November 2, 200915 yr #5 in the BCS... Iowa is going to get creamed by OSU, and the SEC will self implode like it always does. Pasadena is a real possibility... Cincy v. Texas anyone?
November 2, 200915 yr That's not realistic, sorry. Iowa is likely going to beat OSU (though I obviously hope OSU wins) and Florida OR Alabama will likely be going to Pasadena, versus Texas. Cincinnati, I'm guessing, will go to the Fiesta Bowl (which, HELLO, is still great). November 2, 200915 yr Again, Fiesta Bowl (an Ohio-friendly stadium/state) against, well, Boise State/TCU...or maybe Florida/Alabama loser. Rose Bowl will be Iowa vs. Oregon. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 3, 200915 yr That's not realistic, sorry. Iowa is likely going to beat OSU (though I obviously hope OSU wins) and Florida OR Alabama will likely be going to Pasadena, versus Texas. Cincinnati, I'm guessing, will go to the Fiesta Bowl (which, HELLO, is still great). OSU has nothing to lose playing Iowa in the C'bus. It will be a good game, but it's realistic to say OSU will beat them. They may even be a favorite, at home. Florida and Alabama have both already played games they should have lost. Florida has had some major help from the guys in stripes to be perfect right now. It's a very real possibility for both of those teams to end the season with a loss. I think Texas is the best team in football right now. I don't see them losing. It's not likely both SEC teams will lose, but it's a real possibility. Any loss this late in the season will throw any team out of the mix.
November 3, 200915 yr Hey, I want OSU to beat Iowa. But we all know it's going to be an SEC/Big 12 showdown for the "top conference" again. I think Cincinnati should be very happy they are going to a BCS Bowl (unless they lose in a freakish Purdue sort of way). November 3, 200915 yr Florida and Alabama have both already played games they should have lost. Florida has had some major help from the guys in stripes to be perfect right now. It's a very real possibility for both of those teams to end the season with a loss. I think Alabama has LSU, so certainly potential for a loss there, plus the automatic loss one of them will face in the conference title. Three unbeaten teams is not that many to fall. It's happened before, and then some. Texas is the one least likely to lose anything, so it comes down to the other three losing. And lose they must. Cincinnati probably won't make it unless Alabama, Florida, and Iowa lose. OSU has nothing to lose playing Iowa in the C'bus. It will be a good game, but it's realistic to say OSU will beat them. They may even be a favorite, at home. If OSU's defense is on fire and Pryor doesn't screw up, I don't think Iowa has a chance in Columbus. But Pryor has been known to screw up... I think you summed it up well. It will take 3 losses, but crazier things have happened. The next few weeks I see myself being not only a fan of UC, but of LSU, OSU, and South Carolina. ESPN put the odds at UC in the BCS title game at 15 - 1.
November 3, 200915 yr Cincy won't make the NC game.....A one loss Ala or Fla will make it ahead of them. Texas and Boise st probably won't lose either, look at their remaining schedule. You're probably right, but an undefeated UC will be higher than an undefeated Boise State. In any case I doubt UC will make the championship game, but it is VERY good for the program to be in the discussion.
November 4, 200915 yr I think an undefeated UC could still end up ahead of an undefeated Iowa, and would definitely be ahead of TCU and Boise. Of course none of it matters if the top 3 do not lose. Here's to the 'Cats finishing strong, and as Kelly says, as long as they keeping winning everything will take care of itself.
November 4, 200915 yr Wouldn't it be better for UC to go to a lesser BCS game and actually have a chance, rather than go to the National Championship and get destroyed by Florida/Texas?
November 4, 200915 yr Wouldn't it be better for UC to go to a lesser BCS game and actually have a chance, rather than go to the National Championship and get destroyed by Florida/Texas? This is not the UC of past. lol
November 7, 200915 yr And Iowa goes down, finally. They've been winning games they shouldn't have all season along. All UC needs to do is keep winning now, and hope for just two more losses by the 3 teams ahead of them... Looking forward to the blackout and national spotlight at Nippert tonight.
November 7, 200915 yr I'll be at the game tonight. Should be a great atmosphere! I'm also DVRing the game at home. I want to see what Herbie and the TV gang have to say during the game. Nippert should look awesome on TV!
November 8, 200915 yr Seems the Defense is playing worse every week and the offense is getting better every week. They need to have both to win a national championship.
November 8, 200915 yr Short week. WVU will be tough. Pitt will be the toughest challenge we've had this year. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
November 8, 200915 yr Nippert looks Bowling Greenish too me, but that Collaros kid can play.. The press box is possibly the only bad looking thing in the Nip. I always love the nationally televised games, it's standard procedure to mention skyline chili, and show the stadium the day before with the announcers shocked that students cut through it on the way to class. There also has to be at least one riverboat cut scene shot.
