Pitt drew over 55,000 for the W Va game. They average over 40,000 in home attendance. Compare to UC. It ain't pretty. Dantonio promoted the team much, much more than Minter. It's a tough sell.

I hate to break it to you, but the UC football job just isn't that appealing. It's got to be in the bottom third among schools in the BCS. Mark Dantonio probably brought it up from somewhere around Duke. You should be thankful the program had him, instead of shitting on him for taking one of his two dream jobs.

I'm sorry but if you want to play in the Big 10 and contend for a national championship you would choose OSU, MU, Minn, Wis, Iowa...all before MSU!!!  Its all about winning...you will see UC win a Big East Championship before you will see MSU win a Big 10 title (even without Danschmonio)!

All in all...."Don't pee on my leg, and tell me its raining!"

What is this MU of which you speak? And no, you wouldn't choose Minnesota over MSU. And Iowa and Wisconsin are only arguably better. Wisco hasn't been that good since the late 90s. But still, all those jobs are better than the UC position.

There's a reason it used to be known as the Big Two + Eight (ok, nine). After U-M and OSU, there's a drop off in caliber. But it's still the Big 10, and for a guy like Dantonio I bet that's a pretty big deal. My guess is he realized Tressel isn't going anywhere and he didn't have a chance at OSU, so he took MSU.

If UC wins a Big East championship, I'll gladly eat my words. I'd take MSU in that bet any day, even considering they have U-M and OSU to contend with.

I remember catching a Sunday Night game i think, where it appeared the only people in attendance was the marching  band.

You talking about the Sunday night UC/USF Game?

^yeah, i checked the schedule and that's the one. It just looked really bad on tv.

Yeah, I'm in UC's marching band....and we pretty much were the only people there. It was so f---ing cold, even in our wool uniforms. We left AS SOON as the game was over.

Well, I am one of the Drum Majors with the band...

Yeah, I'm in UC's marching band...

Did you say that you were in the band??

I thought Dantonio was taking the UC Band with him too...hope you enjoy Michigan, Neville!

I'm pissed that Dantonio is leaving because he held so much promise for the Bearcats. I'm glad he's gone, though, because now maybe we can get someone who WANTS to be in Cincinnati.

Oh, and, by the way...I'm in the band.

"Jimbo Fisher" - that's an awesome name...

^ no

^ ^^ It works well here in Louisiana.

Looks like UC has offerred the job to Central Michigan's Brian Kelly.

Great the Bearcats got the m-effin International Bowl.  We don't get to stay close (Motor City Bowl)...nor do we get to play another school from a major conference (Texas Bowl).

We always get thrown in games we damn MAC schools....we're from the Big East, can we get some respect please??

^ The Big East is not a real Football Conference.

You got your respect....right behind Michigan.  :-P

I'm sure they look at fan support when they offer bowls to teams.

Nonetheless, they would have been offered a better bowl if they finished higher in the conference, but South Florida beating West Virginia flubbed that all up.

I heard the news conference this afternoon on my way home from an exam.  I am truly excited about our new coach.  He wants to win and I think the best idea he has is going after OSU as far as recruiting.  If you think about it, Ohio needs a strong #2 team, Michigan, Florida, California all have this. Hopefully by the time I graduate (2010), we will have a championship football and basketball team.

Oh but I guess the ACC is better!?!?!?  I am not saying that the Big East is a Big Ten or Big 12 or even SEC....but damn its no MAC!!  Michigan sure did get screwed...OSU is going to beat the living crap out of Florida!

Let the healing begin...

Kelly to coach bowl game

BY BILL KOCH | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

December 5, 2006

CINCINNATI - Brian Kelly, the University of Cincinnati’s new head football coach, will preside over his new team for the first time on Jan. 6 when he coaches the Bearcats against Western Michigan in the International Bowl in Toronto.

Kelly will coach the team along with several assistants from his new staff, UC associate athletic director Mike Waddell confirmed today.

The UC players are scheduled to begin preparations for the game on Dec. 18.

