November 28, 200717 yr Having gone to Ohio State I am still hoping the Bucks sneak into the title game, but having grown up a UC fan this does not sit well with me at all. Those damn losses to Louisville and Pitt really hurt, but I think there was concern of how the Bearcat fans would travel. I think in Charlotte against another BCS school they would have done well(not sure UCONN and USF travel especially well either). Now it looks like, as you pointed out, the 23rd ranked team in the BCS gets the 4th place CUSA team - that should be enough to rally the fans....
November 28, 200717 yr It is really embarrassing the way we were treated to be honest. The Papa Johns.com Bowl is the lowest level bowl there is...it has the lowest payout of any of the bowl games (300k). Last year the Bearcats got 750k at the International Bowl, and we had 7 wins with a weaker schedule. This is really a slap in the face, and all Bearcat fans should be insulted.
November 28, 200717 yr Author Did UC rejoin C-USA? When is the "Papa John's Bowl" played? Yesterday? October 4? It's all about the money, folks. Apparently it doesn't matter what teams do on the field. It's how their fans travel. Unbelievable.
November 30, 200717 yr If you are a student, the Athletics Department is looking to get some sponsorships and get a really good financial deal for students to go to the game. What you need to do is call the ticket office, send UC Bearcat a message on Facebook, or go online. Just give your name and UC student ID number and you'll be put on a list of interested students. THE MORE THE BETTER! Bearcat Ticket Office: 1-877-CATS-TIX Order Online ***From what I've been hearing...if you have to pay anything, it most likely won't be anymore than something like $60 for the whole trip (tix, travel, lodging).

December 15, 200717 yr Nice work fans...keep on buying up those tickets! This is going to be a great atmosphere, can't wait. Bowl Tickets at 8,300 and Counting Bearcat Nation sets record sales number for trip to Birmingham December 14, 2007 | BEARCATS CMAIL UPTOWN - A record number of Bearcats will be making the trip to Birmingham for the upcoming Papajohns.com Bowl as the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics has sold and allocated more than 8,300 tickets out of its allotment of 10,000 for the game. UC's previous record for bowl ticket sales was set for the 2000 Motor City Bowl, when the school sold 4,787 tickets. The 2007 ticket sales effort represents an increase of 73 percent over the 2000 bowl sales total. “I could not be more pleased with the way that our fans have answered the call,” says 2007 BIG EAST Coach of the Year Brian Kelly. [glow=yellow,2,300]“This football team has won nine games, set school records on offense and defense, and has generated several all-Americans, but the most memorable part of the season for anyone associated with our program was seeing Nippert Stadium sold out on three occasions. I cannot wait to run out of the tunnel at Legion Field and see our fans all clad in black as we take on Southern Miss and go for a school-record 10th win of the season – it is going to be great!”[/glow] The Bearcats will take on Southern Mississippi in the bowl which will be played at historic Legion Field on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2. “Bearcats fans recognize the 2007 season has been a very special one for our program and have answered the call to support the program and make plans to be with our team in Birmingham,” says UC Director of Athletics Mike Thomas. “We have a great lineup of activities for Bearcats young and old making this bowl experience in the Magic City one that our fans will be able to look back on with pride for many years to come. Coach Kelly has the team ready to battle for its 10th win of the season and I could not be more excited to see our team in action once again.” [glow=yellow,2,300]Tickets are still available for the game and can be purchased by logging on to www.CATSTIX.com. [/glow] [glow=yellow,2,300]Fans planning on attending the game in Birmingham should purchase tickets from the UC Athletics Ticket Office as it will ensure that they will be seated in the designated UC sections at Legion Field (Sections 31-35) and will help send a strong message to all bowl committees that Bearcats Nation is a viable postseason football force.[/glow] UC Fans not planning on attending the game are encouraged to purchase tickets and donate them back to the UC Athletics as the department will use the tickets to provide opportunities for UC students and other charities in the Greater Birmingham Area. These donations further assist the University in meeting its bowl-mandated ticket obligation, which will better position UC for bowl opportunities in the years to come. To date, a total of seven UC Student Busses are scheduled to make the trek to the bowl game, and more than 24 busses in all are scheduled to leave from the Greater Cincinnati Area in the days leading up to Game Day: No. 13 of the 2007 season. Once in Birmingham there will be a host of events that have been planned for the Bearcats Nation by the UC campus community. Kicking off the trip to Birmingham, Ala. is the Bearcats Legion Field Walk-Through on Friday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. The Papajohns.com Bowl is allowing fans to have a once in a lifetime opportunity and attend the Bearcats' final practice before the game at the historic Legion Field vs. Southern Mississippi on Dec. 22. As an added bonus, fans will be able to pose with the UC team for a special bowl photo. Fans will enter Legion Field at the south end of the stadium where UC clad personnel will welcome you to the venue. From 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the historic Five Points Area of Birmingham, fans can take part in the Papajohns.com Bowl Street Fair, Parade and Pep Rally. There, the City of Birmingham will showcase one of the premier party areas in the city with live entertainment, followed by a parade into the area from Powell Ave. and a pep rally. December 20, 200717 yr So...who on here is heading down to Birmingham for the bowl game? I'll be leaving tomorrow morning around 7am, and then be arriving back in Cincy about 3am Sunday morning via charter bus.
