The Bearcats beat #21 South Florida tonight in Tampa in an impressive fashion.  Heisman candidate, Tony Pike, left early in the 3rd Quarter with a wrist injury and not only did the Bearcats close out the game...they added to the lead with backup QB Zach Collaros.

The defense once again got stronger as the game went on and made impressive adjustments at halftime.  The team didn't get shaken with the big crowd, amped up opponent, Pike's injury, or the close game early on.  They stuck with it, changed their game plan at halftime, and notched an impressive victory.

  • UC is now 8-0, still ranked #2 in both polls, and - first the first time ever - will host ESPN's college gameday this weekend:       Even if you aren't a college football fan,

  • I am booked and ready for the Cotton Bowl I hope the bearcats knock crimson tide off there feet. Our city needs this with the sad state of Bengals and Reds...

Wow - nice win with some adversity and silly mistakes.  Regardless, a 17 point win on the road against a juiced team ranked 21st is impressive.

Fun times. Elder/Colerain played on espn, Bengals are doing well and now the Bearcats. PS Erin Andrews is a nice looking woman.

What a game! The Bulls put up a good fight but just couldn't get it all rolling together in the second half. Nice win for the Bearcats and I loved hearing the commentators talking good about the Big East and Cincy.

The trash talking against OSU by the commentators was amusing.

Colerain must have been kicking himself when he pulled that unsportsman like penalty for taking his helmet off. Luckily they regrouped and scored. Good game by the Bearcats, good win

PS Erin Andrews is a nice looking woman.

Thats an understatement! did you see her naked?

If I only owned a computer besides my work computer...

Yeah, I was enjoying that.  They basically said the same thing the UC fans in here have been saying.. OSU doesn't want to play UC because they have nothing to gain from it and lots to lose.

This will hopefully bring up UC's SOS, depending on how some teams do this weekend raise a few points in the polls.  Looking forward to seeing them as a top 10 team in the BCS on Sunday.

OSU has played or scheduled to play the following teams out of conference: Texas, USC, Miami Fla, and Okla..........

OSU has played or scheduled to play the following teams out of conference: Texas, USC, Miami Fla, and Okla..........

True, but none of those teams are in the Big East. The Big East gets very little respect nationally and an early season loss to UC would be much more damaging to OSU than an early season loss to USC. Hell, USC beats OSU on the road then loses to Washington and OSU STILL has legitimate national championship hopes and is ranked #7 nationally. Would that be true if OSU lost at home to UC and then UC loses to Syracuse or Connecticut? I highly doubt it. The rankings are based largely on perceived strength and the Big East is perceived as a weak conference regardless if its true or not.

OSU doesn't play the big east because The Big East stinks.

The Big East stinks.

Way to rethink your comment and make it even better!

^OSU doesn't play Cincinnati because they aren't a marquee team (like USC, Texas, etc.) but they are just as good as many of the marquee teams.  A loss to USC doesn't hurt OSU's reputation.  A loss to a team that is perceived as a historically weak in-state opponent would have a huge effect.

It's not that they're scared, they just have nothing to gain, and a lot to lose.  It's pretty obvious, I would think...

^ Plus its not like those 2 teams haven't played before.  OSU always schedules in state opponents.  They played Toledo this year.  There;s been years in the past where MAC schools have been better than UC. Lets not forget UC and OSU have played 4 times in last 11 years with the total score being 121-52 in favor of the bucks.

Bearcat fans enjoy this season and don't worry about your national perception or how UC matches up against tOSU.  If you make it to a BCS game and win it everything will work itself out.  BTW great win last night!

Why is it that everytime UC wins a game, OSU is brought up?

This whole one-sided rivalry needs to go on somewhere else.  Can't you all atleast pick on Kentucky or something?

OSU wouldn't cut it in the Big East... they'd be middle-of-the-pack... they can coast through the overrated creampuff-laden Big Ten every year... with their only blights being the every-other-year loss to Penn State and the usual non-conference loss to USC or Texas

^ No kidding. I don't even think about OSU. You can't just drop them on the regular season schedule this year so it's a moot point. Then if UC losses to OSU in a game, then UC will be in a worse position than before hand.

