I heartily disagree. We definitely got about 18-20 inches in Tremont, and 2 to 3 feet in the drifts - last year I think we got about 12 to 14 inches - I'll always remember "14 on the 14th".

Anyhoo, some pics from Tremont and downtown:

should be taken care of by Friday... it's supposed to be in the 50s!  Snow again on Saturday, though.

Gotta love March.

and Mayday, that little Otterness (sp?) guy buried up to his little midrift in snow is priceless.

I beg to disagree. I see far more trucks with no plows or with plows raised than those actually plowing snow. So the trucks are out there and the worker are already earning their pay -- so they should actually be plowing the snow rather than driving over it.

^ I also have heard lots of Columbusites complain about the blades-up phenomenon.

Columbus' snow readiness is an absolute joke, and not the "ha ha" kind either, if you catch my drift (get it)?

Whoa, I'm not taking any photos of this white out!

Racist!

That's really cool. What part of Over-the-Rhine is that? Would that be Liberty st.?

Just when I think that I can't stand it here anymore, I see pictures of a blizzard and suddenly it seems like paradise here!  The pictures really give a good idea of the depth.

Beautiful, but can't really imagine having to deal with that, especially driving.

At the very least, Ohio (Columbus in particular) was all over the national news this past weekend. My sister and her husband were here in SF this past weekend....they timed their trip perfectly!

Only a racist would refer to a First American as "red."

Yes that is Liberty st looking west. Historically it is OTR (Pendleton) but today it is within the Prospect Hill boundaries.

We need some more Cincy representation on here ... did no one else take photos?!

Here's my contribution.  This is from Sunday morning before the kids got out there and messed it all up.

DCP_1155sm.jpg

When it was all over, I think the snow was only about 8" deep.  We probably had more snow than that, but we had a lot of sleet Saturday morning that compressed the 4-6" we got Friday afternoon.

JRC where do you live?