January 29, 200817 yr UC's Brian Kelly wins five-year contract BY DAN MONK | January 29, 2008 University of Cincinnati trustees have approved a new five-year contract that gives football coach Brian Kelly a $1.8 million raise and requires UC to build two new practice fields and a temporary dome over Nippert Stadium by the end of 2009. The changes would boost Kelly's total salary to $6.3 million, while his assistants would split a combined salary increase of about $150,000, according to Mitchell McCrate, UC's interim general counsel. Both the salary increases and an estimated $5 million cost of new practice facilities would be funded through gifts to the UC athletic program. If the new practice facilities are not completed in time, the cost of Kelly's buyout clause would be reduced by 50 percent - giving the coach flexibility to move to a new job. February 14, 200817 yr Mauk had a great tunure, and earned lots of respect for the way he handled himself after coming back from the injury he suffered. Best of luck for Mauk. Kelly: 'We're disappointed' NCAA denies Mauk's request for extra season BY BILL KOCH | February 14, 2008 University of Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk never wanted to sit out his freshman year at Wake Forest. “It’s not like I went into Coach (Jim) Grobe’s office and said, “Hey, coach, I want to sit out this year, I don’t want to play,’ ” Mauk said Thursday. “Coming in as a freshman, I wanted to play. Obviously, you never want to sit out. I thought I could help the team out and I wasn’t allowed to play, so I thought it was out of my control.” In fact, Mauk wanted to play so badly that he called his dad and high school coach, Mike Mauk, to tell him how much he wanted to be on the field. “He called me several times that year and said, ‘Dad, I’m ready to play. I’m ready to go,’ ” Mike Mauk said. But Grobe and his staff had other plans. Five years later, those plans have cost Mauk the chance to secure his fourth year of eligibility, with the NCAA denying Mauk’s request for a waiver to play next season. NCAA rules dictate that a student-athlete has five years to play four. Mauk and UC had sought a waiver of that rule to allow him a sixth year because of a 2006 injury that wiped out most of his season. February 15, 200817 yr That's too bad. Ben Mauk had a great season this year and finally got to show his talent.
July 21, 200816 yr Bearcat Football is a little over a month away.... First game is Aug. 28 vs EKU. Mauk was denied his several appeals last I heard. We're being underrated again this year. Many other Big East team fans think UC should be 2nd or 3rd this season though in Conference. Any thoughts...?
July 21, 200816 yr I could see the Bearcats finishing anywhere in the top 3 in the Big East this year. But of course we're being underrated, again, by the national media. They do this every year to the Big East football schools, then next thing you know we're running the table in bowl games and "upsetting" the preeminent powers.
July 21, 200816 yr Coach Kelly was on 96 Rock this morning and I thought he mentioned something about how they are still waiting on a decision by the NCAA about Ben Mauk. I'm not sure if I heard it right though cause I was at work.

August 16, 200816 yr If Mauk had been reinstated I would've had UC winning the Big East, I still think they will do fine, but it's probably WestbyGod's to lose and that pains me to say. However, the 'billies lost a coach and with it have a new direction, I'm not certain they can translate the Fiesta Bowl win to this season. At least I hope not. Moreover, UC will lose to Miami because LOL.
