So I've been trying to sell my 2 tickets for two days now.  I guess people aren't biting because it's going to rain.

I hope people actually show up for the game.  Otherwise, it'll say something about our fanbase.

How was the crowd?  Was it a sellout?

Keep on battling Bearcats, only bright spot in the sh*tty Cincinnati athletic scene

I'm not sure if it was a sellout but there was a good crowd. I think I heard around 33k showed up.

Just saw the AP ranking. I think this is the highest Cincinnati has ranked in history. I'd imagine every game will (should) be a sellout now. Nippert is one of the best, most urban football stadiums in America. Go Bearcats! If only they played Ohio State this year...I'd bet money they would be the first FBS school in Ohio to beat OSU (then again, that OSU defense did just complete back-to-back shutouts against decent offenses). I guess we won't know until they meet again...

If only Ohio State would man up and play UC at the Nip.  With the way they've been playing the past few years, UC should be able to get some decent schools to play a home and away series, rather than getting paid to make trips to Oklahoma, OSU, etc.

The Oklahoma game next year is at PBS, which for me almost ruins the home field effect.  As nice as PBS is, Nippert is one of my all time favorite stadiums.  It's the only one I've ever been to that fits perfectly into a community.  It's sunken position also makes it loud.. despite holding half as many people as PBS I've heard it be just as loud.

We all know why OSU wouldn't go to Nippert...the stadium is too small.  Ohio State is all about the $$$ dinero $$$.  If you ain't bringin' the big "bucks," then you ain't on the radar.  Now if they played at PBS against UC, then I'd LOVE to see that...

UC and OSU played at PBS in around 02 or 03. One or the other. UC almost upset OSU in the game.

^ I was at that game and didn't like the atmosphere compared to Nippert.  What I'm saying is UC is good enough that they will be able to find quality opponents, and if OSU or anyone else refuses to play at Nippert because it's too small.. then UC can find better opponents.

Although beating up on the perpetually overrated Buckeyes would make for a fun time.

Remind me when UC "beats up" OSU and I'll remind you when the Millennium Tower in Newport will go up.

^They played Toledo at Cleveland Browns Stadium, so I see no reason they can't play at Paul Brown Stadium. And yes, it's true Ohio State (and the other most popular teams) won't generally go to a stadium under 50,000 capacity. They do try to play in only the largest stadiums. Ohio State fans travel...

Bingo.  Nippert is too small for any of the "big league" programs to play in outside the Big East.  It would have to be played at PBS.

^It might be possible if OSU wasn't scared to play the Bearcats.  I totally get it since Cincinnati is a huge recruiting market for them and Notre Dame so they don't want to jeopardize that.  But at the same time, OSU buffs shouldn't puff out their chest and proclaim their superiority all the damn time.

^Now why would OSU be scared to play UC? They played them a few years ago at PBS and won.  The Bearcats were a complete joke of a football program up until about 4 years ago, and as you said, the non conference games are scheduled years in advance, so I highly doubt the Bucks are scared to play the Bearcats.  They consistantly play the likes of USC, and Texas, and they don't seem too scared to play them...

The Bearcats are scheduled to play Ohio State in 2012 and 2014, both at OSU, in exchange for $500,000 plus travel expenses.

But I agree with Randy, an OSU loss in Cincinnati would be huge to them in terms of recruiting.  For years high school kids would remember something like that.

And ColDayMan, all we can hope for this year is an all-Ohio BCS bowl...  if so you'll have to start building the Millennium Tower yourself.

I still don't get the "it's too small" argument against Nippert.  The visiting team still gets allotted a decent amount of tickets, and doesn't make a profit from sales anyways.  What do they care how many fans the home team can stuff into their stadium?

I'm not trying to tough talk OSU or their fans, but it's true.  OSU has nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing UC.  When UC was a nobody program there was little risk of losing and if it did happen it didn't occur while UC was a top-ranked program fighting for BCS bids.  At this time a loss to UC would be a major blow to OSU's recruiting out of southwest Ohio which feeds the Buckeyes a lot of top talent.

BTW, anybody else going to the game in Oxford?

I should probably get one of those t-shirts they are selling.

The 2012 game was to be played at PBS, but OSU opted out in 2008. With UC's continued success, the 2014 game will probably be the last between the two teams, baring a Bowl game. I bet OSU will continue to schedule the likes of Miami, Toledo, Bowling Green...