Kelly said Monday that he hoped to have his coaching staff hired within seven to 10 days. Some of those coaches will come from his staff at Central Michigan, which is playing in the Motor City Bowl on Dec. 26.

“I’ve got to be careful that we take care of Central Michigan, too,” Kelly said. “I want those kids to win that bowl game so I don’t want to short staff them on their end.”

Um yes, the ACC is better.  What's the (collective) road record of Big East teams compared to the ACC (non division 1-A schools, for either side, don't count)?

Come on, The Big East, as a football conference, is still growing.  When someone in your conference can defeat another team of note (and no, Louisville put the smackdown on a Boise-bound Miami team doesn't count as a significant victory this year), then we'll put you in consideration.

Big East records against other BCS conference teams:

Louisville:  2-0 (ACC, Big XII)

West Virginia:  2-0 (ACC, SEC)

Rutgers:  2-0 (ACC, Big Ten)

South Florida:  1-1 (Big XII, ACC)

Cincinnati:  0-2 (Big Ten, ACC)

Big East earned 5 Bowl Games: opponents in parenthesis

Orange Bowl (Wake Forest), Gator Bowl (Georgia Tech), Texas Bowl (Kansas State), Papajohns.com Bowl (East Carolina), International Bowl (Western Michigan)

The Overall Record: Here’s what we find when we look at the overall record of conference games, OOC games, and bowl games with each conference ranked by their win/loss record.

Conference W/L PF/Gm PA/Gm MOV

Big-12        0.572 29.1 24.8 4.3

SEC           0.566 26   22     4

Big East     0.562 27.3 23.7 3.6

Pac-10       0.561 28.9 25.7 3.2

ACC           0.554 26.2 23.3 2.9

Big-10         0.553 27.5 24.3 3.2

This table does not take into account SOS, but it is what it is.

THE BIG EAST IS NO SCHLUFF!!!!

only to nitpick on one team, in this case, Rutgers:

When you beat north carolina and illinois from the "big conferences", you might as well be beating the retarded red-headed step child in the conference. You might as well be proud about calling star jones fat.

While there are more traditional powers in the 5 other BCS conferences, I would not say the BE was weak this year in any way.  They did have 3 of the top 16 teams in the final BCS ratings.  Also, this is the most recent conference ranking, which is usually determined by the average strength of each team:

This is VERY cool, I was actually hoping that he might be the head coach, but now that everything has fallen out...I think that it might be best that he is on the coaching staff as an assistant!  Not to mention, I think that he might be able to lock up most of the local talent for UC.

Coombs leaves for UC

December 17, 2006

Colerain coach Kerry Coombs, who secured one state title and four semifinal appearances for the Cardinals, is leaving to become defensive backs coach for the University of Cincinnati.  The move was announced Sunday night. New UC coach Brian Kelly said Coombs brings "a wealth of knowledge and experience to our staff."

“We feel very fortunate to have Kerry Coombs joining the University of Cincinnati football program,” Kelly said in a statement. “Kerry has a strong presence in Southwest Ohio and throughout the state. We also have a shared philosophy regarding player development.”

CONGRATS UC!!!!  INTERNATIONAL BOWL CHAMPS!!!  And here is a conference by conference breakdown of this years bowl games thus far.  I know many around the nation...and on this forum say the Big East is a joke and cannot compeat with the 'big boys' well lets see the nearly final results:

C-USA [5]             EC,Hou,Rice,SMiss,Tul                 0-4     .000

^congrats on beating:

an unranked MAC team

An unranked Conference USA team

An unranked Big 12 Team

an unranked ACC team

A ranked ACC (okay, that was a real win)

^I was about to say...

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

^congrats on beating:

an unranked MAC team

An unranked Conference USA team

An unranked Big 12 Team

an unranked ACC team

Yeah...maybe the bowl selection powers at be should offer some better competition (more of a challenge) in future years.  The teams from the Big East did not get to choose their opponents...neither did the Big 10 who is looking like crap in their bowl games.  Maybe they should reconsider giving all the big games to Big 10 teams...just a thought.