September 9, 200816 yr Sounds like Grutza will be out for most of the year now with a high ankle sprain. So that means our 1st and 2nd string QBs are both essentially out for the year. Time for the young guys to step it up. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=blog04&plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3ada6629a0-7bd0-4605-8869-25a20cb5adabPost%3a666d8119-5aa9-409b-acaf-ae30d969775f&plckCommentSortOrder=TimeStampAscending&sid=sitelife.cincinnati.com
October 13, 200816 yr CBS is projecting out that UC will win the Big East and go to the Orange Bowl game in Miami, FL. It is also being reported that if healthy, Tony Pike will start against UConn over Chazz Anderson. It sounds like Pike is the starter for the rest of the year barring injury. Grutza will be #2 when he returns and Anderson #3. Although Kelly is saying that when Grutza returns that he will have to factor that into the equation.
October 13, 200816 yr I see no reason why we shouldn't win out our season and get a great BCS Bowl in a sunny weather locale.
October 30, 200816 yr So who's attending tonight's game against South Florida? I'm looking forward to a good game. Let's pick up those INTs.
October 30, 200816 yr I'll be there.... with the band... in a white coat. Should be a good game. I have to be there from 4:30 til end of game. :-)
November 9, 200816 yr Oy vey! How UC pulled that one out is beyond my pale. Good for the Bearcats. Get two Ohio schools in the BCS!

November 9, 200816 yr So much for taking a safety. They didn't get that great of a kick, and it would have been better to punt from the end zone.
November 9, 200816 yr It's good to see big city names in the top 25. We usually just hear names of the whole state.
November 9, 200816 yr It's good to see big city names in the top 25. We usually just hear names of the whole state. haha... agreed... it's a rarity... Pittsburgh, Cincinnati... and I guess Tulsa... are the only city names in the Top 25
November 10, 200816 yr I'm not real sure how Pitt is ranked above UC. Either way, while it is technically a 3-way tie for 1st in the Big East only Pitt and UC control their own destiny. And that destiny gets broken for someone at Nippert Stadium on November 22nd.
November 10, 200816 yr ^We've given up more points against than points we've scored in conference. Pitt has the clear upper hand.
November 11, 200816 yr Bearcats 7-2 (3-1): Big Wins - Rutgers, #23 South Florida, #20/25 West Virginia Losses - #2 Oklahoma, Connecticut Panthers 7-2 (3-1): Big Wins - #10 South Florida, Notre Dame, Louisville Losses - Bowling Green, Rutgers Pittsburgh's wins have been by bigger margins, but their losses are more embarassing. A 10-point loss at home to Bowling Green is far worse than even the Bearcats' drubbing on the road at Connecticut. Likewise, the Panthers' 20 point loss to Rutgers at home looks far worse than the Bearcats' 26 point loss on the road against the then #2 Oklahoma. It's pretty even and really the only point of this debate is the debate itself. Everything will be settled on the field in two weeks at Nippert Stadium.
November 11, 200816 yr but South Florida was ranked #10 when Pitt traveled there and defeated the Bulls Pitt also beat Iowa... which beat Penn State Iowa's a much better team than Louisville (who is awful this year)

November 13, 200816 yr Not sure if this is permitted, but I have 2 student guest tickets for the November 22nd UC vs. Pitt game. I am no longer able to attend the game, so I'm selling them for $12 each to cover online processing fees. If you're interested, shoot me a PM.
November 15, 200816 yr The Bearcats are 1 step closer to winning the Big East title. Next week's game against Pittsburgh will probably decide the champion.
November 16, 200816 yr The bearcats have had a great run the past few years. I can't say the same for the basketball team. They should have kept Huggins.
November 16, 200816 yr I can't say the same for the basketball team. They should have kept Huggins. This was more so a problem of not selecting a replacement immediately. We missed out on like 2 straight recruiting classes. We have lots of young talent right now and should be very competitive in the Big East. It's a lot easier to look good in C-USA than the Big East. The basketball team might finish 8th or so in the conference and still make the NCAA tourny as 10 teams could possibly make it from the Big East this year. Huggins had some of the most amazing talent during the 90's and didn't manage to win one National Championship. That's embarassing.