^Love this quote from the article:

"I agree with Mike Thomas that playing future games on an even playing field will be an important factor in scheduling for the future," continued Kelly. "This course of action is consistent with my philosophy that Cincinnati will play anyone, anywhere, at anytime."

Translation: UC's not scared of OSU, and will make it work to play them any possible way.

The Bearcats just closed out the game against Miami winning 37-13.  Lots of dropped passes today and the offense didn't look all that crisp.  The defense got stronger as the game went on and just shut down Miami in the 4th Quarter - nice adjustments made at half.

The team improves to 5-0 on the season and has now won the Victory Bell four straight years, and five out of the last six.  It's also worth noting that at times it sounded like the Bearcats had the home field advantage while playing in Oxford.

It was a fun game. It got a little scary with Miami nearly putting up another score to make it close but Cincy did what needed to be done and got the ball and shut them down.

I want that all-Ohio BCS National Championship. It think it is possible. Given Cincinnati's schedule and dominance over the milquetoast Big East, they can go undefeated. Ohio State could go one-loss as long as they can keep up that killer defense.

Can you imagine?! Ahhhhhhgggggggg!

Jumped over OSU -> #8 in the AP poll.  How awesome is that??

The next game is going to be huge and possibly the biggest of the year.  The undefeated Bearcats (#8) will play South Florida (#23) who is also undefeated down in Tampa on ESPN.  A road win there would be huge and might push the Bearcats into the top 5 nationally depending on what some of the other teams do ahead of us over the next two weeks.

^ Well, we know that either Florida or LSU is going to lose so that opens a spot up.

OSU is definately not scared to play the Bearcats.  We just have bigger fish to fry ;).

Yes like Toledo, Navy and New Mexico State.

Be careful.  Toledo might actually beat Cincinnati sometime...

Toledo is respectable, but I doubt we schedule them any time soon.  Something about frying other fish.

If they stay neck and neck in the polls couldn't they play each other in a bowl game?

^ Not Likely

Who would ever think that a win over South Florida would push a team into the Top 5?  What has college football been reduced to??

What are the records of the opponents for both OSU and UC?

I'm not a fan of OSU (they're up among my most hated list) but i don't see how it's possible that UC could be ranked higher.

Has UC beaten any ranked teams this year? How tough is their schedule?

UC is ranked higher in the AP poll not the coaches.  The BCS poll hasn't even been released yet. Until that comes out I wouldn't be worrying too much about where tOSU or UC is ranked.  I don't know why this has turned into a bucks vs bearcats discussion.  Can't everyone be happy that 2 teams from Ohio are ranked in the top 10? I am........Also the team from up north is out of the top 25 where they belong.

I'm not happy with any team in Ohio being in the top 25...but, that's just me personally.

as far as schedules: UC has played Ruters (3-1), South East Missouri State (1-4), Oregon State (3-2), Fresno State (1-3), Miami OH (0-5).

Ohio State has played: Navy (3-2), USC (4-1), Toledo (3-2), Illinois (1-3), and Indiana (3-2).

Notice it's the Bearcat fans in this thread that are the ones pointing at OSU.  We just have to defend the joint (OSU) because of their second-university complex ;).

It would be nice if both teams do well, without bagging on each other.  They are in different conferences, would be cool to have both of them owning their respective conferences.  Besides, it's not like Ohio will become the Bearcat state if they do well.  I say enjoy the run while they have Brian Kelly, it's only a matter of time..

Then why are you talking about the Ohio teams? Plus, UC has won all of their games pretty straight forward while OSU barely escaped Navy and lost to USC. I root for both teams but UC comes first.

I don't typically care to comment...but, i do think that it's ridiculous that UC is ranked so high after playing a pretty lousy schedule.

If this thread is only for boosters, then i'll stay out of it.  I didn't know criticism would be taken so poorly.

^ There is a lot to be said for finding a way to win all of your games.  It counts for a lot in college football, no matter who you play.

Anyways, the huge win against Rutgers (the preseason pick to win the BigEast) on the road to start things out propelled UC into the likes of the other preseason favorites (like Ohio State).  Plus, the people ranking the teams have the job of watching and knowing the teams.  UC's offense has been outstanding and is a big part of why they are ranked so high.. it looks like an offense that could compete with any defense any team could put out there.

What is better for the city of Cincinnati?  A top ten Bearcat football team or a top ten Bearcat basketball team? Which team is a bigger driver of economic activity for the city?

It appears that the basketball team has dropped off the edge of the earth over the past few years.

Tony Pike was interviewed this morning on ESPN.  Nice Bearcat exposure.