November 8, 200915 yr UC probably looks more impressive televised at night than during the day. Looks like they put a camera on top of Calhoun or Scioto as a poor-man's blimp shot. The setting looks way more urban on TV than in real life.
November 8, 200915 yr ^ I love Nippert a lot, especially at night games... but c'mon C-Dawg... get off your knees, it sounds like you're being paid.
November 9, 200915 yr OK, I'm not smart enough to know what "elite teams" do (seems to me they probably do a wide variety of things, but the main one is winning), and I'm not certain arguing about Nippert's urbanness or cool factor is that interesting. But, I have to admit that when I have visitors come to UC's campus, they almost invariably comment about how nifty it is that we have a stadium nestled in a hole in the middle of campus. The most recent example were two graduate students from U. Michigan, of all places, who couldn't stop from saying how amazed they were that the stadium "was, like, right there, in the middle of everything." I guess that that is pretty unusual.
November 9, 200915 yr ^ Agreed. Nippert really takes advantage of the natural topography in a way that no other stadium does... Most sports venues tower above the surrounding area, forcing passers-by to look at padlocked gates and the unsightly underside of the bleachers: Franklin Field, University of Pennsylvania But save for the press box and the upper level on the east side of Nippert, the whole thing is neatly tucked below the surrounding street level. It's almost like a Roman ampitheater in that regard.
November 9, 200915 yr Elite teams do not give up 45 points at home to a 4-4 team win. There... I fixed that for you.
November 9, 200915 yr 50% of the Big East is in the AP's Top 25 this week... that's up from 0% in the preseason ranking... 25% of the Big East is in the Top 8! GO PITT!
November 9, 200915 yr Elite teams do not give up 45 points at home to a 4-4 team win. There... I fixed that for you. No you didn't........A shaky win vs an average team is why TCU passed UC.
November 9, 200915 yr Elite teams do not give up 45 points at home to a 4-4 team win. There... I fixed that for you. No you didn't........A shaky win vs an average team is why TCU passed UC. Just like Florida's shaky win over average Arkansas, Alabama's shaky win over average Tennessee, Texas's shaky win over average Oklahoma, and TCU's shaky wins over average Air Force and Clemson?
November 9, 200915 yr Elite teams do not give up 45 points at home to a 4-4 team. LOL, all credibility of your future comments is now out the window. Name one "elite team" that hasn't managed to barely escape a loss at least a couple times this season. Then, remind yourself that UCONN's 5 losses are by a combined 15 points. At least try to be reasonable.
November 9, 200915 yr Elite teams do not give up 45 points at home to a 4-4 team. Your right, elite teams just loose to Purdue. Seriously, what do you have to gain from hating UC?
November 9, 200915 yr Interesting stat: Of the top 10 BCS teams, only UC has beaten 2 other BCS ranked teams (USF and Oregon St.), and still has 2 BCS ranked teams to go (WVU and Pittsburgh).
November 9, 200915 yr Hows Cleveland state doing this year? Pretty good actually. Lots of construction going on. New student center on the way. Same with Education building. Just broke ground on new dorms. Still talk of adding a football team, but then where would OSU get all of its talent? ;) Thanks for asking. Feel better now? Getting back to Bearcat football, UC is having an unbelievable season. A statue needs to be erected in Kelly's honor before you lose him to a bigger program. I hope they make it to a BCS, but not the NC game.
November 11, 200915 yr AP - Collaros will start for Cincinnatti It's official for Friday's game, and I love the spelling from the AP headline. One game at a time, and I hope the defense and special teams do not fall asleep in this one.
November 28, 200915 yr Another week, another Bearcats win. On an unrelated note, I'll add that my hometown high school football team is also undefeated, and headed to the state finals again. Go Bluebirds!
November 29, 200915 yr The program is coming along nicely. This was a solid effort, good job Bearcats.
November 29, 200915 yr It was a good win, now the big game at Pittsburgh next week. I have a feeling there will be a good UC crowd in Heinz Field for the game, myself and a few buddies included.
November 30, 200915 yr Looks like we're rooting for a Texas loss against Nebraska. A win against Pitt will put us up and over TCU. Both combined will likely put us into the NC game, as Florida and Alabama will give the other the boot from the NC game...most likely.
November 30, 200915 yr I am no football fan, but I had to watch my alma matter, UC on national TV Friday. How common is it that a team go all season with only one fumble?