I would also like to remind you that having 3 teams finish in the Top 15 in the final rankings is pretty good...especially for what they consider the weak conference.

2007 UC football schedule

Aug. 30 or Sept. 1 - S.E. Missouri State (4-7)

Sept. 6 - Oregon State (21) (10-4)

Sept. 15 - at Miami (2-10)

Sept. 22 - Marshall (5-7)

Sept. 29 - at San Diego State (2-9)

Oct. 6 - at Rutgers (10) (11-2)

Oct. 13 - Louisville (6) (12-1)

Oct. 20 - at Pittsburgh (6-6)

Nov. 3 - at USF (9-4)

Nov. 10 - Connecticut (4-8)

Nov. 17 - West Virginia (12) (11-2)

Nov. 24 - at Syracuse (4-8)

I think that this is a very good schedule for us... not too tough but definetely not easy. Oregon State was a good choice for a non-conerence game. After all they were the only one’s to beat USC. Other than that, pretty easy pre-conference schedule. The BEAST should be pretty good this year...my guess in final rankings

1.) Louisville (top ten BCS)

2.) Rutgers (top ten BCS)

3.) Southn Florida ( top 25)

4.) west virginia ( top 25)

5. )Cincinnati (top 25 some part of the season , may not end there though... i'm biased i know)

6.) Pitt

7. syracuse

8. UConn

my guesses.... don't b#*tch at me

That Oregon State game will be an intriguing match-up.  We rarely see a PAC 10 team in the region so there should be some interest - if UC wants to get over the hump this is the kind of game they need to sell out.  I wonder if Chad and TJ will show up for this one (provided they have a home game).

UC-Oklahoma done deal

BY BILL KOCH | August 7, 2007

The University of Cincinnati and Oklahoma have signed a contract to play each other in a home-and-home football series, beginning in 2008 when the Bearcats will travel to Norman to face the Sooners on Sept. 6.  Oklahoma, which plays in the Big 12 Conference, will return the game on Sept. 25, 2010 at Paul Brown Stadium.

Good choice.

Just thought I'd get everyone ready for the 2007 University of Cincinnati Football season by taking a look back at last year's ending.

can't wait until thursday... i'm painting up... GO BEARCATS!!

I was at the game, my first UC football game actually.  This is my first year of UC Season Tickets.  Until now I had no idea what a UCAT is/was but I do now with my $50 "donation" to them for scholarships that is built into my ticket price.

Anyway, it said there was 20,000 people which seemed like a lot and more than was there but I really did think the area around the stadium, on the concourses, etc. was festive and seemed crowded.  Tangeman was open during halftime so I got to go in and see it which I hadn' been in before.  And I went in the Lindner Center too.  There is a pretty cool multi-story trophy case hanging from the wall. I'll bring my camera next time.

So who is going to be at the game on thursday? A win here could bring us further into the national spotlight.... GO CATS!!!

If you can't come, at least watch. (I'll be in the front row, painted in red and black)

ESPN (The big one... not deportes ) 7:30pm

^ I'll be there again.  Bringing the camera if I remember.  Should be a good test and maybe a better gage of the rest of the season than Southeast Missouri State.

One might expect to see Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh there...since they are Oregon State alums.  I know that Chad is a big Bearcat supporter as well.

I won't be able to make it since I'm still in Atlanta, but I'll be watching for sure.

Damn ... I didn't know this was on ESPN?!? Wow ...

. . . in HD too, which is addicting.

The D is looking good!  Something that is refreshing to see after watching the Bengals much of the time.

It's about time college football starts to take a new look at UC football.

They are killing Oregon St. as of this post 4th quarter, cats up 31

Wow.  That was awesome.

Just got back from the game.  Nice to see lots of students there even with school out of session for most.

What a great game. Attendance: 25,020. That's pretty damn good.

ucplanner-didn't see you in the stands.