Has UC beaten any ranked teams this year? How tough is their schedule?

Rutgers was on the edge of being ranked before we went in there on week 1 and ripped them apart.  Many people have stated that it's somewhat of a joke that no Big East teams were ranked in the preseason poll.  If that had been the case then maybe we would have had a win over a ranked opponent there.

We beat then #23 Oregon State (Pac-10) on the road, and we'll be traveling to play undefeated South Florida who is currently ranked #23.  Fresno State was also no joke of a game.  They should have beaten Wisconsin in Madison and stood their ground against Boise State on the road.

By the end of the season the Bearcats probably will have played 4 or 5 ranked teams with the possibility of both Pittsburgh and West Virginia being ranked by the time we play them.  What has been impressive so far is UC's complete dominance over their opponents...while they're not all top 25 teams, all except for Miami and SEMO have been within the top 40.

Most AP voters are hacks and regional loyalists  Check out Doug's votes from the peedee and you'll see why I pay no attention to the AP poll.  There's a reason the AP poll was thrown out of the BCS formula.

One AP writer's poll.  Miami at #8 after they got destroyed by Va tech?  Boise St ahead of florida and Cincy ahead of texas. Iowa # 10.  Come on now.  I've seen way worse out there. This is one example.

1. Alabama

2. Boise State

3. Florida

4. Cincinnati

5. LSU

6. Texas

7. Auburn

8. Virginia Tech

9. Miami

10. Iowa

11. USC

12. Oregon

13. Ohio State

14. TCU

15. Georgia Tech

16. South Florida

17. BYU

18. Wisconsin

19. Missouri

20. Kansas

21. Stanford

22. Penn State

23. Boston College

24. Houston

25. Oklahoma State

#1 Florida, #2 Texas, #8 Cincinnati, #9 Ohio State, #10 TCU, #14 Penn State, #16 Kansas, #17 Auburn, #19 Oklahoma, #20 Ole Miss, #21 Nebraska, #24 Mizzou. All of these teams have either lost to a ranked team (twice for Oklahoma) or just haven't played one yet (Cincy plays #23 South Florida in week 7). According to diaspora and Clefan98 none of them deserve their rankings right?

So you don't like either team because I root for both of them? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Their is a difference between criticism and ignorance. Do you hate all of the other schools listed about because they haven't beaten ranked teams?

Only 25 teams out of 120 can be ranked. No team can play a ranked one every weekend people. Preseason rankings are pure speculation anyways.

Yeah... the AP sued....

Personally, I am glad both are doing well, although having gone to OSU I am sometimes amused at the sense of entitlement regarding football.  Especially since I saw some relatively bad teams.  I do think it is silly to argue about who is better since they do not play regularly and are in different conferences.

Here is a less biased ranking, which is more along the lines of what the BCS ranking is (where UC is 8 and OSU 11).  Here UC is 9 and OSU is 10:

^ How is Iowa ranked lower than UC even though they have the same record and according to that ranking they had a slightly tougher schedule?

Yeah... the AP sued....

WRONG!

The BCS wanted more accuracy and consistency between the two human polls so the harris poll replaced the  AP.  The Harris poll consists of 100 former coaches, administrators and players, plus media members. It's a group that has more knowledge of college football.

CWMccann18

Don't put words in mouth........Where did i ever say none of those teams deserved to be where they are? I was looking at one guys vote in the AP.  You cincy fans are awful sensitive!

We need to not forget that Oregon State was ranked 23 or 24 in the Coaches Poll when we played them at their place a couple weeks ago.

So you don't like either team because I root for both of them? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Their is a difference between criticism and ignorance. Do you hate all of the other schools listed about because they haven't beaten ranked teams?

Wow, aren't we vain.  my comment has nothing to do with you personally, and instead to do with most of the UC fans that i've met down here.  Until last year (maybe the year before) they were OSU fans.  Now that UC has a team they're jumping on the bandwagon as fast as they can.

I believe in loyalty to a team.  I have one team that i root for (happens to be my alma mater) in college, one in the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA.  I don't believe in divided loyalties and i have strong feelings about people that didn't go to a school talking trash.

I didn't hate Ohio State nearly as much until i moved here and everyone i met told me how much they hated Michigan when they found out i lived there.  They're worse than Michigan fans down here.

^ Right everyone I know from Cincy was on tOSU nuts the past decade. Now that they beat one team that was ranked #23 in the coaches poll at the beginning of the year they are world beaters.  LOL!