ESPN brought it up, not us!  I found it amusing they were having the same argument amongst themselves that we have on here constantly.

Can we agree to not bring up the nameless one on this thread the rest of the year?  It is clear they have no interest in playing a regular series so it has no impact on the Bearcats.

That being said, this team could be at least top 2-3 in any conference this year so we should enjoy it.  It is relatively early in Kelly's career, and I constantly complain about gametime coaching, but I have never seen a team completely change it's offensive personality in the middle of a game like last night.  Pure genius.  Let's see what happens with Pike and how Collaros can do the next couple of games.

Addendum: that game also shows you what constant effort will give you -early in the game the defense could not touch B.J. Daniels, but they stuck with the plan.  By the end of the third quarter he had probably run 300 yards behind the line of scrimmage, and by the fourth he was gassed, and his will was broken (not to be overly dramatic).

WTF. Why don't teams find a couch that's not in a contract. Why do they always try to take something away from Cincy? Why don't they find someone from Washington state or something. Yes im talking about ND, Ohio state, etc etc.

I hate to rain on all of the Big East's fans parade with facts, but the Big 10 has won 67% of its games against the Big East over the past 10 years.  You guys can't be serious with this Big East talk, I mean it's hysterical.

I do hope that the Bearcats go undefeated and finish ranked as high as possible, regardless of what OSU does.  I just wish these new-found Bearcat fans didn't feel like they need to bag on OSU to make themselves feel better.

The Big East completely re-aligned a few years ago, and the Big 10 has perpetually been weakening over the recent past.  Which conference is better this year is debatable, but like most fans of the Big10 you default to the past and historical statistics to make a point.  I agree with that point, though, over the past 10 years, and as far back as you want to measure, the Big 10 has been better.  This year it could be different.

Also, I've felt the need to rag on Ohio St. my entire life.  It was an inherited trait from my father.

#5

Pitt #20 and West Virginia #22 - this should help with SOS if everyone, especially UC, keeps winning.

So basically, you're a hater and you find historical records pointless.  Gotcha.

And for the record, I've (and always will) support the Bearcats (I was born there for Christ sakes) and find the OSU-bashing from UC fans a bit...well...moronic.  Afterall, the two aren't even rivals!  We should be SUPPORTING each other!  Hell, if the SOUTH can support each other (aka the SEC, the nitwit conference), then the NORTH better start!

The hatred for OSU and their fans is an acquired taste. I in no way find history pointless, but it shouldn't have a place in decided which teams are good or bad during any given year.  Ohio St. has been a better team always, but this year I think is the first (at least in my lifetime) that UC is better.

Anyways, back on topic, UC is ranked 5th in the BCS, and "is clearly a contender for the BCS title game."  Despite being 6th in the USA Today and Harris Polls, the computers rank Cincy as #4, because they account for the stronger schedule, and don't factor in what teams are historical powerhouses as a measure of current skill.

I need tailgating advice.  I will be taking a large group to a game this year and need to know a good spot for 25 people to party.  What is the best lot for location/price?

Looking for some recommendations as well. Got six going to the UL game and we'll be taking the Streetcar, er Metro, from downtown to uptown. We won't have a vehicle to tailgate at and with the Calhoun bar scene long gone, I'm looking for a pre-game bar that has some good beers on tap.

Go Cats!

Looks like I might end up taking a car to tailgate... Any lot recommendations? Is the old Acropolis/Wendy's/Boston Market/Arby's "lot" used for football parking?

Cincy won't make the NC game.....A one loss Ala or Fla will make it ahead of them.  Texas and Boise st probably won't lose either, look at their remaining schedule.

Texas or Iowa are the only teams that need to lose a game for UC to make it.  A one loss SEC team will not stay ahead of UC in the polls, if UC wins out.  Especially considering Ala and Fla will likely play each other in the SEC championship, and won't have any time to recover in the polls.  UC's strength of schedule already has them ahead of Boise in the computer rankings, and it's only a matter of time before they pass them in the overall BCS.  And hell, Boise almost lost to Tulsa last week...  Texas and Iowa are the teams UC needs to lose in order to get to the Title game, otherwise they will both stay ahead in the BCS.  One of the SEC teams is automatically out of the race regardless.

1 chicken, 2 chickens, 3 chickens.........  ;)

I've been an Ohio State fan all of my life.  OSU and ND were the only college attraction in Cleveland.  Current wife and I broke up in high school after the 1971 Rose Bowl because she couldn't understand why I was in such a bad mood that night!  In those days, Big Ten teams could not have consecutive trips to the Rose Bowl, and after the "Super Soph" class beat OJ and USC in 1969 for the National Championship, they had to sit out the next year.  They were seniors and highly favored over the Stanford "INDIANS" and Jim Plunkett as seniors when they lost.

I became a Bearcat fan when I came to UC in 1971.  The thought at those times of UC ever competing against OSU was just a dream.  Certainly, one could be a fan of both teams, as UC was almost a minor league team.  Even if they had been good, they were an independent most of those years and had virtually no chance of ever going to a bowl game.

I was at the first UC-OSU game at Paul Brown rooting for the Bearcats.  The Bearcats almost beat them, and that would have obviously destroyed their National Championship season.  Would have been ok with me, as I am a bigger UC fan than OSU fan.  Finding myself rooting against them this year makes me laugh!

Go Bearcats!

I hate it when columnist refer to Columbus as Ohio's largest city.  While technically true, it is incredibly misleading.

With the Bengals in town could the Bearcats fill a 100k seater?

No. Even without the Bengals in town.  There has never been a big following, and the history with the alumni isn't there.  Maybe someday down the road after many years of success.

this has to continue for years before UC can be considered as one of the big boys.  Don't forget Louisville had a few good years and now they are back down to Metro Conference caliber.  We need Kelly to stay, and continue to bring success.

Once again the big one disappoints - no need to gloat and at this point the Bearcats have not won anything this year.  I know speculation is for the media pundits (and us the anonymous critics), but I hope the players are keeping their heads on straight.  Not to mention the other team, which still has quite a history that is nothing to mock, should be viewed as what can happen.  For example, they were obviously the best team in the country in '96 and '98 and flubbed it.  Of course they were very vulnerable in '02 and won it all.

Be cool 'Cats be cool.......

35,099 in attendance today for the largest ever Nippert crowd.  A great showing!  One gripe I have about Nippert though is not enough restrooms.  Missed 13 minutes of the 2nd!  Have they always used port-o-lets?  Maybe I need to give the booz up!

^ In my opinion, they oversold by a few thousand.  I've never seen in that crowded in the 5 years I've been going to every home game.  I think 35,099 is the attendance they settled at for fire-code reasons.  They have extremely lax student ticket scanning, and they let anyone in staring at halftime.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were 37,000 - 38,000 there.

Real test comes in the back half of the season versus hungry WVU and Pitt.  Go Cats I hope you slaughter them!

Kudos to the coed I saw tonight arguing with her man outside Stop-N-Go with the black B-cats jersey and the tight black leather motorcycle pants and black cowboy boots.  The whole ensemble cost well in excess of $1,000. She was onto something and we can only hope and pray that this look catches on.

^ We definetly need a photo of that!

Conference Rankings

There are two group ratings, the "central mean" and the

"simple average" (also known as the "arithmetic mean")

The "central mean" gives the most weight to the middle team(s)

in the group and progressively less weight to teams as you go

away from the middle in either direction, up or down.

This is my third year of season tickets and they have always had port-o-lets around the stadium.  It is not something new for this game.  That said, definately go in to TUC and up one or two levels to restrooms there. Also, the restroom at the NE corner of the stadium, and go down the stair by the endzone is usually not that crowded.

ACC is not better than the B10 or BE.  that ranking's an effing joke.
